I arrived for my appointment having taken the time to properly wash, condition, and blow-dry my hair in advance. As a Black woman with long, natural hair, this is not a small task--it is a deliberate and thoughtful effort, often done to ensure the stylist can focus on the intended service. I used a product (Color Wow Dream Coat) which, unbeknownst to me, left a slight residue on my hair. Instead of approaching this with professionalism or even basic courtesy, Raphael immediately began making degrading remarks. He repeatedly told me my hair was "dirty" and even went so far as to call it "filthy." I calmly explained that my hair had just been washed and that the texture he was feeling was likely due to the product I used. Rather than offering a solution--such as simply re-washing my hair--he chose to escalate. What followed was deeply inappropriate and, frankly, unacceptable. As I became visibly emotional, I was accused of "acting too American" and was repeatedly called a liar. Being spoken to this way, in a room where I was the only Black woman present, felt incredibly isolating and targeted. The comments about my hair, my honesty, and even my demeanor carried an undertone that was impossible to ignore. At one point, Raphael stopped mid-service, leaving my hair partially cut, and told me to leave--refusing to continue. I was left sitting there, embarrassed and exposed, trying to hold myself together after being spoken to in such a demeaning way. Eventually, the owner stepped in and completed my haircut. While I appreciate that he attempted to salvage the situation, the emotional damage had already been done. Despite everything, I still left paying $255 for what can only be described as one of the most uncomfortable and degrading service experiences I have ever had. No client--regardless of background--should ever be made to feel ashamed of their hair, their identity, or their presence in a space that is supposed to provide care and service. As a Black woman, hair is deeply personal. To have that used as a point of humiliation, in a public setting, was profoundly upsetting. I am sharing this not out of anger, but out of a sincere hope that no one else is made to feel the way I did that day.

The problem is that when you check out after your service, they charge you the full amount again, as if no deposit was ever paid, seemingly hoping you've forgotten about it. Then, on top of that, you're expected to leave a tip. This happened to me multiple times. At first, I thought I was just forgetting because I hadn't kept track of my deposits. But on my last visit, I took a screenshot of my deposit confirmation before my appointment. When it was time to pay, the cashier insisted I pay the full balance with my card. I only brought enough cash to cover what I knew was the remaining balance plus my tip. When I showed them my deposit receipt, they suddenly changed their tune. Their reaction made it seem like they knew exactly what had happened. Please keep track of your deposits if you choose to visit this salon. Screenshot your confirmation and verify that your deposit is deducted from your final bill before paying. I can't say whether this has happened to anyone else, but based on my own experience, I believe I was overcharged multiple times. Had this not happened, I would have remained a loyal customer. Instead, I feel like I lost hundreds of dollars that I worked hard to earn.

I'm an actress. The one thing I really care about is my hair! If you hair looks good - you look good. When I first moved to L.A. I went to Melrose Avenue in Beverly Hills -only best for my hair. How cool I was getting my hair done with the likes of Meg Ryan in the meantime I'd take my children to Sri. I started to notice how really GREAT she is at what she does and remember I'm comparing her to Hollywood's elite salons. After my third child, I felt guilty not only about PAYING so much but also about TIME spent at the swanky salon where four different stylists worked on you, Getting my hair done was an all day affair!! There were so many people shuttling me from chair to chair, one to make you an herbal tea, the main stylist who'd have to "discuss" your style every time even if there was no change, another one who'd mix color , the one who'd shampoo, on & on getting my hair done was becoming extremely expensive and time consuming. Sri uses the same high quality color and products as the swanky salon, her skill and knowledge is definitely equal to theirs, she does my kids and she is half the swanky salons price. I first came to Sri a few months ago for a haircut. I have very curly and at times unruly hair and she gave me the perfect cut! Exactly what I asked for. She is professional, kind and smart and the salon is very clean and organized. But I told him I really didn't care because I hate how it looks if it's not dried all the way because it very quickly becomes frizzy. I left the salon looking worse than I do when I go to sleep with my hair wet and wake up with it not brushed. I cried in my car for an hour. It was just so disappointing and not worth the price at all. I could've gotten a better cut at fantastic Sam's. I am also heartbroken because I've been growing my hair out for a long time and much more was cut off than what I asked for. And I wouldn't have minded as much if it was shaped well, but now I will most likely have to go even shorter to fix what has already been done to it.

I took my elementary school age daughter here today for a cut and they did a fantastic job. She's not one to sit still but they were cool with her using a fidget toy while they cut her hair. They explained the process and most important they listened to her and what she wanted. Her hair looks great (or Slay as she says) The vibe here is rad as well. They have magazines which is cool to see in this day and age. The staff is awesome and the salon dog is super sweet. Alba Jr. is the absolute best with my tricky multi-texture hair (which is straight in the front and…read morecurly/wavy in the back, and difficult to cut in a way that blends the textures). She has rescued me from a bad haircut and consistently does a great job. It's also very affordable considering the high level of skill and time they take. I love supporting a longstanding local family business and I'll be back for my next haircut for sure!
