A few months ago I was shopping around for a personal trainer to help me out with some sport-specific goals (I'm a dragon boat paddler). I brought those goals to Craig, the owner at Studio One, who set me up with a weekly session with Josh, one of the trainers there.
I've been paddling for 15 years, and this is the strongest off-season I've ever had. I know I owe a lot of that to Josh's help. Notably, I find that I am able to give feedback, or to let him know if I'm plateauing/injured/etc., and he is very good at making adjustments in the workouts. He also takes my dragon boat off-season training plan into account, which is not something that a lot of other studios were willing to do.
I find the rates to be reasonable, and the Beechwood location is convenient to where I live, so no complaints there. Sometimes I have to shift around my appointment time to accommodate my work schedule, and Josh is always amenable to that.
This is a boutique studio, which I prefer. It means there aren't any strangers or meatheads watching you work out. There's not really much cardio equipment, but I would hate to go there and just do cardio (srsly, I can do that on my own).
Most importantly, everyone at Studio One is super nice. I never feel judged when I'm there, and when I'm not feeling very strong they're very motivating.
As with anything related to fitness you're only going to get out as much as you put in, and I feel like Studio One and Josh really help to make sure that I've got all the tools I need to do that for myself. read more
