I used to LOVE this theater when I was a teenager: the food was also super amazing and when they came out with the new reclining seats, I was ecstatic. I have recently been back as an adult and the experience is not quite as I remember. The seating is still nice but basically matches the seating of most modern theaters. The room was packed with loud kids and teenagers who either ran around with no care or were glued to their phone at full volume. Both of these did not make for a good viewing experience. The food, which was not cheap by any means, was also extremely bland and slightly cold. Not to mention, the wait staff is on the younger side and didn't seem to care about customer service whatsoever. I would for sure recommend this place for teens and kids as it still seems like a hotspot for that age group. As far as anyone older, perhaps not. read more

I see from my review that it had been 14 years since we last saw a movie at this theater. We ended up here after our first choice did not have seats together for the movie we wanted to see. We bought tickets online, which showed the theater was nearly sold out. But in reality, the theater was not full. So I am not quite sure what was going on. The theater has not changed and has not been updated since our 2011 visit. The theater is showing its age. The seats we had were broken. They were stuck in one position and could only be changed with considerable physical force. I had to get up and kick the seat many times to get it to a normal upright position. The seats were not comfortable. The theater we were in (#1) had a screen that was too small for the size. The theater was quite large and we were towards the back, Row G, and screen seemed barely adequate. Maybe it would have been better if we had been closer. The previews appeared not to be in HD although the picture quality for the main show was fine. Aside from our broken chairs, another complaint is the fact that servers were walking in front of us nearly the entire show. You think that ordering food and drink as you watch a movie is a good idea, but it is not. It became really annoying to constantly have servers walk in front of us, which was distracting especially during key moments of the movie. We did not order any food but the people to the right and left of us did, so we had people walking in front of us the entire show. An afternoon with the granddaughter seeing Moana 2. The theater was clean and the staff were polite but it took a long time to get our popcorn and cheese sticks. They kept trying to give us the wrong order and someone else's tab. The worst part was that there were several families with toddlers who were not encouraged in any way to remove their screaming, crying kids from the theater. When you pay $40+ to take your grandchild to the movie you'd like to be able to hear more than half of it. You may think this is an issue of rude, inconsiderate parents, and it is, but the theater has a policy regarding disruptive children and they need to enforce it! read more

This was my first time at this SMG location and it was just average. I went to see the New Captain America on a Tuesday night and tickets were only $6- which is a steal with prices being so high nowadays. I did, however, spend $30 on food and drinks. To drink I got the Pain Chiller and it was delicious- highly recommend. To eat, I went with the buffalo chicken tenders. On the menu, it specifically said that items marked 'entree only' do not come with a side. This item did not have that so I asked my server about it and even read the menu back to her and she told me that it doesn't matter, all sides are $3. Really annoying, especially when the menu says something different. Overall, the food and the menu were fine. The seats infront of me were very dirty and mine was actually broken. The foot part of the recliner was missing the middle section which made putting my legs up an uneven experience. read more

No one in theater so enjoyed our movie. Wish I could say the same for the food. Craving the Taco Salad but was told no longer offered. So decided to try something new we shared the avocado flatbread and buffalo chips. Both items are cold food items. Avocado pizza was mashed avocado on top of a thick cold premade flatbread (yuck) would have been better if flatbread was cooked so some crispy. Instead a thick cold bread with some arugula smashed avocado and a light drizzle of vinegar and cherry tomatoes, we added chicken for some protein it also was tasteless flavorless chicken cubes. Not one good bite. Buffalo chicken on the potato chips with a blue cheese drizzle and bacon crumbs. Once again chicken cold chips cold and everything was just mushy. Chicken flavor had a nice bite but mushy and very dry. Disappointing since with added 18% at the beginning of order no one comes back to see if they can help if any problems. read more

The American movie theatre is a dying art and SMG spring valley is no exception. We were told to wait in the lobby for our movie. After 15-20 minutes, we were directed to the theatre. No previews, straight into the movie. Folks were rowdy, drinking unauthorized alcohol and were taking videos and photos during the movie. It took about 45 minutes into our movie for the theatre to quiet down and watch the movie. The food was outrageously overpriced. One box of chocolate was listed as some quirky name on the menu for $9. The experience is a drag, makes you wish you waited for the film to come to streaming, and pushes you away from returning to any theatre for a long time. I would highly not recommend Studio Movie Grill, especially this location. It is a scam. read more

I love movies. After all, I just got back from an out-of-state film festival where I watched eight movies over three days. Some of my happiest childhood memories were sitting in Saturday matinees watching the latest horror or monster flick, enjoying some red string licorice, and a fountain Coke. Yep, I'm old school. But going to a theatre to watch the big screen has often been a dramatic experience for me. Most of my experiences in attending movies during my life has been in theatres with the traditional, closely-packed seats. And I grew up in an area where the most popular evening activity on a weekend for both young and old alike was catching a first-run movie...which meant most movies had long ticket lines and packed seating. This, in turn, meant movie-time loud talkers, seat-kickers, exposure to sudden flatulence emissions, and obnoxious drunks which could turn a movie experience into a literal Hell on earth which no man or woman should be forced to endure. The only thing comparable today is the three-hour flight in coach from Dallas to Los Angeles where the seat recline is broken and being surrounded by squealing two-year-olds. A few decades ago, I almost stopped attending flicks to avoid the torture that seemed to follow me whenever I attempted to see the newest James Bond adventure. In recent years, many theatres finally got smart to coax people like me back to the big screen by installing well-spaced reclining seats and providing in-chair service where one could enjoy a burger, washed-down by a favorite martini or two. Suddenly, for these venues, my desire to see movies suddenly rebounded. And so, any theatre that gives me a vastly improved experience over what I had to endure for decades is going to get my thumbs up. Studio Movie Grill offers wide, lounge-type seats, spaced out to prevent chair kickers, along with food service. While there might be better theatres that offer this, old-school folks like myself are easily impressed. And during our latest venture to Movie Studio Grill, the seating was comfortable, service was good and the food was acceptable. And no one could kick my seat. The only thing that was missing was the Martini. But that wasn't Studio Movie Grill's fault. read more

Stated last call was a 10:45 sever left to put the customers in front of us order in. I had my service button pushed for them to come back . But I ordered just a water to start and it's been 30 mins since anyone has brought back a water, or come to check on my seat light that has been on for the past 30 mins. I keep seeing servers walk in to service the other 5 people who are in the theatre (it's the middle of the day, so not many people are here.) But the fact that it's taking over 30+ mins to get a simple glass of water is most definitely discouraging me from ordering any food or returning here to view a movie again. read more

This is a nice theater with very helpful staff. Sadly, the food tastes like it's from hardcore frozen. Was cold when served but also has that aftertaste. For the price they're charging, rather bring in my own food than eat this. Also, there was a woman coughing loudly the entire movie. Right next to their serving table. They should have politely refunded her and asked her to leave. Why should the rest of us have to get sick and be disturbed? I shouldn't have to beg them to do their job. I was kinda nervous to go here because of the bad reviews I read but my experience here was fine. Getting your ticket is easy if you paid online. They are pretty pricy. The theater I was in was fairly small. The seats are comfy and they recline, but I think the Cinemark recliners are a little nicer. They have a wide variety of food options. Our server was kind and helpful and service was prompt. This is not the place to go if you want to focus on the movie, though. People were talking and laughing throughout. It's a good place for a casual movie going experience or if you'd like to hear others' commentary, but if you're in the mood to really focus in on the movie, try a different theater. read more

They work really hard at screwing up. Seriously you can't be that lucky. It takes skill, training, searching high and low sifting through resumes hundreds or even thousands of them to find people who care as little about quality and service as the fine folks at this SMG location. The owners can't be that dense or else they just don't care. How have they not fired the lot of them and started over??? I find that suspect as I know some of the leadership and they are incredible, but this location is so far below sub-par that it baffles me and really makes me question the commitment of leadership. As with many many many of our prior trips to SMG, the food was atrocious. My daughter ordered a bun-less bacon cheeseburger with a side of mayonnaise and a side of honey mustard as she is gluten free I ordered coconut chicken tenders. Both were a joke... When we ordered they alerted us that they weren't doing refills on drinks and asked if that was okay. I asked if I had a choice and he was confused. It's not really okay given the price, but we don't get a vote so we move on. Also, before our food or drinks ever arrived, he came back and informed us it was last call and wanted to know if we wanted to order anything else... It had been over 30 min since we initially ordered and in my mind I was like, how about my food? I just said no thanks. Her burger arrived with my "chicken tenders" after a 20+ min wait and had the bun. She told them when it arrived and the waiter said he would get it fixed. I assumed they would just take it off and give it right back, no harm no foul, but you know what momma says about assuming... 20 MIN later they returned, after I had completely finished eating my meal, and when it arrived, wait for it..., it STILL had the bun. However the waiter caught it a foot before it got to us and sent it back. It was so close. Another 20 minutes and it arrived... no cheese, no mayonnaise or honey mustard and so incredibly well done and burnt that it could have been used in the NHL. My tenders were anemic. They didn't look like any I've had there in the past, as I typically order the coconut tenders, as they were literally the size of the fish sticks we got as kids from the frozen food isle. It was a joke, but they weren't kidding. I kid you not, the fries were bigger. I told the waiter I was less than impressed and he said he would tell the manager to drop by. An hour later, the manager never arrived. All in all. I paid $12 for crappy hockey puck of a bacon cheeseburger that took an hour to arrive and was missing the cheese, $14 for a few tenders the size of fish sticks, $2 for two 12 oz cups of tap water and $0.50 for honey mustard we never got, plus tax and tip. The manager never cared to stop by and we had already complained enough that we threw up our hands in defeat and just paid the full price, tax, tip and left. NEVER AGAIN. That place sucks and isn't worth my time or money. I would rather drive further or just stay home than endure this location. Went to watch a movie and it was about 80 degrees in the theater. I go to the movies for relaxation so I'm not ok with sweating and being uncomfortable the whole time. I get it though because most places can't keep up with Texas heat. I left before the movie even started to get a refund. The manager JR was incredibly rude. No apology or anything and was pretty mad about giving a refund. I noticed I was refunded $5 less than what I paid. I was rudely told that's the online booking fee and they don't refund that. I understand the booking fee, but it's not my fault the theater wasn't up to standards. Such awful service and waste of time and money. read more

Came here with a Groupon however read the fine print - they can't be used on certain movies or after 5pm Friday - Sunday (you know when most folks are trying to go to the movies) however you can purchase and use them on the same day. And if you book your tickets online you have to pay an extra fee to do so. With that said we were near this location and decided to catch a show. When you go in they are quick to give you menu as they generate from food & drink sales. I've also been told by someone that you are required to get something from the menu, however I've never had that enforced on me. We picked our seats and then had a really tall couple sit in front of us. Went out and had to stand in a long line to exchanged for other seats. The service was kinda slow. The food was decent. I'm not crazy about the popcorn concept as they give you a bowl and a refill which doesn't equate to the tub at other theaters. read more

My fries were molded but me being angry and in the heat of the moment since I ate one of them had to run to the restroom rushing rudely past people to avoid vomiting on them; of course I gave the plate back I was served literal molded fries and the blonde haired guy whose name I didn't care to get since he didn't seem to care about his customers (the manager) got angry at me because I didn't want to pay for it & requested that he'd go check my food (he never did I actually finished in the restroom then had to request his services all over again) Truly I tried to ignore the real life ratings I get on this specific location but I've witnessed this monstrosity myself...Everybody whose anybody I 100% DO NOT RECOMMEND COMING TO THIS DUMPSTER EVER IVE NEVER BEEN THIS DISRESPECTED ANYWHERE. I simply do not understand the downward spiral of the last three studio movie grills that I've visited. Although this location is clean and the seating is good, like other locations, the food is terrible and the drinks are watered down. I'm a foodie, so if you say your theater menu offers fare other than popcorn, it should be good and fresh. Your menu selections look great on paper, but taste like a microwave meal. (Not trying to be rude, just being honest.) I'm a light weight when it comes to drinking, so if I order a Long Island Tea and it tastes exactly like tea and has no effect on me, it's probably just tea. Good grief! Food and drinks at SMG's used to at least be on par with most local or chain diners. I used to enjoy the full movie and dining experience at SMG, but those days are past. I'm not sure what is going on, but I can get inexpensive movie tickets at other theaters. I suppose when I want a movie & dining experience, I'll go elsewhere. Good: helpful service guy at front desk helping us to make sure that we were seated in upholstered seats (which do not recline), versus the office chair =from Hell that destroy your butt and back. We showed up three hours before the movie so that we could sit in the bar and drink. My wife and I were the only ones in the bar but the bartender would only help us every 30 minutes or so. He was too busy talking to one of the waitresses to help us. Then, when I got my bill I found out they have an automatic gratuity of 15%. That would be fine if the service was even remotely worth it, it was not. There are a lot of homeless people in the parking lot, and I will never bring my wife to this place ever again! read more

The soft pretzel bites were kind of warm but the queso was definitely room temperature. We were charged extra to add the jalapeno cilantro lime ranch also, but lemme tell you that was a waste of money. The only flavors present were cilantro and ranch. The nutella beignets were pretty yummy though and surprisingly easy to eat (think donut hot pockets filled with nutella) despite the unavoidable powdered sugar. Thank goodness we booked actual seats - luckily I've somehow always booked a real theater seat even though I blindly pick which row to sit in each time.
