My financee and I were looking a professional photographer to take our engagement photos, and randomly found Studio Luxe online; and I'm sure glad we did. Not only it was more affordable vs other photographers that I've looked into, but Mr. Kim has worked in the film industry (Dream Works I believe) for 15+ years, so he's extremely knowledgeable in all these great locations to do a photo shoot. We first met up a few weeks before the session for about an hour to discuss the theme & direction of the shooting, which gave us a pretty clear expectation on what to expect and how to prepare. (he also provided guidance on what to wear, which was very helpful) Including the travel time, we spent 6~7 hours doing a photo shoot in 4 different locations. Given the fact that we've never done anything like this, it was super helpful that Mr. Kim gave us some pretty good directions and guidance on how to pose right. I'm not really sure what other people who gave bad reviews about StudioLuxe is talking about, but my wife and I had a really good experience with the photographer as well as their staffs. Although our first casual photo shoot didn't go as well, but it was because the weather was really bad and really windy. It wasn't StudioLuxe's fault. Because photos from the first photo shoot didn't turn out well, they gave us an additional session. It actually turned out really well. Also, our second photo shoot with formal wear turned out even better! The photographer Richard is very helpful and very different in the way he takes his pictures... He really knows how to capture the moment. He also gives very good initial direction on how to pose and what to avoid when taking photos. He gave very good tips... not just "look here" and "look there"... kind of direction, but very detailed. Although our wedding photo shoot was somewhat physically draining, Richard made it a very good experience. Those 6to8 hour outdoor sessions can be physically draining but because of Richard's expertise and precise directions things went by quickly and smoothly. It's been awhile since I got married but I wanted to leave few comments about this studio. Most Korean photographers I know are pretty grumpy and sometimes even down right rude. However, photographers from StudioLuxe (especially Mr. Kim) were very patient, accommodating, and comfortable to work with. Not once did he get upset nor show that he was. This made me feel comfortable which is very important when taking pictures, at least for me cause my mood shows on my face easily. Besides the nice photographer, I love their work as well. I had two engagement sessions. One casual and one formal (this may seem odd to other cultures). Each session was one full day. He really went out of his way to capture all the looks I wanted. I loved all my engagement photos and wedding photos. I noticed he likes to focus on the brides face, specifically on eyes. This made me feel little uneasy at the time but it turned out really great! Studio Luxe came recommended to my then fiancée (now wife) for engagement photos. My wife and I are not particularly photogenic, so we weren't exactly sure whether Richard, the primary photographer, had enough magic up his sleeve to make us look good in our photos. Boy, were we wrong. When we saw the first proofs come back from the shoot, we were floored. They were stunning! Richard's eye for setting and composition is seriously impressive. For instance, he would have us pose somewhere that, in the moment, doesn't seem particularly picturesque. But through his lens, and with his sense of lighting and framing, the image that emerges is truly special. After seeing all of the engagement photos, we decided to book Studio Luxe for our wedding. We met with Richard and his partner, Hong, several times before the wedding to discuss timeline and shots, among other details, so we felt confident that everything would go smoothly the day of the event. Sure enough, the Studio Luxe team arrived early, and ready to snap some great photos. We shot in two locations and took all of the photos that we had requested, plus some other impromptu ones that cropped up along the way. Studio Luxe is serious steal when it comes to landing the most talent and best service for your dollar. This is not a review for photography services; it is only based on communication and contract issues. We were excited and pleased to see their good quality photos online and met with Richard and Hong. At the meeting, Richard seemed overly confident to the point of slightly cocky. We were willing to tolerate that behavior because of his quality and years of experience. However, upon receipt of the contract, we noticed that it was much more complicated than other photographers' contracts. In an attempt to continue working with Richard, we asked for a number of edits to the contract. At that point, Richard dismissed us as clients. From our perspective, we know we that were asking a lot of requirements and being slightly demanding. However, once you get your hands on the contract, you will understand why we were concerned. We had issues with several provisions that only catered to them and allowed them to take advantage of us (i.e. travel expenses, reimbursement, cancellations, and dispute resolution). In summary, during the meeting with Richard and Hong, they seemed very accommodating and flexible. Unfortunately, the contract and communication after that point was very rigid and unaccommodating. We were hoping they would reasonably understand our concerns and continue working with us, but instead they acted in their best interests. I would strongly recommend not signing such a one-sided contract. read more

I received my first beautiful touch up photo in the morning of 05/28/2016! How an efficient and hard working photographer! We didn't know what we were doing when we posted in front of the camera, but Richard asked us to act normally and catch all precious moment. I struggled a lot to choose my wedding photographer. I met with several photographers, but I chose Richard because they have pretty good pictures and package price is reasonable. Wedding is expensive and we looked for best quality within our budget. I was very impressive by Richard's pictures when I saw pictures of my friend's wedding on Facebook. Hong is very patient and nice person to work with. She answer all my concerns very fast. So far I have done one engagement shoot, but I am so so grateful for Studio Luxe! I could not have asked for a better, more thoughtful wedding photographer. They are well-priced (especially considering ALL their experience and the extra mile they go to make your shoot exactly how you want it). They gave us a clear idea of good things to wear, bring, and do for the shoot. They were communicative throughout the whole process. Mr. Kim spent around 2 to 3 hours total before the shoot having us look through photos to give him the idea of what kind of photos and styles we liked. He took notes and everything! He does not have any restrictions of what he will do--including using photoshop to make different backgrounds. I felt comfortable telling them what I liked and what I did not like. My fiance and I had an engagement/pre-wedding photo shoot and took Mr. Kim on to photograph us for 4 hours. He had us set the venue, and went to the LA Arboretum in Arcadia for 3 hours, and then to the Pasadena City hall for an hour. Mr. Kim had never been to the Arboretum but he made it work. We had only been there a few times ourselves, and didn't know where exactly we would like our photos taken, and Mr. Kim had the eye to point out several spots where we could be photographed. In short, even though he didn't know the venue at all, he photographed us and the results were incredible. After 3 hours at the Arboretum, Mr. Kim was more than agreeable to move to a second venue. While at the City hall, Mr. Kim made sure that we got artistic/amazing photographs from many different angles, and he would even lay down on the ground in order to get better angles of us and the architecture of the venue in the shot. Because of the time it took us to move venues, I was a bit worried that we wouldn't have much time at the second venue, but Mr. Kim had no issues going over-time from our previous agreement. We even had a special request for him to allow for us to be photographed with our dog and while he had never done that before, he was fine with it and made it all work. My fiance and I are very happy with the results of the shoot, and would definitely work with Mr. Kim again. He creates a very positive mood/atmosphere throughout the photo shoot, and helps to put the subjects of the photography at ease even when it feels somewhat awkward. read more

WOW. I am not the person to ever write a review. However, I just had to make an account and write this review because the photos were just so amazing! Let me start off by saying Richard made me feel more like a friend than a client so I was very comfortable from the start. The whole process was very smooth and was much more surprised at how easy it was. Everyone around me would tell me the engagement shoot can be fun but very tiring and stressful. However, it was like a friend tagging along and taking pictures here and there. The thing that blows my mind is at the time when he would have us pose in a area with certain poses I would just do them without thought. Never imagining that this pose with this background could come out to be these mind-blowing pictures!
