They were very kind and professional and helped keep the morning on schedule. Sana did a beautiful job with the makeup for my Bridesmaids. And Zoey did gorgeous natural glam for me and also helped my more senior mom with her makeup (my mom has alopecia and Zoey gave her beautiful false lashes and natural looking eyebrows). *Important note: I didn't do a trial* For my hair, I asked for more beachy curls, and specifically not a super polished curled look. Zoey did a gorgeous half pinned detail in the back, but the curls were far too tight and didn't look like the images I shared. She assured me she'd adjust to make the curls more relaxed but we ran out of time so I ended up having to do some fixing myself to get the look I wanted. I think she wasn't expecting my hair to take curls so well! Ultimately I was a bit disappointed that the hair wasn't totally what I wanted, but since I didn't do a trial and there was no time left for adjustments to be made, I made peace with it. Still a great experience, and I recommend doing a trial. Great value, lovely ladies and overall beautiful glam done by this team!

During the trial she was very detailed and took lots of time to make sure that I was happy with the final look, and on the wedding day the whole team that came (we had a large bridal party, and Mink will provide more assistants to the main artist to make sure that you finish on time) was fantastic. What was important for me too was that everyone had very good hygiene standards when doing our makeup, so nobody was worried about cold sores or breaking out from contaminated product. cutest little place tucked in between restaurants on the north shore. i've been wanting to try the…read moreplace out but didn't get around to it. finally, my previous stylist moved way too faraway so i took the plunge. made an appointment and got chiaki as my stylist. arrived a little earlier but they were alr very busy on a sat. morning at 11-something. i was greeted by everyone when i walked in the door. my appointment was for 12pm but chiaki's previous client went a little over time, which was fine. i was seated at the corner - very minimalistic but japanese chic at the same time - with an abundance of magazines to choose from. there is a selection of large selection of japanese magazines that i might nab for my next appointment. anywho, chiaki came over once her previous client was done. she apologized for the delay and she is the cutest thing ever. loved her toque and her makeup. i was seated and showed her what i was hoping to go for. she made suggestions - which was not to go so silver cuz i won't match my face/skin tone (i agree lol) - then we started. she also told me how long it would take, which i alr knew but i thought that was a nice gesture still. highlights, foil, toner, hair washing etc. i love the fact that she used a warm towel to support my neck when she was toning my hair. there was also another small towel to cover my eyes when i was at the washing station. i may have fell asleep cuz it was so relaxing - that and the head massage helped too. then once that was done, i got a neck and shoulder massage before starting my haircut! the cut was simple and to the point. chiaki also made a point to curl my hair to match my reference picture. all in all, what you would expect at a japanese hair salon. they give you goodies too - chocolate and hi-chews. plus their green tea was delish! someone beside me had the hot chocolate and tho i'm not a big fan, it smelled great. i think i found my go-to salon from now on :)

Despite no Yelp reviews at the time, the website had some awesome pictures so I decided to contact Karin to arrange for a time. I e-mailed on Saturday morning - Karin got back to me that same morning for an appointment on Monday afternoon. I put my payment in through Paypal and was all set to go. Easy peasy. Karin's makeup studio is on the 2nd floor of a commercial building shared with another business. I was a little confused about where to go but once I was there it was all good. Her studio overlooks Jonathan Rogers park so other than the scenic view, there is a fantastic amount of natural light that brightens up the studio. I had my eyelashes done at a place nearby (Kinjou Lashes) so I did not do anything related with lashes. Karin asked me several questions related to my skin type, the jewellery I would wear with my outfit, and was open to any specific requests that I had. To be quite honest, I'm a make-up newbie so I left all the creative decisions to Karin and she did great! My make up session went by really quickly (approx. 1 hour) and Karin was quite personable and chatty - it was like doing make-up with an old friend. She uses high quality products - unfortunately I can't name them all but it included MAC, yaby, YSL (the touche eclat) and her makeup brushes were high-quality & soft. She was also nice enough to put together a mini touch up kit for my lips that I could use later in the evening after dinner (she thinks ahead!). Overall - it was quite fun & Karin was great. I got plenty of compliments about my make-up that day so the investment was totally worth it - perhaps I will go back for some make-up classes in the future!
