I am so happy to have Studio D in our neighbourhood, especially for nails! The prices are great (especially if you can find a Groupon!) They don't do pedicures anymore, but if you want gel or acrylic, or just a nice manicure, the selection of colours and designs is extensive and Azel, the technician, is so caring and careful. She's super friendly and pays attention to detail. The only thing I didn't prefer is the loud R rated music they mostly play. I don't think I could sit and get a three hour colour done with it on. But some people prefer that atmosphere so it's up to you! All in all, I was super pleased with my experience. read more

Update: Jesse is amazing. Unlike other salons where they feel like they're trying to rush you out of there, Jesse takes her time to ensure every aspect of your nails are PERFECT. So $100 for like 5 hours isn't that much per hour although it's a long time to sit in a chair. She is a wizard at nails though. Damn. Just damn. Haircuts were fine however it's very inappropriate to play vulgar & profanity ridden music when there are children getting serviced. I get you are going for a certain vibe however it might be a good idea to adjust the music accordingly when children are there. They don't need to be hearing "F" & "N" bombs. If you want to continue to play this music then don't offer services for children. Also, most of the stylists there are very young. Apparently, one of them is only 17. So, expect the cuts to take a long time & maybe not as perfect as you were hoping. read more

This place is over priced for Seniors who just want a color and cut. There is only a 20% discount. My mom paid for a haircut and a trim (which looked she didn't even cut it). Stay away from this place. I highly recommend going some place else. Also, I will be reporting their business to Vancouver health as the sink isn't wiped down after each customer puts their head on it for a wash. When you get your haircut, you want to feel like you have nothing to worry about. Especially when you have photos of what you're going for. You also want a stylist who takes into consideration your hair type and face shape and makes suggestions of what might be better. Unfortunately I didn't get any of that. I went in new years eve hoping to get an asymmetrical cut to my chin length thick hair. A cut I've rocked before and loved. I don't love this cut. The short side is not at all feminine and it's not even cut properly. I was there almost 3hrs. And I had to wait 30 minutes for my appt to even start. Arslyn was super friendly and nice, but I didn't feel like she knew how to execute the cut. My roommate got a great cut from a different employee there, so I was very disappointed. My roommate even had to cut my hair more when we got home cuz it was cut so badly on the short side. I hate to have to leave this review, but I hate my hair, and I'm going to Mexico in 2 days and I have this awful hair cut to deal with. Le sigh. read more

Caroline is amazing!! Seriously tho! I went in the salon having a bad day and not feeling beautiful and she completely turned it around. She made my hair look amazing! I was stuck between 3 different hair color ideas and with that, she created something amazing. Beautiful color and cut. Honestly, the best hair style I have ever had with purple in my hair. I have been flooded with compliments on my hair and how well the colors suited me. She is creative and puts a lot of care in her work. I had a cut with the owner/stylist Donna yesterday. I waited almost 25 minutes for the cut even though I had made an appointment. No apologies for the delay forthcoming. Then the cut. I described very clearly what I had wanted but Donna had a different idea and just assumed I wanted it a lot shorter than I had explained. Basically she gave me a bob that is difficult to style (hard to blow dry due to the very short length) and couldn't be put up in a ponytail (I had said I wanted to be able to do that), and thicker in areas (which I had to ask her to trim back). Now I will have to wait a lot longer for it to grow out to a length that I am comfortable with. She tried to appease me by saying the shorter suits me because of my smaller stature, that the extra length she had cut - which she insisted was half an inch but really it was an inch on an already shorter cut - would grow out in a month, etc. She was apologetic at the end but the harm was done! The punctuality, environment and expertise were not up to par, unfortunately. It is important that stylists learn to really listen to what their clients want before cutting. I felt she had butchered my hair. I will definitely NOT return. read more

I came in for a manicure and was serviced immediately. It is located right beside Tim Horton's and there is ample street parking. The place is small, but clean and a bit overwhelming. They offer nails, hair, and tattoo services, so there was a lot of movement. It was also extremely loud in there....I like hip hop music, but it was so loud it gave me a headache. I chose my colour and everything went great. My nails were clean and looked fantastic and the nail tech was pleasant. The only negative was that it chipped the very next day. Not just a chip because I touched something, but several nails had chipping so the nice manicure lasted a whole 24 hours before being ruined. Most of my manicures last 2 weeks. I don't know why ... perhaps it was the brand of polish, but it felt like a waste. read more

Never coming back here ever again. I trusted this salon to be good because someone recommended it to me. I went here to get my hair and nails done. Both were overly priced but I wouldn't have mind it if it was done well. First the hair. Oh my god. I should have not gotten it done here as all that money was wasted. I wanted a grey balayage and she gave me purple ish (this faded away in a few days so whatever) BARELY THERE gray and MOSTLY bleached brown. If I wanted to damage my hair and make my hair blonde brown, I would've just bought drug store dye. I have short hair so I couldn't even just chop this all off. Next the nails. I was complimenting how nice they were looking. BECAUSE I THOUGHT SHE WASNT DONE. I wanted coffin shaped nails and some of them were like oval or something. And ALL of them still had weird uneven bumps which I thought she was gonna fix but didn't. I was so disappointed with all the results I didn't even bother saying anything as I was there for the ENTIRE DAY and was so tired that I just wanted to get home asap. read more

I got my gel nails done here on Friday with a groupon. I'm not sure if that matter really changes anything, but I don't think that the quality should decrease because of it. This is my first time here at studio D but I will probably not come back. The girl who did my nails wasn't the best when it came to the quality and diligence of her work. She wouldn't ask me to check if I liked the shape of my nails, actually, she didn't ask about what I wanted at all. I found that one of them was extremely lopsided and asked her to file it down a bit more because of the uneven lengths on either sides of my nails. She also didn't really take care of my cuticles very well. They are still very present and she may have cut me a little bit. Today I noticed that my gel manicure is actually chipping after only three days!!!! Definitely not happy about that because I don't get my nails done very often since it's a pricey luxury, but when I do, I expect them to last a little longer than what I can do at home. The layer of gel appears to be really thick, and some areas thicker than others. Maybe that's what I get for buying off of Groupon, next time I know. read more

Her service is amazing and the quality of the hair cuts were are and will always exceed expectations. Donna does not rush through her haircuts and puts considerable time in her work so you will always be satisfied with the end result. Her staff is great also. If Donna is fully booked, I will visit Carole for my cuts. Carole also does a masterful job with my hair. And I am fuzzy. Love this salon and staff! Highly recommended.
