my hair started falling apart almost immediately after Faye Smith artist was done with it.

I was attending a wedding and booked hair and make up with a senior artist from Faye Smith Agency. my make up was good (meaning did not get messy) but my hair started to all apart immediately. I posted a picture of my hair which was taken shortly after it was done. I had my hair done on a Tuesday (the night before my flight to Vancouver0 and on Friday night (3 nights after it was made up) I attended a wedding related event and it was still looking very good but the hair done by a senior artist from Faye Smith Agency fell apart immediately

I had an incredible experience with Juliana and the team from Faye Smith. As someone visiting from another country, it was daunting to try and find a hair and makeup team to come in to my hotel to prep me for a gala event. The team at Faye Smith was incredibly easy to work with via phone and email, and I was able to share a vision of my styling before meeting my artist. Juliana was incredibly thorough, and I appreciated the attention to detail as she got to know my skin texture and undertones. She also did my hair. Everyone stopped to tell me how gorgeous my hair was. With fine textured hair that generally falls flat, Juliana was able to work magic that kept my hair voluminous and curly all night long. I have nothing but amazing and kind things to say about Juliana and Faye Smith.

Yes! Faye did my hair too

I was NEVER happy with professional makeup applications, I always felt as though I looked alien to myself, overdone etc, until I went to see Faye Smith. Faye personally did my make up for a series of head shots and I liked the finished look so much that I had her itemize and order for me all of the make up she used on me and the tools she used to apply it. To this day, I pull up those head shots to use as a guide when doing my own make up. Faye brings out your beautiful - making the best of the canvas before her while respecting the client's own taste and style.

This hair style cost me $365 in the end! Would you want your hair to look like this on your wedding day? My makeup did look amazing.

Faye Smith Agency Review - NOT RECOMMENDED. For our November 2018 elopement to Vancouver, BC I wanted amazing hair and make-up for the big day. Our wedding planner referred Rose Quartz http://www.rosequartzbeauty.ca/ however I was unable to get up to Vancouver for a required trial session with Rose Quartz as we were traveling from out of the country, so was unable to use them....something I regret!!! Back to Faye Smith Agency...my grand total invoice was $624.75 (gratuity not included) Before the wedding, for about 6ish weeks I communicated via email with who I thought was Faye Smith, owner of the company, who would be doing my hair and makeup. I was asked for inspiration photos for hair and make-up and was told the look I wanted was doable. At some point, after signed the original contract I added hair extension rentals, which were added to the quote. A week before our wedding I was told a woman with a different name, let's call her Alice (fake name), would be doing my hair and make-up in our hotel room. Alice? Who was Alice? Could I talk with her before the wedding? Could I see her portfolio? I was told no due to privacy issues. So Alice could know my information as the customer, but all I could know about Alice was her first name. When I asked how Alice would know what I wanted as I had been emailing Faye, I was told all my pictures would be added to my file for Alice. So Alice was a lovely person who arrived on time. She had no clue what I wanted other than she was told I wanted a messy updo. So at 6am we had to start from scratch as far as how I wanted my hair and makeup to look as I had to be ready to go by 8am. Basically the many emails sent between Faye and myself were a colossal waste of time. In the end, my makeup looked good, but not exactly the smokey eye I was hoping for. I had to touch up my eyebrows a bit myself and one edge of my lashes wasn't adhered to my eyelid. My hair was not great. The top was flat against my head, which I specifically said I didn't want. Only three single clip hair extensions were used in my hair at a total cost of $225....just for the hair extensions. My hair style was more fitting for a young girl attending the prom instead of a middle aged bride. The style created did not represent the inspiration photographs I submitted. Honestly, I feel that the stylist Alice did a great job under the circumstances. It seemed she was thrown in at the last minute and was not provide with much information. However, this is not the service I was expecting for $624.75. The three hair extensions used were rentals that costs $75. They were added to my contract as an afterthought, so I wasn't aware they were to be returned in 5 days time or you would lose your deposit. Faye and I even emailed about the extensions and she told me just to "pop them in the mail" afterwards with no addition of within 5 days. The information was in the contract, but since I added the rental extensions as an afterthought, I missed that part of the contract. My bad. When Alice was doing my hair, I stated let's forget the extensions and she said...well let's just put a few in. The color didn't even match my hair color. So, I got the three, single clip, nasty brassy hair extensions added to my hair. Our wedding was on Saturday. Sunday we left for our honeymoon. Thursday, which was Thanksgiving in the USA, we returned home. Saturday the three little hair extensions went in the mail to Canada. Due to a postal strike they were not received by the Faye Smith Agency timely which result in the loss of my $150 deposit. So in the end, three little hair extensions cost $225. Out of all of our wedding vendors, the Faye Smith Agency was the most disappointing. No confirmation email ahead of our event or even an email after to check in. All our other vendors both confirmed and thanked us for our business after the wedding. If you are considering using this company for your wedding or event, I would recommend you take your business elsewhere. .

However, when I sat down, Ada start to cut my hair and spraying water. I thought maybe she will wash my hair later. She didn't; she just said she would put some moroccan oil on my hair because my hair was dry. I was skeptical about it because when I was at another hair salon, the hairstylist put the moroccan oil after my hair has been washed. Then she asked Richard to turn on the curler. I felt odd because I didn't ask for my hair to be curly. I was the last customer of the day. She just kept cutting and then she curled the ends of my hair. She said, "I want you to have a different style. Do you know the star XXX? She looks nice with this hairstyle." But that is not what I'd asked for; I just want my hair to be straight with layers and the ends trimmed. She also said," I bought the curler for $100 but now curlers are so cheap, only $40 something. You see how I curled the hair? I will teach you next time." It was strange that she said that; no hairstylists would say that when they curled your hair. It was 30 degrees outside but she asked Richard to turn off the air conditioning. Saving electricity? I don't know why. She kept cutting then she asked me to stand up to let her see my hair. She said she would see my hair better if I stand up. If she cannot cut my hair using the mirror nor just by looking at my face while I was sitting, she is genuinely unprofessional. This is the first time that a hairstylist asked me to stand up in order for him/her to cut the hair. The phone rang after a few seconds, I sat down as she went to answer the phone. When she took off the towel on my shoulder and the protective coat that I wore after she finished cutting my hair. She said. "Wait, your hair." The she cut the ends of my hair again on my shirt and she said, "Don't move" as her scissor was close to my neck. It is really unprofessional for the hairstylists to cut the hair again after they took off the towel and the protective coat. She charged me the price of a single cut at the end. However, I never ask for a single cut only; I expect the haircut includes shampoo and blow dry. Also, I, the client, shouldn't need to stand up for her to see and to cut my hair; that just means she is unskillful. Moreover, she shouldn't cut the client's hair after taking away the towel and the protective coat from his/her clothes. Importantly, she didn't cut the hairstyle that I, the client, had asked for. She had done a hairstyle that she wants instead. If she is that arrogant, then I will just try another hair salon. P.S. After I washed my hair that night and the curls were gone, I realized that my hair on the right side is half inch shorter than my hair on the left side. I suspect that the good reviews were written by their relatives or friends, or just for a discount from the hair salon. Their prices are not cheap; same prices as other Chinese hair salons. The owners (Ada and Richard) are not professional at all, regarding their skills and service. There are better choices of Chinese hair salons in Vancouver.

On a rare occasion I will mention names only for the purposes of management to be aware. Names provided on their website. Sitting in my styling chair and having Kim take care of me, I was actually quite impressed. Not only was she a delight to deal with but she's an absolute expert at what she does...I received exactly what I was looking for. I was really enjoying myself...the energy, the vibe and knowing I was in good hands with Kim who was cutting my hair for the first time. I was in this Zen place thinking to myself in my chair ....finally I found my salon. ........................Until At the end, as I was checking out.....Luna charged me $120. I reminded her that actually Kim's fee for a woman's cut on the website is $100. She mentioned that this is the minimum and that it can increase based on the length of hair, quality of hair...and this and that....which is funny because they call you before the appointment and ask you all that stuff, but don't mention any price increase, until you have to pay....lol I asked her again and she said, the website is not accurate... wow...ok.... Anyhoo, I did find it a little disingenuous especially considering that Kim my stylist mentioned it was easy to cut my hair because of how healthy it is...so why the extra charge then?..... Anyway, moving on....Kim gave me a great cut and she's worth every dollar. What really pissed me off was something else..... I was paying cash, and as I handed Luna my bills she asked would you like change back? I said yes. Twice she asked me and then gave me this look like you're not leaving a tip?! She asked me again, you want ALL of it back?...Yes, I said....As I wanted to manage the tip situation with Kim herself upon a little chat before heading out. What made this even worse was, as Luna was giving me back my change...she dropped every single nickel, dime and Loonie on the desk. Before giving me ....this judgemental look. Every single minute of that enjoyable experience in that salon before checkout crashed and burned. Ok....I'll tell you....it wasn't even the money. I felt judged. I did speak with Kim afterwards outside only to be fair, as I wanted her to know, because she is a great stylist. However, it is exactly due to people like the front desk girl Luna cashing me out that I will not return here. I'm sad to say. Hair salons are like any other businesses. Reception is everything. The first thing the customers experiences and the last thing the customer leaves with...either brings them back or not. Interestingly, Upon arrival, the front girl was someone else and her energy and service matched an upscale environment, professional and courteous. Pity for them she wasn't the one at the front as I was leaving. If you are the reception for the evening, it is not your business how much tip clients leave or choose not to leave. It is however, your business to problem solve which she didn't do. At all. "The website is not accurate" is all she gave me with a blank stare. She didn't even attempt to ask or consult my stylist about the fee confusion, or to ask management to look into the matter and honor what could have simply been an honest misunderstanding. She just dropped my change as you would throw a street performer without a second thought, as to customer satisfaction or your own professional responsibility to the salon and its owner. If it weren't for Kim's great cut they'd only get 1 star.

I was thrilled to see another hair salon open on The Drive because I love to support new businesses in my community. I had my hair cut and coloured two previous times by Nikki, (who is a fantastic stylist), and was happy to continue to see her every month. I had an appointment last week at 10:00 am and sadly woke up at 5:00 am feeling very sick. I messaged my stylist through Instagram and I messaged Bangtown to let them know I couldn't make it in because I was so sick and promised to rebook as soon as I felt better and I went back to sleep. When I woke up again I tested myself and was positive for Covid and saw there was a voicemail from the owner, advising me to come in even if I was a "little bit sick" or they would have to charge me anyway. She went into a two minute long explanation of "industry standards" etc. that I found to be slightly condescending as I was now, in my mind, a regular client who wasn't stuck in traffic, as she also inferred,(I kept the message). So I called the shop back and said "I received your long winded slightly condescending voicemail and need to let you know I have Covid. She cut me off and started yelling at me because she didn't like the wording I used even though that was how I felt and I am entitled to say how I feel as a customer. She then hung up on me. A few seconds later she called back. I was thinking she was going to apologize because she was obviously having a bad day but instead she told me I was banned from her business and to go F*** myself!! I was shocked! Then I opened my bank account to see that she stole $279.00 from my account, the full value of the service I was booked for. I was a great customer who tipped 30% each time. This is nothing against Nikki, who is an excellent stylist. I sent an email to the owner giving her a chance to rethink this but received no reply. So I have filed a complaint with my bank and I will not be backing down on getting my money back from this company, even if I have to go to small claims court. I can understand if she had to charge me up to half, as per "industry standards" but to steal the full amount from my account because I was sick and wanted to rebook was wrong. I was not a NO SHOW. I called as soon as I could. I have since talked to other stylists on the Drive and they agree with me. There are exceptions to every rule or "industry standard".

But the end result was completely different than what I had asked for. I specifically wanted my hair to be dyed a blonde balayage, so that I could colour on top of it. But my hair stylist, Sayuri, thought I was joking when I wanted to dye it pink again. The first time my hair was bleached and toned, it turned out to be a dark blue/brown colour after the toner. I wasn't too worried about the blue, since I have toned my hair before with Wella T14 and I knew it would fade. She mentioned that after washing it with purple shampoo for two weeks, my hair would fade to an ash blonde. But after a MONTH of washing my hair WITH non-sulfate free shampoo to strip the colour, my hair was still a light brown, and the blue had faded to a silver. This was definitely not the colour I had asked for. So I called the salon and spoke with the manager, and he was kind enough to offer me a hair fix as a refund. I went back and asked for the exact same thing, thinking that this would fix the issue. But my hair was once again, NOT the colour I had asked for. My hair turned out to be a shade of brown again, and she mentioned that she had added extra toner so that the colour would last longer. But that was not what I had asked for whatsoever. I had agreed to pay for toner since the bleach was on them. But when I was handed the bill, the toner was $90 for long hair. She had not communicated to me the price at all, and I was shocked that she would charge me service on top of the price of the toner, when she had made the mistake on my hair in the first place! Needless to say that after TWO salon visits, my hair was still not the colour that I had asked for despite two bleach sessions. And she mentioned that, "It will lighten to ash blonde, trust me." Btw, that photo was taken a month after my second appointment. What I've learned is that language barrier goes a long way. Her native language is Japanese, and it was hard communicating with her in English, and some of the miscommunication must have happened there. But I am also pretty blown away that she was able to screw up my hair not once, but twice. And still charge me for the toning service she actively did not speak of. Avoid this salon location for hair bleaching at all costs!! And make sure you take into account the language barrier before you carefully select the hair stylist you work with. Learn from my mistakes please :)
