They all deserve a raise or bonus. I've seen some of them all day , that night and returned the next morning , with a damn smile ! I stayed for a week during a dog show held in its halls. Not the most updated, but things have been changed since my friend stayed before the pandemic. Looks like they are ready to remodel or other upkeep. Great place for pet/livestock shows or convention/trade shows. Some questioned the security towards the rear of the building, being from NJ I really didn't think it was concerning. Take regular precautions and you'll be fine. Police regularly rolled through it seemed. Hotel staff did their best to keep us rowdy dog people quiet ! Again , great staff, asked us to keep it down but still let us party, that's awesome ! Food was pretty darn good for a hotel. Bartender for the events was kick ass! Everything was very good and fresh. The bar is touch and go based on clientele presence. Again, labor shortage, when we came out they opened or let us chill with a 6 pack instead. The atrium is pretty but very loud and acoustic Having the bar in the middle doesn't help. But hey it is what it is. And it is fun , especially if you all are together. Topeka it self was cool too, lots of food options not far. Only a couple within walking distance. I'd def. go back for another show. I'd stay elsewhere for peace & quite , not a knock just being honest. Great place to party, hope it stays busy and grows!

There are several different…read morehouses on the same street which are part of the B&B, and we stayed in the main one, a 1920s Tudor-style mansion which was once one of the most valuable homes in Topeka. The living room was designed after a Tudor-era library, with lots of dark carved woodwork and stained-glass windows. The owner seems to be on a mission to save her block of this urban neighborhood in Topeka which is safe but has seen better days. As the rundown-but-beautiful houses on her block go on the market, she snaps them up, renovates them, and adds them to her little mini-village of bed-and-breakfast venues. She's a one-woman neighborhood rehabilitation program and has obviously made this her life's work, down to collecting decorative items to lovingly put her idiosyncratic touch on every square inch. Our room -- The Chester, named after the original owner of the mansion, Chester Woodward -- included a private full bath and a small gardenlike private rooftop deck with a hot tub. The room is cozy rather than spacious but very comfortable. Every night the owner brings out a homemade dessert (the night we were there it was a lemon-cheese ball to be spread on homemade sugar cookies the way you'd spread a savory cheese ball on crackers -- I'm so stealing this idea) and her morning breakfasts are lavish. She checked our convenience for breakfast and was clearly prepared to serve earlier or later depending on our needs. She was also happy to give us pointers on where to eat and what to see in Topeka. The Saturday night we were there she'd arranged for a couples' massage team to offer massages for guests. We didn't take advantage of it but other guests were. I would definitely stay here again if I were in Topeka overnight.

While the building, facilities, and rooms are dated, we found it to be clean and in good condition. The beds were comfortable and the shower was clean with good water pressure on the 6th and 9th floors. We slept well here. Breakfast was sufficient and good for the tastes of everyone in our party. The staff manning it was friendly and helpful. The location worked well for us. We enjoyed walking downtown and discovered some nice little shops (chocolate!) and a great place for dinner. It was a little further from where we needed to be but worth the extra few minutes drive. All of our interactions with staff were pleasant. Our needs were quickly met. There was a mildly unpleasant odor in both rooms and the hallways. It may best described as "old" + disinfectant. It only bothered one in our group. Overall, while not perfect, this will be the first place we will look at the next time we visit family in Topeka.

Guest Services: The nice American lady was obliged to help us. Very friendly and knowledgable of the area. Security: Dimly-lit parking lot at night. It's located on a highway with many retail shops, so it has the ability to be busy, I'm sure. Room: For approx $65, what do you really expect? There is a desk with an office chair as well as a small sofa. The decor is from the 1970s or 80s, probably when the place was constructed. Cable t.v., free wifi. Nothing really spectacular, but I could bring my labs inside--so I was content. Bathroom: Small & Cramped! The water pressure was ok. I've experienced worse. Breakfast: Nothing to write home about here. Waffles and muffins. Atkins BEWARE! You might want to stash a protein shake in your bag. Pet Policy: I think I paid $10 per pet, which tacked on an extra $20 for my tab. Overall, the place was clean, they had a bed, and it was quiet. Check in and check out was a breeze. There were a few other people staying here, but I never heard them. I would not stay here alone if I were traveling solo. I would consider lodging here again if we were in the area with my labs, but if I weren't trying to get them into a reasonable hotel, I would have chosen a different place to stay the night.

I needed to board 1 dog for 8 hours on August 1st, and he has no special needs, and has been there before. I put down a 25.00 deposit. I really cannot afford to do this, and on 7-19 (11 days notice) called to cancel and requested a return of the deposit. Apparently it is in the fine print that if you cancel, even with 11 days notice, they give you a credit. You can cancel any physician appointment with 24 hours notice, or less. I explained the reason: financial. This makes me feel ill: I cant afford it. They didnt care, and kept my money. You shouldnt have to be rich to board an uncomplicated pet for 8 hours. This is shameful, at the very least. This is an addition, after my review went live: the refusal to return by deposit with 11 days notice and making it a store credit was NOT explained when I made the reservation over the phone. They are very expensive and in my experience there are hidden fees, despite the answer from the owner. To the owner: trust me, I am sorry as well.
