We've gotten about 5 cuts since with Nikki and my 2 year old son has been... frankly a nightmare: crying, jerking his head, sliding out of the chair. Nikki is so patient and professional. I have no idea how she does it without poking his eye out with the scissors but I'm SO grateful she does such a great job and puts up with us. She's the only person who has successfully trimmed the hair over his ears. The line can get long here so it would be nice to make a reservation or appointment but the old school barber experience is pretty special. Nikki is well worth any wait.

As we were walking downtown in Petaluma we walked past on a whim and found this barber shop and asked them if they were taking walk-ins. Surprisingly they were and they had a spot for him right then and there. I was pleased to see that they were taking covid precautions seriously and had plastic barriers between clients as well as everyone was wearing masks and they gave everyone a no-touch temperature check before they could agree to cut their hair. They only have two chairs going at the same time and everyone else waiting had to sit outside which was okay with me. My better half said that the gentleman that cut his hair was friendly and easy to talk to and took the time to understand what kind of haircut he wanted before he started in on the task at hand. Additionally, the price was great, they took the better part of an hour for this haircut and it cost a grand total of $26. At the time they only took cash but I don't know if that's just for now or if that's their standard process. The location is easy to get to right in downtown Petaluma, and I definitely think that we will be returning for the excellent and detail-oriented haircut as well as the hard to beat price. It's always great to find a good barber and hair stylist in our new locations when we move and this will definitely be somewhere I see us returning frequently for our barber needs.

I called on Tuesday to book a color appointment and was told the colorist was on vacation, with Friday or Saturday as the next available options. Friday didn't work for me, but I was told Saturday would also be available. I also would've been willing to change my Friday plans to make this all work out. I called back Friday afternoon to follow up and lock in a Saturday morning appointment, based on what I had been told earlier in the week. Instead, I was told they couldn't accommodate me due to the Butter & Eggs Festival. I also received feedback that calling at 3pm when they close at 6pm wasn't enough time, which didn't make sense given that I wasn't asking for a same-day appointment--I was continuing a conversation to schedule ahead. What made this more frustrating was that I was trying to work within the availability they had already given me, but the expectations kept changing. While they did offer Sunday and recommended other salons (which I appreciate), that wasn't the point--I was trying to book within the options they initially provided. After this, I actually called again because I had rearranged my schedule for Sunday, hoping to still make it work. At that point, I was told Monday was the only option available. Unfortunately, that no longer worked for me due to work and moving to another city. I also spoke with the manager. While she was apologetic, it didn't feel like there was much effort to actually find a solution. She offered a new stylist that probably wouldn't be comfortable doing highlight but invited me for a Sunday appointment consultation to get me in. She acknowledged that scheduling and communication have been ongoing challenges there, which I appreciated the honesty around--but as a long-time client, that was also difficult to hear. This appointment was meaningful to me. It was intended to be my last visit before moving, and this is a salon I've trusted for so many important moments--engagement photos, weddings, graduations, and even just times I needed to feel like myself again. That's why it's especially disappointing to be ending on this note. I've always tried to be flexible and understanding over the years, but this experience felt like a continuation of inconsistent communication and shifting expectations, without much effort to meet me halfway. I understand that events and staffing can affect availability, but clearer communication and follow-through--especially with long-time clients--would go a long way. I'm genuinely upset.

Didn't even cut the top, per my request, BUT 45 minutes? Good lord. I was the only one in there, so it wasn't like they were busy. The guy would NOT stop talking. Secondly, $40 for a haircut? Seriously? Not sure if they charge by the minute or what, but that's ridiculous. Yelp said the pricing was $18, so obviously, that was incorrect. I didn't know until it was over. The haircut wasn't even very good, and the fade had dark spots in multiple areas once I showered. I had to go somewhere else to get it fixed. Thirdly, I had to throw away my shirt because on the straight razor shave around my neck, he nicked me. I bled for a while, even after I left. I didn't have any moles or anything so not sure what happened, but he didn't tell me and when I left I scratched my neck and there was blood all over my hand. Save your money and go to SUPERCUTS or somewhere else. $40 is not reasonably priced at all.

My wife suggested we try to find a mobile barber service and lo and behold we found Orlanndo's Galicia Mobile Barbershop on Yelp. I called him yesterday and he was able to come to my house this morning - easier to get an appointment than my regular downtown Novato barber. He was precisely on time and invited me into his converted van, which for all intents and purposes WAS a barber shop! The chair, sink, lather dispenser, tools and cleaning supplies were all there, along with the amazing hot towel box. Orlando cut my hair exactly the way I wanted it, and then proceeded to lather up my face for the hot towel razor shave. Smooooth as silk in no time! My wife was so impressed she had to snap the photo to share with my kids too. When you're not feeling well, something as simple as a haircut or a shave can really make you feel HUMAN again, and that's exactly what Orlando did for me today.
