This is a fantastic barber shop! The way a barber shop should be. Great conversations, comfortable atmosphere with multiple televisions and great clientele. I felt right at home here, definitely the way barber shops use to be. I had a haircut and beard trim that was fantastic! Prices are very fair and with COVID, they have an extremely easy to use online scheduling tool, that emails you reminders. Thanks Mike & team for the great place for a great haircut. read more

First off, I went in a couple of weeks ago and was not happy. YELP just pinged me for a review, hence the delay. The haircut took 45 minutes, and he just did a fade on the sides. Didn't even cut the top, per my request, BUT 45 minutes? Good lord. I was the only one in there, so it wasn't like they were busy. The guy would NOT stop talking. Secondly, $40 for a haircut? Seriously? Not sure if they charge by the minute or what, but that's ridiculous. Yelp said the pricing was $18, so obviously, that was incorrect. I didn't know until it was over. The haircut wasn't even very good, and the fade had dark spots in multiple areas once I showered. I had to go somewhere else to get it fixed. Thirdly, I had to throw away my shirt because on the straight razor shave around my neck, he nicked me. I bled for a while, even after I left. I didn't have any moles or anything so not sure what happened, but he didn't tell me and when I left I scratched my neck and there was blood all over my hand. Save your money and go to SUPERCUTS or somewhere else. $40 is not reasonably priced at all. read more

BIG Georgia here...... Best old school barbershop where there is a hold no bars conversation from politics, sports, best bars, and other sundry discussions. I don't usually lile making appointments but if I hang out White Mike can get me in. Love the fact that they truly do care about their clients, its home town atmosphere and the fact its open dialog that's the true essence of what a MAN'S Barbershop should be. Great Job Guys!!!!!! read more

Mike's Barber Shop - Barbers Near Me - Petaluma, California

Great hair cut.10/10.would highly recommend. The vibe was amazing in there.amazing cut.

I don't normally write reviews, but in this case, I want to write a review specifically for any gay guys or trans guys considering a cut at Mike's. Don't go. I'm a trans guy who typically passes, and I went to Mike's barber shop for a same day cut ahead of a surprise work event. Within minutes of walking in, the barber was making homophobic remarks and then went on a rant about trans people. They also made it clear that if they don't like what someone says they are quick to throw a punch, so I bit my tongue, waited for the cut to finish, and left. It wasn't even a good haircut, uneven on the sides and the top. Won't be going back and hope this review spares other queer folks. Plenty of barbers in Petaluma -- steer clear of this one. read more

Horrible experience, the barber mis cut my beard and hair. It looks awful. I went back to complain and have it fixed but they just handed me my money back and said that they were only contracted barbers and they have no ties. What low class. Im disgusted. read more

Took our son for his 1st haircut. Mike was so good with him. He did a great job on his hair and when we went to pay he said his cut was on the house. Everyone was so kind and nice. The atmosphere is a great hometown barbershop feel. We definitely found our new place for haircuts. read more

Mike's Barber Shop - Barbers Near Me - Petaluma, California

I lived in West Oakland for three years and had a barber I really liked. Then I moved back to Sonoma County and no matter how I tried to rationalize it, I couldn't justify spending 3.5 hours on mass transit both ways for a haircut and a shave. These guys are great and I love my haircut. It was absolutely worth the money for a great cut, a shave and hanging out with some locals for a while. It turns out that they are the oldest barbershop in Sonoma County. I am now a regular. read more

What is it about a proper barber shop? It's about being able to walk in without an appointment and be greeted by barbers who are cutting hair, giving beard advice and talking smack about sports and cracking jokes. It's not about polite, it's about being home in a proper man cave. Today I sat down in an old school barber chair and with little explanation about what I wanted for a cut, getting the best hair cut money can buy without having product pushed on me. I enjoyed the wait and talked amongst the other customers and had a beer. Mikes Barber Shop is my home away from home and it's because the crew rules and I leave feeling great about my day and my decision to get my hair cut. I love this place and it's my barber shop and it should be yours too. read more

Ruined my cut each of the 3 times I've gone. DONT COME HERE. Every cut I've seen come out of this shop has been hot garbage. It's like their high schoolers practicing on their friends. read more

I've been struggling to find a new Barber for the last few years since mine moved. My co worker recommended these guys after I asked where he got his haircut from. Super cool, down to earth, good ol local boys. Felt comfortable right away. White Mike is the guy who cut my hair (that's the name I was given not a racial ordeal for all you offended panzies) he did a killer fade and a great beard line up. These guys are my new barbers. Highly recommended and cool as shit read more

Doug, his name is Doug. Fabulous high & tight, beard trim and all around good conversations. Nice old school feel to the place. Wife says best hair cut I have gotten in years. read more

We love going to Mike's Barber Shop. Our entire family has been coming here for years. Their barbers are great at what they do. They are always so friendly and get my boys in right away. It is a low key and relaxed environment. Reasonably priced and I love supporting local. Being able to book an appointment online in advance thru BOOKSY has been helpful with the recent addition of an online booking app. There is no wait time, especially during the re-opening period of covid. Thanks for keeping us looking good boys! See you soon! read more

Walked in there to 2 young guys who flat out ignored me. One "haircutter" drinking a tall boy of Budweiser. Real professional. I don't recommend this hole in the wall to anyone. Good luck if you do. read more

This place does great work. All three barbers I have had are excellent. I have been happy every time. The atmosphere is fun, x-rated at times, and the first time I ever walked in, Mike offered me a cold one. Rockstars read more

I must say this is one of the best places I've ever been to. Well rounded young gentleman that are respectful to all. This is truly a family location we're all peoples beliefs thoughts and emotions are considered. Softest hands in the game go to my boy Kevin. He has definitely healed me with his hands. He has touched me unlike anyone else has ever touched me. I am leaving the shop today like a new man. read more

I always go here and get a cut and never give them any props on the wonderful job they do. Kevin is my go to guy and always knows my hairstyle. I dont have to tell him what to do, and we just catch up on what we have been up to. Highly recommend this location read more

I'm an easy going guy but this place did not go well for me. I was surprised at how bad my experience was because what had brought me there in the first place was my friend posting about how good they were on Facebook. When I arrived with my GF the dude Mike was hanging out with his friend and had me sit down to cut my hair, so far so good. Then I notice Mike starts up with how he's going to make me into a "pussy magnet", and saying every inappropriate womanizing joke he can think of while my GF is sitting listening the entire time. Does Mike really think I'm going to like him asking me how much tail I get and such while my GF is in earshot. Mike is drinking a Heineken the entire time this is going but I don't care if you drink on the job as long as you do it well. Then I notice he is on his last beer of the 6 pack and it's maybe 3/4pm. Mike puts the buzzer to my neck and each time it goes across I can feel a deep scratch on my neck. I just assume if it's really bad he'll notice because it's his job. No he doesn't notice. After paying and leaving I got to work and all my coworkers are freaked out by the amount of blood and cuts on my neck. Haircut wasn't great either. Never ever going back.... read more

Mike is taking back the barber shop. It's been a long time since I had been in a barber shop where men can be men while getting their hair cut - trash talking, talking trashy and speaking the speak that is reserved only for the locker room or bachelor parties. It's not that women are not welcome, they are. However, they should be somewhat attractive before stepping in or walking by to avoid getting a dose of barber shop slander. Mike Ayala opened the shop up 5 years ago. The space is as you would expect a barber shop to be, a line of chairs, old dirty magzines and sports posters. What makes the joint is Mike and Phil, who will give you a mullet if you want it. They're skilled hair cutters, finishing your cut with a straight edge blade that your hair "stylist" down the street would never try. If you brought some beer down, I'm sure they wouldn't mind. read more

I was in on Sunday. Mike, the "barber legend" was sober, worst experience of my life! If you thought his haircuts were bad when he's drunk, you should see how they turn out sober. After the first 2.5 hours, in the chair, I got tired of hearing about his new journey with AA and the bets he's made with "Jim" about quitting drinking! I will not be back until mike, the "legend", starts drinking again! Update: I went back, Mike was hammered! We talked about sex, drugs, his wife, and some random dudes mom. He could barely run the clippers but the cut was legit! Im leaving it at one star, cuz as far the haircuts actually go, they suck! Unless you go on a Sunday when Mike is drunk! read more

Newly arrived in Petaluma looking for a decent barber shop, read all the Yelp reviews and gave Mike's a try. The guy cutting my hair did a reasonable job but obviously failed to listened as I had told him NOT to cut off the sideburns, just trim' em. Complete disaster, both sideburns gone ,above the ear. Skipped the place next time in favour of another local shop, and went back to Mike's last week.. Same instructions as before re sideburns, only this time, one was left on and another completely gone. Additionally, my ear was cut and bleeding when I left, and the back line was awful. I am not prepared to pay to go through this again so adios Mike's - Never again read more

First time here. My husband goes in and the guy cutting his hair kept stopping to talk to his friend who came in to chat. He could not talk and cut at the same time and was ignoring my husband the entire time. He was practically yelling as he talked about his baby mama and "girl" and complained in a mimicked whinny voice about how people sang to him on his birthday, whispering to his friend about the sex after, and cussing the whole time. They also had an empty six pack, in n out bags, and grey goose bottles out. He was giving my husband a tapered fade which usually takes 20 min at our regular shop which was closed today. He didn't even touch the front of his hair, never used scissors, only buzzers, and it took him at least 40 min. They cut him with the razor, it was 26 bucks, and they only take cash. read more

Mike's is by far the best barber shop I've been to in Petaluma since I've lived here (almost 2 years now). As everyone else will tell you, it's definitely a guys' barber shop with sports on the TV in every corner, can't beat that in my opinion! Super laid-back atmosphere and only $26 for a hair cut and beard trim. If possible, I'd recommend making a reservation, as it can get busy on the weekends. No doubt I'll be coming back to Mike's from here on out! read more

Update: Went back for two more cuts. Last time Phil cut my hair again and it looked great. Just had another cut and I don't know what to say. One sideburn square, other is triangle both different lengths. Phil gave me two great cuts and other guys made me look different. Going back to my old barber in San Rafael. I cant deal with this. Definately not worth the wait. Guy atmosphere and conversations My first cut was just fine, next cut not so good; my kids teased me. They clip off those pesky man hairs like a barbershop should (ears, nose, eyebrows). Not sure if I will return as I wasn't looking for a new look, just a quick trim. read more

Mike did a phenomenal job cutting my husband's short silver hair. We are full-time rv'ers and work all over the country, We each dread finding great haircutters every few months! We looked at yelp reviews and found Mike. The only reason we did not give 5 stars is the cost of a haircut...the most he has every paid!!!...but like I said, great haircut:) read more

I recently moved to Petaluma from LA and was really unsure of where to get my hair cut - In fact, for the first few months I was driving to SF rather than rolling the dice here in town. Yelp was not providing clear direction either - all of the reviews on local shops seemed either outdated or mixed :( Finally I decided to take a chance on Mike's because it's so close to my new house - and it was a gamble that paid off! The atmosphere is 100% authentic barbershop. These are guy's guys who joke a lot and laugh a lot (don't worry moms and dads, they do clean it up if you're here with a young child). Reminds me of shops where I grew up (Boston). Mike is hilarious. I've only had my haircut by Mannie, because he's amazing. Truly a master barber capable of blending old school, classic styling with new school precision clipper cuts - side part with a tight fade? Best in the biz, hands down. Prices are great. The wait varies - somedays it's crowded, other days it's empty - but I don't mind waiting, because it's worth the wait. **Side note, I tried to do some touch-ups on my hair at home with clippers - totally jacked myself up - Mannie brought me in and fixed me up for free. In exchange, I promised to never try to cut my own hair again. Put your trust in Mannie and Mike, they'll take care of you ;) read more

I honestly love this shop. The guys are always hilarious and do an amazing job on my fiancé! I personally am a hairdresser and as all hairdressers know sometimes we don't have time to do our picky mans hair all the time so I trust mike and the guys to take care of him. I also get my hair designs here. Manny does them and they always are a showstopper. Seriously I get stopped all the time. Women trust the guys here to make your boys look like proper men and your husbands and boyfriends looking sexy and desirable! I trust these guys a lot and recommend them to my clients all the time. read more

great service took my grandson love his hair cut very professional. recommend mikes barber shop..

For starters great hair cut, but really lets say every last hair on my head finally falls off I'm still going to go there to have one of the guys buff my head with a towel. The place is amazing. Almost always two - three conversations flying back and forth. Sports, music, women, politics and more women. Almost always their will be a 20-30 year old in there not necessarily needing a hair cut but just catching up with the goings on in Petaluma. The craziest thing is you got the high-schoolers all the way up to the grandfathers in there, and they all seem to commingle in this place just fine. I should say too all the guys seem to know when to tone it down when mom or dad brings the boys in for their hair cuts. Overall just what your grandfather had in his town for a barber shop way back in the day. Thanks guys a real treat when I moved to this town three years ago Mark read more

Great place to get a hair cut, we love mike's. They always do a great job and at a fair price. Ask for Kevin he is the best. Thanks

The guys here are nice, but we've waited over an hour a couple times because they don't take appointments. Also, they take their "friends" out of order. Cuts are just "okay" and the owner is actually kind of "half assed" when he does it. Kevin's cuts are definitely better, actually kind of hoping he moves somewhere that appointments are honored. Im sure my review won't hurt business as they always seem to be slammed. But if you are in any type of hurry, don't bother coming here. Average price, easy parking. read more

I really liked the rough, crude humor atmosphere. However, the person who cut my hair simply butchered it. The guy was drinking alcohol while cutting my hair. Now I have to live with uneven hairline, the hair on the back of my head is a quarter of an inch higher than the rest. When I told the guy that " I wanted my hair a half an inch short," he said I was picky. I should be very picky if I'm going to spend $26 dollars on a haircut for mens. I know this is a 1st world problem, but skip on going here, you'll thank me and yourself later. read more
