Duchess Of Denver - Wedding Reception at Flagstaff House Boulder, CO

Second to saying yes, hiring the Duchess of Denver was the best wedding decision we made! From…read morespending hours truly getting to know us, to having all the right connections, to gracefully navigating a weather pivot on our wedding day, Alex surpassed every expectation. My husband and I knew we wanted to create a unique, beautiful wedding experience that we, our family and friends would cherish and remember. We'd wanted elements of a traditional wedding weekend but one that felt fun and not like every other wedding we'd been to. We also knew that, as a busy engineer and lawyer, we had very little knowledge about what goes into a great wedding and very little time or desire to learn the intricacies of "the perfect wedding." Alex spent hours asking probing and fun questions. He really got to know our visions, desires and quirks. There were so many times when we said things like "we want a dinner the night before, but not a typical rehearsal reception with people standing around at hightop in a bland conference room." He absorbed all of it and turned it into a fabulous weekend. Alex's encyclopedic knowledge about James and Rebecca was invaluable when my work got super crazy a few months before the wedding. When I told Alex that I could do big decisions, but the little ones, like choosing ribbon color or envelopes for invitations, were hurting my brain, Alex stepped in and planned everything based on what he knew about us. Alex found us a breathtaking space in the Penrose Room at the Broadmoor, he coordinated flowers to match my colorful dress, helped pick perfect delicious meal stations that suited a variety of dietary needs, organized the music and stayed on top of the hotel until their 3,000 square foot Parker suite opened up. Alex interviewed and found the best make-up artist, designed hand calligraphed journals for our guests, and created guest bags that with fun and useful things. I could go on and on! Alex's management of every detail meant the weekend ran smoothly and everyone was happy! He created a bowling night for our out-of-town guests and wedding party, worked with the hotel make sure family members with friction had rooms far away from each other, stocked our bride and groom suite with snacks and champagne, moved us us through the precise schedule of photos, ceremony and reception, and organized a fun and delicious good-bye brunch. When a surprisingly rainy June meant our outdoor ceremony space was a mud-field, Alex pivoted and redesigned a large alcove in the reception space to be a cozy ceremony space. So many of our friends and family have said that ours was one of the best weddings they'd ever attended. Ok, ok, maybe they have to say that, but in this case, I think it's probably true! We would recommend Alex to any couple, especially successful professionals who want to create a first class, memorable experience (but might now have the first clue of how do to it).

Overall our wedding was a day we will cherish forever! There are definitely a couple of things that…read morewould have made it a lot better though. To start off we had no air conditioning in the bridal suite. We had two small fans that did nothing but push around the hot air. My mother over heated right before my wedding time and it was awful. One AC unit was downstairs and one in the groom suite. People (including John) assured me that things would be cool and that was not what happened at all. Also no A/C was moved to the basement after being used in the groom suite and after we requested it to be moved. It was blazing hot in the basement and we ended the dance early due to people getting overheated. Second Sylvia, who was supposed to do the elevators and anything else we needed, did not reply promptly to our requests and made it seem like we were an inconvenience to help us. We had to go find her more than once and we had to search for her. We had several people leave before our first dance in the basement because they didn't want to wait on the elevator and hold up the wedding. It was very very disappointing to myself and my husband. It was his aunt and uncle and others who left because his uncle had a stroke and can no longer walk. It took us over ten minutes to find Sylvia. My brother and stepdad had to clear an entrance for the elevator to be used. I would have loved to actually meet my organizer Katie face to face but instead she sent a lady named Aspen in her place (Aspen was wonderful but didn't know anything of what Katie and I had already discussed). I didn't let any of that ruin our night. It is a beautiful venue but definitely some things need to be improved. Catering was wonderful!

While caution may be indicated during a unique period in our society, Hurricane Rita represents the worst kind of creature this pandemic has produced. This venue should be avoided until she finds another job. It's one thing to ask that guests wear masks, it's another thing to attempt to require the attendants AND officiant to wear masks during the ceremony. Spacing? Sure....not allowing the attendants to walk side-by-side but they can stand next to each other? Huh? Attached is an honest to God seating arrangement. Who is at that single table? The officiant....and father of the groom! No matter, he can come sit with us! Not allowed suggests Hurricane Rita! She threatened to stop the party, to which I laughed. Her next move? She yelled at and pointed her finger at the server, Sandy, who moved the place setting from the single table to our table. Dancing? Sure, but only at your table with other people at your table. And you can't leave your table for anything. This petty rule can't possibly extended to the father/daughter dance? It sure does! What option do you have? They can dance outside....but no one can view the dance. Hurricane Rita and her overlords are the worst type of person. They are given a modicum of power and use it to make up rules that no rational person would come up with or attempt to enforce. Sic semper tyrannis. Hurricane Rita and the rest.

Since I checked in late at night and checked out early in the morning, there wasn't much of a wait. However, there were some instances where I needed something and had to wait at the bar while they served other customers, some of which were staying at the Moxy and others who were there for drinks. My stay overall was not bad, but not great. The pros: (1) The room was not a bad size for one person. Like other reviews, all of the items you can use were hung on a wall and didn't take up too much space. (2) They provided most of what you would need during your stay on the second floor: iron, toothbrush/paste, hair caps, sewing kit, earbuds, lotion, toilet paper, towels, etc. (3) They provided complimentary drink tickets during your stay. (4) The staff overall are very friendly and try their best to help. The cons: (1) The room can feel really cramped once you start using the hanging items. There is also a strange gap between the bed and the side space created as a nightstand. (2) There is no closet or mini fridge, so if you're here for a long stay, don't expect to have a way to store any leftovers. They do have a microwave downstairs, but it's not that helpful without a fridge. (3) There are garbage trucks that drive through every morning, so unless you're a very deep sleeper or on a higher floor, you would need the earbuds. (4) I requested to have the room cleaned and no one came to clean it (after my 3rd day of staying there). (5) If you like going to the gym, there is not much equipment at this hotel compared to the other two. There are some dumbbells, 3 cardio machines, and a punching bag. (6) This is more of a safety hazard than anything else. The emergency staircase does not connect to the first floor. Because I was on the second floor and one of the elevators broke during my stay, I tried walking downstairs to make the process quicker. It is not connected. (7) My shower flooded. If you stay for more than 3 nights, you have to unclog the shower drain every 3 days to make sure it doesn't flood.

After I got over my confusion, I took in the facility and it had very clean and trendy feel. The room made me think of a hostel as it was small and minimal. I was skeptical that I would be comfortable there but, once I acclimated to my surroundings, I made myself at home and had a good stay. Another source of confusion for me was parking. I checked valet and it was pretty expensive so I parked in the public lot next door which worked out very well as it was convenient and payment was easy. The hotel is close to a lot of restaurants and shopping. I would definitely stay again.

It has a shabby chic vibe, heavy on the "chic" as there are beautiful chandeliers hanging from the ceilings and gorgeous gauzey drapes. It's counterbalanced with the bit of (still upscale) "shabby" aspects in the reclaimed wooden pieces, exposed bits of brick in the walls, concrete floor, and wooden barn doors. Moss offers an entire room full of jars, candle holders, decor pieces, and other accent items you can use for your event, so definitely do not sleep on that aspect of their venue, too. We visited Moss Denver in Autumn so the greenery that you'll see on the grounds was not yet alive and blooming, so consider that if you visit during the winter or fall months. I'm sure the blooms of Summer or Spring add a whole other aspect of the natural ambiance! Aside from the moss, greenery, and chandeleirs, etc - Moss is mostly an empty slate. So you can bring your own design and personal touches to your event pretty easily, which is so great in a venue when you don't want a cookie cutter look. So I recommend definitely at least checking out Moss Denver as an option for weddings, corporate events, reunions, or any other event that needs a nice, pretty malleable space that will work for most any event needs.

I suggested to the patron they should ask for money back due to the poor offerings and service. Still irritated 2 days later and can't say to avoid this place enough.

From Jen's hands on management to the well trained and friendly staff, this stay was a joy. Because I was scoping out a place for future family visits, I asked a lot of questions, all answered with patience and clarity. I looked at nearly every room and the photos you see are not 'tricked out'..., the entire house is lovely. The 'Continental Breakfast' was substantial enough to almost pass for a full meal. Every item met the BnB standard and was well presented, even though I was there early in the week and they could have skimped a bit. The parking is a bit tight but the location is amazing. I enjoyed the free ticket to nearby Denver Botanical Gardens ( which Flora House supports btw). So all in all, with some smaller and some larger rooms with fair prices and no hidden fees, I would recommend Flora House to anyone wanting a 'City Park to Downtown East' pad.
