Very sad to say After having my daughter here for a year this was our second try, Jan still refuses to take control as the owner. Previously we had a parent bullying my child. Both incidents seem to be the end results of the owner Jan refusing to take control who is also verbally abusive. This last incident was with her staff ballet teacher named Nicole who for all intensive purposes is very qualified, however has her own agenda. She has her three children at the studio and if she in class with them that is were her attention is.. Nicole is constantly late to class as she commutes with her children form the valley, she also eats in class or allows her children to come in and district the class, or she'll step out of the class to chat with the staff and parents at the desk. if she's having a bad day she will take it out on the kids in a personal way that has nothing to do with ballet. If you are a teacher you have to remain professional Regardless of what is happening in your personal life.. you are there to mold, encourage and discipline children not attack bully, belittled or degrade... This last incident where she was using my daughter as a punching bag, my daughter entered the classroom and nicole said what are you doing here, My daughter said I'm here to take a make up class, Nicole replied well you can't just do that! mind you my daughter's grandmother had just passed away so she's been trying to make up classes as much as she can as she had missed a lot due to her grandmother on hospice in our home, rather than being sensitive to my daughters recent huge loss in her life Nicole decided to let her stay but to let everybody else know that she was not qualified to be in a class amongst her peers super belittling and embarrassing. Nicole only allowed her to stay in the class to be the punching bag that Nicole needed at that moment. This is a pattern for her. Which she would then admit it wasn't just my daughter, she's just sick of kids feeling that they can do whatever they want. Lucky us, My daughter got to be the example. I requested a meeting with Jan, Jan said that she didn't have time and that I could handle it. Jan never takes responsibility for anything and like to use her years of being open as her excuse for her behavior. Nicole has personal space issues and likes to point her finger peoples face when she's talking. This is extremely rude and not necessary as she is suppose to be an example and a professional. When I told Jan and the personal Space and finger pointing she said "well, yes nicole does get very close to you when she's talking. " This is a constant problem as Jan has no control of her studio and she will make excuses for everything.. her communication skills are terrible and will go days weeks and months before responding, if at all. if you don't mind taking a chance of your child being verbally ABUSED either by a parent or teacher then this studio has some other other truly amazing teachers but just not an environment that I want my child who's trying to strive and build confidence to be in. Jan has been in the valley for over 25 years but she has lost many teachers and students due to the same problem it's a constant issue you would think that she would learn her lesson and learn to be more diplomatic and protect the kids .. also not just take sides of people that she has something to gain from at the moment.. jan used to be on my side when she needed something from me now that, that time has passed she simply told me that if I don't like how her teacher spoke and treated my daughter then this is the studio for us and we agreed!!!! ***UPDATE***. Just got back from a lesson and never seen my baby girl so happy! My daughter LOVES this Studio! We've tried all the other studios in town and none of the others come even close! The professionalism, expertise, knowledge, experience of their staff blows me away. My daughter was an above average dancer for years with "To the Pointe" dance studio for years. After 3 months at Studio 1 with Jan and Juliette, she's now a favorite to win in most of the competitions she enters. Also, not so much drama here like I found at two other studios with crazy dance moms and crazier instructors. Of course, you always get a random crazed dance mom cycle through at Studio 1 but they soon realize they don't fit in with all the normal parents and leave with a pouty face.. Jan has been an instructor for decades and I can tell it is her passion. All the instructors are so good with the kids. This place is absolutely amazing. Plus, the facility is top notch! read more

We moved here to Valencia exactly 2 years ago. We moved during a time where Mia was literally just starting a new dance season at her Granada Hills studio where she grew up since 4. We knew we needed a studio closer to our home that made sense in regards to geography. After a few failed attempts at other studios, I reached out to Jan at Studio 1 and she was so welcoming and suggested to us a few different classes for Mia to give a try. Wow!!!! This place is just incredible. My daughter, Aubriella, had been dancing at another studio for several years. While she enjoyed it, she became bored as she wasn't being pushed and challenged to meet her potential. I called the owner, Jan, and she had my daughter come right away to try a class. We have only been there for 4 weeks and my daughter has grown leaps and bounds. I am amazed at all the things she has learned in such a short amount of time. All of the teachers encourage her and make her believe in herself. They see potential in her and push her to dance her best. They are positive and incredibly loving. My daughter loves to dance and she wanted to learn all dances, from ballet, to hip hop, tap and jazz.When I was making a decision to where I should take my daughter a former Girl Scout troop mom recommended Studio1. This was almost 2 years now and from a single combo class, my daughter did up to 4 classes and loved it.She also had a wonderful opportunity to be a part of a pre-team group that I would never ever think possible. The great teachers of Studio1 did that for my little girl. She gained her confidence on stage, she gained new friends she enjoyed playing with and she is always looking forward to her class each time. It never gets boring to her. I was worried that we wouldn't be able to find a good studio for him since the dance world tends to be dominated by female dancers, but, we have been treated with the utmost respect and kindness from day 1. My daughter and I have been to several studios in the valley, but what I can say is that Studio 1 is completely drama free and everyone is so kind, friendly, and welcoming. My daughter has been at this studio for 2 years now and I know that Studio 1, hands down, has the best training in technique, ballet, contemporary, lyrical, tap, tumbling, and hip hop. The staff is incredible, the owner is an amazing person, and the teachers are THE BEST! Cannot say enough good things about this studio. My daughters (ages 7 and 9) have been dancing at Studio 1 for five years and they absolutely love it there. The staff is amazing and there are plenty of great classes to choose from for children: tap, ballet, tumbling, jazz, hip hop, musical theater, and more. My girls are also on the performance team which attends several competitions throughout the year and they've won many first place prizes. I was really disappointed with the treatment there. I took my 6-year-old daughter there for a free trial hip hop class. When we first arrived a lady approached me and asked me if I had talked to someone about attending the class, then she handed me the registration paper and that was it. When i walked into the class, I introduced the dance instructor to my daughter and I told her that she was nervous. The instructor never addressed my daughter. My daughter stood to a side while everyone started stretching. The instructor never tried to get my daughter to participate, she just ignored her. I decided to leave and no one noticed or said anything. Not all kids are super outgoing. Some kids need a little push. Some times it takes a friendly instructor to make the student feel confidant. if that's what you are looking for DON'T go here. This was the first time my daughter had ever tried a dance class and it wasn't pleasant! read more

My daughter has been taking dance at Studio 1 for 18 months. She has learned SO MUCH! Recently, she has decided that she only wants to do ballet. We decided to compare the ballet training that she was receiving at Studio 1 to some other studios in Santa Clarita. Our family recently moved to Santa Clarita and my daughter just finished her first full year at Studio 1 Dance Academy. We were both a little nervous being the new people, but we were quickly welcomed by the studio director, the teachers, the other dancers, and the other moms. My daughter has grown so much in the last year and had a very successful year as a competitive dancer. All the competition teams at Studio 1 have incredible talent and when they take the stage at competition, you know they have been well prepared and will do well.
