This was a pick by a friend of mine. It has been a favorite of his for a long time; because of the cuts of beef they serve. While it didn't max out on stars, it was very good. It was a busy Saturday night; we waited for our table in the bar area. Our waitress was attentive and got our drinks pretty quickly. They pour a good drink at Stub's! We had a wide variety of options (if you are from Wisconsin, think supper club menus). The prices were reasonable and the atmosphere was nice; although a little loud. I went with the walleye and rib combo. The walleye was fantastic. The ribs were good, but nothing special. The lyonnaise potatoes were hot and tasty. It came with fresh rolls and a house salad. The blue cheese dressing was homemade and had excellent taste. My dining partner had steak with a chicken breast (on a bed of rice). She also had a glazed sweet potato. She enjoyed the meal. My buddy had the rib eye steak and his partner had scallops. Both said they were good; however, not as good as meals they had there on previous visits. My friend thought the quality of the steak had gone down. While not an easy place to get to, it was worth our drive. I'd definitely give it a shot if I returned to the area. read more

Love Stubs! Favorite place to eat at the lake! The walleye is the best around! We went to see the newly renovations and it looks great! We were able to talk with the owner and she walked us around to show us all of the changes. The staff and service are still wonderful. Jerome and Eric have a Team that works very hard to serve, cook, and make you feel like you are their family. The steak , shrimp, scallops, and ribs are wonderful. Let's just say that you could've gone and gotten the food they served out of the freezer at the grocery store and cooked it up at home in the air fryer. It was soggy and dry at the same time. How is that possible? Not sure:) Our server was so rude when we asked her about the wait and rolled her eyes at us. She threw my food down on the table in front of me and when I asked for the cocktail sauce that came with my shrimp she rolled her eyes at me once again. We waited for our food for over an hour and it was something that could've taken 15 minutes to make for everyone. Their excuse? They serve the people on the other side of the restaurant first because they are "fine dining"???!? Wtf does that even mean and why were we not told this before being seated? Meh...haven't been to Stubs in a number of years so thought we would give it a try. Got there early to beat the rush (5:15). Got our order in right away and the wait began. After watching the table beside us order, get their food, eat and leave, I caught our waitress and was promised ours was coming right up. Ten minutes later we had our food. First thing everyone at our table noticed was that my "Stubs" cut was smaller than my sister-in-laws regular cut. Nope - waitres assured me I had a larger cut but since it was an end cut, it just looked smaller. Second was that it was an end cut - impossible to get a medium rare end cut of prime rib. If I liked my prime rib medium, with very little pink it would have been great but that is not the case. I should have sent it back but given the given the extended wait the first time, I didn't feel like celebrating a birthday waiting for a do over. My wife's filet was similarly 1 temp over what she ordered (ordered medium, got medium well). I would suggest you order 1 temp less than you want and you should be fine - or Stubs can update their temp guide on the menu to reflect how they actually cook their meats. read more

Waited an hour and 10 min to get our entree and when I complained to the manager, he started arguing with me, never made any effort to rectify the situation He told us it was our choice to stay or leave. We left. Will NEVER go back to Stubs! read more

This place is nothing fancy, kinda like a new shed that was transformed into a nice, clean restaurant. Got there at a little after 8pm on a Thursday and the dining area was about 2/3 full Got seated and served right away but the food did take a bit longer than would be expected. Ordered the grilled chicken and ribs and that came with a nice dinner salad, choice of about 5 starches (I selected cheesy hash browns), a nice bread loaf with four different types of buns cooked together and a nice garnish of pickled apple and orange slice. The salad was good, nice variety of vegetables and they brought out a server with three different types of dressings. The ribs were very good with a nice, sweet, BBQ sauce on them. The chicken was a grilled, flattened chicken breast served on wild rice and mushrooms which were room temperature. The chicken was tender though and had good flavor. We've been coming here for years. Such a great place. The food is good (make sure you try their homemade ranch) and while it's a casual atmosphere, the food is great and the service doesn't disappoint. Check out the lounge when you go. We walked in and they turned up their noses at us. We had our kids with us and apparently, we were dressed too casually for them to take us seriously. You would think that in a tourist town such as Battle Lake, they'd be accustomed to people coming in from a day at the lake. I'm not upset that we were treated poorly, because we had dinner at The Peak Supper Club instead (they were awesome!). Stub's looks like a pole barn, so I don't know why they are so snooty. Stubs is one of our favorite restaurants! The food is always excellent. We love the steaks, halibut cheeks, and lobster chunks especially. We go there most weekends in the summer and have always have a perfect experience. Great food and service every time. Highly recommended. read more

After many times driving by the location, a group of 4 of us decided to give this place a try. They were definitely busy, which is usually a good sign of things to come so we did anticipate a longer wait to get in. Our group was able to wait in the attached lounge area which had a live piano player taking request which made for a unique atmosphere. This is the reason that the place is even getting any stars. We had waited for an hour and a half to get into the restaurant by the time we were given a table which is twice the amount of time we were told. Once we were seated, it appeared that our waitress had a rough night, as she dropped off the menus, left without taking any drink orders and was absent for a solid 10 minutes at least. The menu choices were decent with a nice selection of steak, salads and some seafood and even fresh sunfish on the menu. I have been catching and eating sunfish since I was just a little child and thought it was great to see some local type of dish on the menu, but the price was a little too high for me to give it a whirl this first time at the restaurant. I ended up deciding on the ribs and halibut cheeks. The ribs were decent. They had great flavor in the meat, but they were still a little tough, not too bad though. The sauce tasted good but had way too much on the ribs. The halibut cheeks are supposedly broiled, but the ones that I had received, looked and tasked like they were boiled. The fish was bland and way over cooked as it was even tough to chew. Another member of our group had ordered a shrimp (and crab?) salad. The shrimp was good, but the crab used was just chunks of mock crab and definitely was not very impressive or worth the price. Another weird thing was their cheesy hash browns are simply has browns with one single slice of preprocessed American cheese perfectly placed in the center which was definitely not great presentation. What I learned from our experience: the price was too spendy for the food, service was not the greatest, and I never thought that we would wait through 3 hours of dining just for a salad. read more

The bar is in serious need of a redo. But I don't spend my time there anyway, the mixed drinks are strong and poor. I am there to eat, for that it gets the 4 stars, if it was a little roomier, the waitresses a little nicer, maybe 5 stars. But I have been eating there for years and almost always the food is delicious, Personally I would recommend the steak and walleye, hash browns even with the less than sophisticated presentation of a square piece of American melted on it are good, especially with onions, my preference. Forget the sunfish as they are usually overdone, that's a fish you fry at home and enjoy not for dining out, to me anyway. The small loaf of fresh baked bread of different flavors they bring you is great, the garlic butter cup and salad are all good. The dressings are all home made and the finest you will ever have in my opinion. My favorite is the thousand island, has to be an old, old recipe. You just don't find it ever like this. Recent additions of new lettuce's in the salad are to me unwelcome, I prefer Iceberg, its what I grew up on, I don't like hard white romaine and the spinach leaves I will leave to you more sophisticated folks that are supposed to know what is good food. They even bring you a little Dove bar for desert. LOL read more
