I was a little nervous because I don't like being the center of attention, but Britt made my husband and I so comfortable in front of the camera that we didn't want the shoot to end. Britt solicited my daughter directly and asked her to be one of her "models" to help her build her business. I met with her and her daughter with my daughter and thought she was a nice mom trying to build a business. I love supporting small local businesses especially owned by women. Unfortunately I paid her $400 up front as requested for a couple of group photo sessions and her own private Sr. session with the $400 then going towards receiving some actual photos. What I got was access to a few photos online from the group sessions and that was it! I contacted Brit to see if I could get at least a partial refund as several years have now passed since the main thing I paid for - the private photo shoot and resulting photos never happened. I reached out to her several more times to see if I could at least get half of my money back- I gave her every opportunity for her to do the right thing and stand behind her small business and she refused over and over and kept my money while not providing what she had agreed to and blamed my 19 year old daughter for the shoot not happening. I had reached out to her to schedule the shoot as my daughter was going through a very difficult time her senior year but the date I suggested didn't work for her and Britt told me not to worry that she would contact her directly at college nearby and make sure it happened. That never happened and I'm out $400. The few pictures I saw online were fine but I never got what I paid for which was very disappointing. Proceed with caution if you choose to engage with her.

There is no shortage of amazing photographers on the North Shore. I met with so many talented…read morephotographers for my daughters bat mitzvah, but ultimately decided to go with Anna because I liked her personality and the albums she showed me were absolutely beautiful. I'm sure all the photographers at North Shore Photography are fabulous, but if you want Anna be sure to book way ahead and there's also an extra fee to reserve her. Throughout the planning process I knew I chose right because Anna and her office were wonderful to work with. They were super accommodating working around the synagogues schedule. We first met up with Anna last July to do a photo shoot outside at Ravinia Festival, which was where we were hosting the party. It was the most gorgeous summer day, although pretty hot. Anna worked fast in the heat to get amazing photos of my daughter and overall it was super chill and just fun. We spent a lot of time with Anna the weekend of the bat mitzvah and pretty much every member of my family remarked how much they liked her. She was super organized, got thru all the family pics so fast and just very easy to be around. She clearly does this a lot- actually i believe our synagogue photos were her 3rd shoot just that day! Anna and her assistant did a wonderful job capturing it all the night of the party. We did another round of quick family photos and then they got everything in the moment. I wasn't expecting to see pics for at least a few weeks, but had them 5 days later...and they were just perfect. She got some great family pics, shots of my daughter having the time of her life and even photos of all the little details that we created to make event extra special. I've already signed the contract to have Anna photograph my son's bar mitzvah and look forward to seeing her again!

Our photographer was an associate of Alex. Multiple times throughout the reception, he was…read moremissing/gone somewhere. We had to seek him out to be sure we got shots of some of the more important events that I wanted recorded. He sat and talked with one of my guests for at least an hour and we ended up with basically no reception shots not centered on the bridal party (which we did specifically ask for--it was a small party and it was low key, so it's not like it would have been that hard to shoot my friends and family members for an hour--especially if all he was doing was chatting and sitting around in our one-room reception hall). He also brought his son as an assistant who was not appropriately dressed and wore dark sunglasses during the indoor event. Getting in touch with Alex/the company afterwards is usually pretty hard. They take forever to get back to you either by phone or by email with helpful answers to your questions. It took a long time to get our proofs before we could even order our album, which then took quite a few months to be finished. Whether it's right or wrong, I felt like because I wasn't spending tons of money, my concerns were not as important and that they were gonna get to me when they got to me. The price is pretty typical for wedding photographers-- high. We expected that going in but were still stupidly surprised by all the costs. Also, Alex told us at an expo that he usually just throws in the disc after the event, but I guess we didn't buy enough of the really expensive individual prints for that to happen. To be fair, though, we did get the proofs in some really nice binders and a nice bag so we DO have the memories in some fashion--even if we can't reproduce them. All in all, a bit of a headache and a little irritating. But the album we received and the pics that WERE taken were beautifully done.

I hired Alex to take my wedding pictures in winter of 2008. He arrived with only one assistant, a teenage boy. The wedding was inside the Ida B Noyes Hall of the University of Chicago in the middle of winter, ample opportunity to capture the majesty of the architecture. This, however, wasn't the case. The pictures were simply awful; stiff, banal, and utterly lacking in creativity. It looked like we were posing for formal prom pictures, rather than wedding photos. In many of the bridal pictures Alex had me stand in front of a wall sconce...consequently, there is a glaring light bulb in the background. The number of photos was limited, probably because the assistant was a teenager, and the very best photograph (the one blown up and framed on our wall), was taken by a girlfriend. When it came time to order the prints, Alex would not relinquish the digital images. Are you kidding?!? I have had the opportunity to work with many photographers who take delicate, natural pictures and who always ALWAYS provided me with the digital files. All in all, barely passable. Barely.

I'm not that used to getting headshots taken (beyond the awkward passport + DMV photos) and was a little nervous at first. However, Jenny made me feel at home the second I walked into her studio. She really cared about my business, and helped me decide on poses and a wardrobe beforehand to reflect my goals (I am partially color blind so her help with picking the right clothes was essential!) She made me smile and cackle throughout the session. I felt so comfortable that I forgot there was even a camera in front of me. On top of that, her pricing is very reasonable and within my budget. She was very communicative throughout the booking/processing process and provided regular updates on the status of my pictures via email. I was over the moon with the final results and can't wait to get cracking on with my biz goals. Jenny is clearly talented with both photography and editing, but her biggest strength is her ability to make clients feel welcome and comfortable in her studio. That comfort came through in the photos she captured. My smiles and cackles were genuine. :) 5+ stars all the way. And I highly recommend Jenny to anyone looking for a photoshoot in Chicagoland!

Took Our Money and Disappeared!…read more We've hired Jenny Grimm several times before and always trusted her, which makes this experience even more upsetting. We paid her for a session over five months ago, and she completely ghosted us after the shoot. No photos, no updates, and no responses -- just silence. Meanwhile, she's still active online, posting about new clients and advertising her services, which makes it even worse. At this point, it feels like she took our money and ran. After years of being repeat customers, this is beyond disappointing -- it's dishonest. Please think twice before booking with her. There are plenty of other photographers who actually deliver what you pay for.
