I called STS ahead of time and specifically asked if they could perform a New York State inspection on my 1995 Ford F-150. I was told yes and was invited to come right over. After I drove there, the employee checked with the manager and then came back saying their inspection machine was suddenly "broken" and they couldn't inspect my truck. The employee also told me, "It was working before. I don't know what happened. Somebody needs to come and fix the machine." If the machine wasn't working, that should have been mentioned on the phone before I made the trip. The whole experience left me feeling like they simply didn't want to do the inspection because it's only a $10 safety inspection for vehicles over 25 years old. I can't prove that's what happened, but that's honestly the impression I was left with after wasting my time and fuel driving there. I would've appreciated honesty and a quick phone call rather than being told to come in only to be turned away. read more

Drive to three tire stores, finally found one that said they could fix my leak I. A few minutes. They said my car was ready, so I went to the car and the technician was still in my car, he said sorry for taking so long, I was try to clear the dash, it still show low air pressure. He then said I need to drive 10 miles before it clears. Didn't trust what he said so I went to a gas station to put air in the tire that they had fixed, and sure enough the dash was cleared. I'm a older women and figured that out. Not sure why the kid who does this couldn't figure that out. read more

Stay Away. I made online appoint for state inspection, for 8:AM on a Thursday. The woman who manages the front desk called me on Wednesday to confirm. When I showed up at 8AM on Thursday she tells me that her inspection guy does not get in until 12PM and I have to leave the car. When I questioned why she confirmed the time with me for 8AM if he doesn't come in until 12pm, she then very nastily asked "who confirmed that?" when I tell her that she did, she then changed the story to "he had an emergency". All of this with a very poor demeanor, very unprofessional, very accusatory as if I did something wrong by expecting to receive service at my confirmed appointment time. I will never go back here. I have brought my car in for regular oil changes/brakes/tires for last 3 years. The staff is completely different. Went for an oil change and battery swap and they completely screwed me. The broke hoses connected to my engine in order to take out the battery. I left with a check engine light on that wasn't there before. They never replaced any of the rivets back under the hood so the plastic parts are moving around. I can't believe the lack of care and concern from a business. Especially after I just spent over 1k to fix my car. They caused more damage than when I brought it in. STAY AWAY! Joe & his team are godsends to me. They have been so helpful and honest. And I can't think of anyone I would ever recommend besides them. They helped me out when I needed my brakes checked after I went to a place in Maspeth that tried to charge me $1000, claiming a bunch of crap needed to be replaced. When I told that dude that I couldn't afford that, I picked up the car and drove two days, very anxiously, because my brakes were very inconsistent. When I brought my car to STS, they found that the work the other guy was trying to get me for didn't exist, but that they suspect he had put motor oil in my brake line (instead of break fluid) when I wouldn't pay the $1000. It ruined my master cylinder thing (i know nothing about cars, but it was a very bad thing, i could've died!). STS worked hard and fast, helped me with my warranty and when a light came on about 3 days after I got the car back, they quickly resolved that issue (that had nothing to do with them, mind you, they were just kind enough to do a quick fix). They also helped me get a tow truck when I was struck by a 17yo kid in Huntington, I had no contacts except them. They got me a trustworthy guy to come tow me when the cops were zero help. I will drive to them for everything, sorry in advance to the team, but you are officially my go-to for all things that seem strange. :) Side note: the mall behind them is very boring and doesn't have a movie theater, obviously no fault of theirs but dave and busters isn't fun anymore. read more

I had gotten a nail in my brand new Nitto Terragrappler G2. It was after 5PM & my usual tire shop was closed so I called & asked if they could PATCH my tire. I was told over the phone that this would be no problem & was reassured again when I walked in. Tell me how 32 minutes later I drove out of there with the sloppiest plug ever? Who plugs a brand new tire? After it was all said and done I expressed this and was informed that they "no longer patch tires" & that "this would be fine." It is not what I wanted. It won't let me click on 0 stars....I'll keep the one star for the previous work they have done and now have lost a customer for life. This is my first yelp review because I have never been so disappointed in management both at the store and regional level. On May 4th, I paid for $900 of necessary work to pass my car (in driving condition) for inspection and as a work truck I was looking to keep it on the road for a year so it was reasonable. May 5th the car didn't start.... They took it back promising to find the issue. After calling weekly, on June 4th... yes a month later... my call was transferred to new store manager, Adam, who said pick up your car. It needs a catalytic converter and we don't do that work here. I felt before picking my car up I should hear from his boss as to why it took a month to figure out what was wrong with my vehicle.... after 3 weeks of lovely customer service reps promising me the moon (ie. refund, repairing car at their location nearby, or a SIMPLE CALL from the regional manager), I one day called to find out my ticket was closed by the regional manager. The only apology I got was that they didn't call me to tell me he closed the ticket. Finally I ran out of patience and I demanded to speak to Michael. He got on the phone after 45 minutes. He argued with me as he did not know the story from me only from the new store manager whom I never met. He gave me a partial refund after an hour of arguing ..... the refund of $300 was on the basis that my car is in working condition and he wants me to pick it up. I hung up the phone, not content, but ready to move on from this 2 month lack of customer service. Here is the icing on the cake. My car DID NOT start. Nicole, the service rep jumped it. (The manager and workers not making eye contact with me). I entered my car to notice work boots missing(stolen). As I drove down sunrise highway in rush hour, the car stopped... I couldn't even put my 2-ways on. I called the store in a panic. Guess who came into the middle of traffic to jump my car and follow me home as my car felt like it was going to explode? The only valuable employee, Nicole... I called corporate one last time traumatized by the events. No answer. A message will be left for Michael. As usually the oh so sweet customer service rep told me how horrible of a day I had and she sure does hope it got better... I am sure I will hear not a response back. I will donate my car . Don't bring your car here. Went here for years because it was so convenient, but seems Mavis is now in the habit of moving people around and the people I knew are no longer there. Don't want to get into a lot of detail, but was told the noise in the rear I asked them to look into was my tires. Just noisy tires they said. Turned out it was a bad bearing in the rear wheel, as diagnosed and proven by a real mechanic I subsequently brought the car to. They're not really mechanics here, they're hacks. Unfortunately I purchase tires less than a year for my Mercedes, at first when I purchase had a good customer service, one of my tires was defective and came back and a lady who apparently is the manager has poor customer service, never willing to help and bad attitude, not sure how she working there, unfortunately I had to call because one tired broke and less than a year she said had no warranty, mean while on the phone the call center told me different, they even match the price I purchase at the beginning but again this lady very unhelpful, unprofessional. For some reason the times I have come and dealt with her is always an issue, this time was the system out of service and wanted me to go to a mavis near by mean while I was driving with my spare tire. I decided to call and she end up calling as soon as she saw me making the call and out of the sudden she was able to see my information from one tired that was 114 turn out yo be 150 and no warranty. read more

Ok I came back for another routine oil change and to get the tires rotated. This time my experience was much better then the last. This time there was a different individual working the desk. He was polite and attentive. He also was quick to advise me of a possible wait time as they had to order the needed oil filter because they had ran out of the size filter my vehicle requires. The time ended being less then 10 minutes. The lead mechanic , Frank M. also advised me of the need for new tires but did not pressure me in an impulse purchase. It is good to know that my previous experience was just by chance because of a moody employee. I recommend this location for it's knowledgable staff. read more

I live around the corner so go here fairly often, and STS really screwed me over this time! I got 4 new tires and an oil change. Now the car is moving extremely sluggishly and idling roughly. I need my car, and paid their ridiculous prices because I just wanted them to take care of the problem. Now I have to take it back and my engines experiencing lots of unnecessary damage because they can't do an oil change correctly. On top of that I had brought the car in at 10AM, and they didn't call me until 15 minutes before the shop closed so I had to leave it there overnight. I went here after my dealership told me I needed a new tire pressure sensor. Spoke to Joe who was incredibly helpful. After dropping off my car, I got a phone call a couple of hours later saying they found nothing wrong. The tire pressure sensor was loose and all they had to do was tighten it. Needed a new tire because the GCP is like driving on the moon. Hit a monstrous hole in the highway on a rainy night which immediately developed a bubble in the wall of my two year old Pirelli tires. I'm new to Wantagh and wasn't sure where to go. I trust the STS name so I went there. I told the guy up front the story, checked out the tire and looked it up on his database. He looked at me and said we don't have it. Then continued to stare at me. I was waiting for a"but" (example of acceptable responses): We can get it in tomorrow, or there's another STS In such and such and they have it, or sorry try another tire shop. No, just stared at me. So, I said can you order it? He said, "yes." And I thought....ok. Next he bluntly asked for a credit card. I gave it to him.... waiting to hear the cost. The cost never came. I asked, what's the cost? He responded. So, if I haven't bored you yet with details, customer service is not an acquired or innate skill at this establishment. They were able to get the tire in the next morning. Long story short. I never took my wheels off before and had no idea where the wheel lock kit was, a pleasant woman called me asking, and was able to figure out. I came back and they changed the tire on my car and checked my struts for me. I was all set but weird initial experience but really what is there to expect? Ive been to other mechanics that will flat out lie to you just so they can get you to spend more money and will take advantage of me since im a young female. Disappointing. Show up early for appointment to have 4 new tires installed (would you believe I got a flat on the way -- unreal!l) and in the first minute I'm there, I'm upsold for alignment. How that is not offered upfront online is beyond me. I'm already paying $100 more for the install here than up the road at Costco (they apparently won't hold a tire for you; first come first serve) and ask if he can do it all for $800 instead of $747 (they asked $65 for alignment, my ask put it at $53) and he says he can't go that low. Can't go $12 lower when I'm overpaying by $100?!? I hate auto shops! read more

Went here for an oil change. It was about 5:30pm, 30 minutes left to closing. The place looked dead to me. Only 1 car was on the lift and I saw at least 2 mechanics plus a manager. The manager told me he couldn't do it because it was too close to closing time. That he had plans at 6 o'clock with a relative. lame excuse. Why don't you change your hours to close at 5:30pm then? Went back the next day in the morning. Was told it would take over an hour...for an oil change?!? I'll go somewhere else and remember that when I need tires or other services. No appointment needed for car inspection and it was quick. However, you need to change all your wipers, make sure all the required light are on, and brakes are good BEFORE you walk in. those are safety items and they will fail your inspection unless you fix it there and it will be expensive. read more

We had the worst experience here today, by Joe the manager! We called and asked if they did inspections, they said yes and we asked if we could be taken right away, they said yes we can and we drove over (5 min). We came in parked the car, waited after waiting 40 minutes (I have the time time stamp from my phone), they still hasn't taken our car in. Joe then tried to lie some more and say, we told you it would be an hour, no but I said you can get me out in 20 minutes? He said if nothing is not wrong with the car. If their was a zero star that's what I would rate my experience here. I bought four new tires from the manager Joe Reiners. First all the sensors in the tires were programmed to the wrong tires I found this out cause I had a very slow leak from one tire. I bought it back to them twice more. They tell me they can't find the leak. How hard could this be its tires not doing surgery here!!!! I'll buy a tire elsewhere and get my money back through court. Can you please tell me why an oil change and tire rotation takes 2 hours and 17 minutes when I was the only car there? I wish this was particular to one location. I have taken my car to STS in Hicksville, NY it always takes 2 hours for a oil change so I refused to go there again. Just went to the Sunrise Mall STS in Massapequa...TWO HOURS!!! This is completely unacceptable. I was the only customer there!!! I only saw the mechanic every 20 minutes when he told more 15 more min....well that turned in to two hours. Do not take you car here! Took my car for a simple inspection and tire rotation. Got my car home parked it the next day had to go to work and my tire was completely flat. After calling sts back all I got was attitude and that I probably had a nail in it. Inspecting my tire I found out that my tire valve had a leak. I called sts back and they told me they never touched my tire. After asking if they check the air pressure they then tell me they might have done something wrong. I don't know what mechanic would send a person out of there shop with a dangerous leak that they caused themselves. I will never take any of my cars there again. read more

Took my car for inspection 2 days ago and they told me it failed and the car needed $980 for rear brakes, drums, and 4 new tires. The tires are only 4 or 5 years old and visually look almost new. The rear brakes were also replaced 4 or 5 years ago and the car only travels less than 4k miles a year, so I didn't trust the manager. Took it to a different mechanic and it passed inspection. $980+tax saved read more
