As others have said below, Martin presents as knowledgeable and straightforward, but actually misses about 99% of the things actually wrong with your home. Go with someone who will: enter your crawlspace or attic; climb up on your roof; do anything beyond a cursory glance at anything else. Although Martin and his team have a good reputation it only take one HUGE Miss to cost you thousands and that is what happened when they did my home inspection. They claimed my pipes were in working order, but two weeks later after closing on the home I found all my pipes were completely corroded and leaking water all over. They claimed it "must have happened after the inspection". Their customer service was horrible as they refunded me a partial amount of my inspection fee while I had to pay thousands to replace my pipes. I would stay away from this organization. read more

martin inspected a home my wife bought out in Pinckney. He missed some major stuff that cost us around $8,000. Didn't bother to look up when he looked in the crawl space. Right above the opening! no need to go under the house to see it. Missed the missing floor joist and signs of flooding. He also missed that the roof had multiple layers of decking. Roofers saw it right away and charged us to re-deck. Realtor fired him and we won't be recommending him eithe. read more

Let me start off with, Martin is a "nice guy". That's about as far as anything positive goes. As a previous reviewer said, they felt rushed, so did I. They are in and out in a very short time. This was a large home, and they had no interest in spending the time doing the job I paid them for. Be warned, their report can be very vague with the language it uses. When I addressed my concerns with Martin, he pointed me to this vague language. It seems to be his "out". It's obvious that he knew they missed the items I've discovered, but he will never take ownership. I found a smoke detector that was completely dead. His report says, "The installation of new smoke detectors inside sleeping areas is recommended.", but no reference to that one is completely dead. Obviously, a clear safety issue that should have been notated. It's also apparent that he never even looked at them as his report also says, "It is highly recommended that a carbon monoxide detector is installed within the home". These are dual detectors that are installed (co2 / smoke). Had he got on a ladder and tested, he would have seen this. They are supposed to check all your plumbing. Had they done this they would have noticed that the "control screen" on the jetted tub is non-functioning. ($300 repair with installation) Also, if they had checked the showers (plumbing) they would have noticed that one of the shower doors doesn't operate properly. Shower was framed incorrectly, and the door doesn't shut. (Still waiting on repair) This should have been noticed and notated. They said they checked all furnaces / AC units. Ironically the one unit that is "zoned" functions, but the "zones" don't open and close. Again, had they inspected, this would have been clearly in their report saving me a $1000 repair. I was given Martin's name from a very prominent, hi-end realtor in Birmingham. I've learned my lesson. Make sure you do your research before hiring someone. Talk to many of their previous clients. Make sure you are present when they do their inspection and hold them to their responsibilities. Martin will reply that "everything I have stated in my review" was listed in his report. Really, If that was the case, I would have clearly addressed this before purchasing the property and would have been posting a positive review about him, and the defects he discovered. I have his report, He is well aware that none of this is listed in his report. Just "pre-filled" language to make his report look professional. read more

We have used Structure & Site Inspection Services twice this year, and in both cases their services far exceeded expectations. Through, knowledgeable, intelligent and obviously competent. Do yourself a favor and spend time with them while they do the inspection. Martin is a gifted teacher. Highly recommended. read more

I guess I should start with the positive - their contract for services went into great detail on those items for which they were not responsible. They were prompt in getting the inspection completed quickly (red flag one). Unfortunately, we discovered what we really got was "inspection light" as remodeling on the house revealed issues that should have been caught by the inspector. Perhaps a tight schedule of appointments made them rush through but the remodeling process by professionals called out the inspector's failure to see obvious issues. read more

Martin and an apprentice conducted an inspection of our home just over a year ago. They missed significant repairs, including but not limited to a major water intrusion in the basement that was shifting the interior wall, a boiler that had to be replaced 3 months after move-in because it leaked water when it ran, a fireplace/chimney that required a flu liner and masonry work to stop water from leaking in the ceiling, a cracked boiler flu that was so bad that an emergency repair was required to prevent leaking carbon monoxide into our home. And that's just the major stuff. All told, we are looking at 20k in repairs just to get back to working condition. All of these issues were easily visible or easily discoverable during the inspection. The final report wasn't worth the paper it was printed on. Buyer beware. read more

Martin and his team at Structure & Site did VERY thorough work on our inspection and in the final report. We paid for the Premier Inspection and it was worth every dime. The information he gave us both during the inspection and in the report was incredibly helpful, well-organized, and easy to understand. We feel very assured in having chosen Structure & Site to complete our inspection. It can be a little nerve-wracking to rely on one person's opinion for the entirety of your new house, but I would choose to have Martin do our inspection again every time. We'll definitely be passing his name along to anyone who's looking for an inspector. read more

Please think twice about using this company, you will be very disappointed; Martin assured us he would not test the AC because it is very cold outside and it was obvious that they did try it anyway. He told the buyers that the heating system was not working and he never realized that the air handler was just designed for A/C, not heat. He closed the flu in the fireplace which had never been closed in all the years we have lived there causing significant smoke damage the next time we had a fire. Martin inspected the home we bought as well as the home we were selling. On the home we were selling he stated the furnace had not properly been maintained and that it needed a new chimney liner. There is a UL approved vent adaptor which is to code that he failed to visualize. The furnace was installed 8 months prior to his inspection so we are not sure what was not "maintained" on a brand new furnace. He discovered a small patch of mold and then offered his services for $1500 to remediate it. I received 3 estimates from companies all with the same certification as he claims that were no higher than $400. On the new home he failed to note that the garbage disposal was cracked and had been leaking for some time, destroying the cabinet under the sink. Both furnaces have since been inspected and we have been told that the filter on one of them looks to have never been changed. Surprisingly he missed that "maintenance" issue. He does not do a thorough job and is rude when questioned about his findings. I would never recommend him. read more
