We purchased a new home and found several large cracks in the slab when we started pulling out the flooring which had us pretty concerned. I reached out to a couple of structural engineers and construction companies but had a difficult time getting someone to come out to talk to us and look at the cracks. After a few days of searching I found Elliott on Yelp and he was able to come out the following day to meet with us which was such a relief and so appreciated. As a homeowner and DIYer I wanted to remove some walls in my home for an open concept. I began knocking down some walls to the best of my knowledge. Unfortunately I knocked down a wall I wasn't supposed to and the ceiling began to slightly sag. I needed to fix this as soon as possible and in addition also had many questions about other walls. This setback put me at a standstill on the project, so I knew that my best option was to find a structural engineer. I found Eui (Elliot) on Yelp and gave him a call that afternoon. He immediately answered and was very professional. We agreed for him to come over the following morning. I was hesitant about hiring someone to help me with this problem since I do most of my home renovations myself, but, this time I decided this was beyond my circle of competence. He came promptly the next morning and did a house walkthrough. I had 2 walls I wanted to remove and the one I had removed that I shouldn't have. He took some pictures, measured the space, and took a look at the attic from different areas. Needless to say I did remove a wall that was a structural support, but he gave various solutions on how to fix it, and even helped me put up a temporary post (which was very generous of him to extend this sort of help). I was completely grateful. In addition, he also gave me answers and alternatives for options regarding the other two walls on another side of the house. Overall, he probably spent around 2 hours or so, answering my questions, making important call outs, and surveying the attic/roof. He emailed me the same day with an initial breakdown for some possible solutions. I even received some areal shots of the roof that he took with a drone. Needless to say, within in 24hrs I had an understanding of my home's structure and knew what direction to take going forward. If you find yourself questioning some of your DIY decisions that might affect your building's structure, it's better to be safe than sorry, and to contact a professional as soon as possible. I was definitely out at ease once I received his consultation, and was able to move forward with the rest of my renovation. His consultation service was worth every penny! He also provides more extensive planning services, so really depends on your project scale, experience, and comfort level to determine how much more info/resources you may need. Very thankful to come across Mr. Kim on Yelp! We've had a bulge issue on the side of our home for many years and even hired a random structural engineer once who did nothing but measure the inside of the home and said it was safe. terrible waste of money. Mr. Kim was very responsive when I called him and he was able to provide an assessment all online with the pictures I sent to him. We recently acquired a home in CA and had an electrician/contractor out to look at the electric panel. He pointed out a place where the foundation had a large crack and told us that we should have a structural engineer determine if it needed more serious repair. I found Elliot (Eui Kim) on yelp and thought he was located closer to my town due to his phone #. He is licensed in CA, OR & WA and while he is not located closeby, he very graciously emailed/asked what the problem was? I explained/emailed the situation and again, he offered help if I could sent several photos of the area along with my address so he could look on google earth. Mind you, Elliot was helping me at 10 pm on a friday nite. I was so appreciative of his diligence to see if I had a structural problem he could resolve even though he was not going to receive payment for his time. After reviewing the photos and short video my husband took, Elliot felt the foundation area had cracked due to lack of reinforcement with rebar when the house was built (where the garage floor met the house wall) but that I did not need to seek a more costly repair. I am so grateful I found Elliot (Eui Kim) on Yelp, I gave him a call. He was very responsive, he asked me to email him the pictures with the problem of the retaining wall. He replied to my email promptly. It is all based on the pictures which I emailed to him, he could immediately answer and was very professional and told me the existing problems. He asked me if I have the drawing of the retaining wall, but I don't have it. Therefore, in this situation, he told me that unless the retaining wall is cut open for certain feet, it wouldn't be able to know exactly what needs to be done. At this point, most likely the retaining wall need to be tear down and re-do. Even though I invited Elliot to come over to take a look, he told me that it would be the exact same thing which he told me over the phone. Unlike other structure engineers, Elliot is a very honest engineer, he could just like the other money-hungry engineer requested to come over to take a look and charge me the inspection fees, and just give me a brief suggestion. Elliot is very patient and very nice, he gave me answers and the best alternatives and options to help me solve the problem temporary, it definitely helped a lot, so I could spend the money wisely.
