I started working with Garnett in the end of July. I was having minor health issues primarily related to the heart and other anxiety/stress related issues and I noticed I was getting ridiculously huge, and not in a good way. One day I looked in the mirror disappointed in myself and noticed I needed a change in my life. Thankfully, I was referred to Garnett and I don't regret the decision at all.
From the first day we spoke, I told him what I hoped to accomplish and what my health issues were. He was very understanding and gave me the confidence I needed to know that although it'll be a long road ahead of me, that we will reach my goals.
The first session we took my basic measurements and checked my body fat percentage and we started to train. It's been years since I had a workout like that because working long hours in an office environment and being sedentary, you easily become lazy and unmotivated. I was horribly stiff and we worked on some basic stretches to help with movement. Garnett is also trained in Muay Thai and will incorporate this in your training regiment as well.
When you go to the gym by yourself, as I used to back in my college days, you tend to do the same tired exercises. I can honestly say I have rarely done the same exercise twice, and there are always variations of the same exercise we do as I regain my strength and flexibility. Garnett is very keen on form and will let you know when you're not doing an exercise properly and will stop you to correct you. Other trainers that I have worked with don't go into the level of detail that Garnett does in regards to form, which I appreciate. He also explains why a certain exercise needs proper form and what muscles we're trying to target, which is very helpful and things I wouldn't realize if he didn't mention it to me.
As we all know, exercising is only half the battle. The other half is eating properly. Garnett always asks to text him the foods you're eating and will let you know which foods to avoid and how much to eat. Sometimes I get portions to big due to eating out for lunch, and Garnett will let you know to split the food into smaller portions and eat the rest later on in the day. I have had some setbacks, but overall I've done well with Garnett's help. I've started to become more aware of what I eat when I dine, I've cut carbs in the evening and appreciate eating healthier now. My one vice has been drinking, but ever since I've been training with Garnett, I haven't had the desire to drink when I hang out with buddies, mainly because I've seen my beer belly shrinking!
Garnett will not overexert you in training and he will get on you when you're slacking in your session with him, as I have before! It's encouraging to know that someone cares about your health and pushes you in each session to do a bit more than the last session because as a result you want to push yourself as well. I can proudly say that I have cut around 20 pounds (I'm 5'8'' and was 215lbs when I started) and looking forward to gaining the definition, flexibility and mobility that I haven't had in a little over a decade. I thank Garnett and his hard work in getting me to where I am now, and although there's still a long road ahead, I'm confident with his help I can attain my goals. If you're looking for a personal trainer, I would definitely recommend training with Garnett. read more
