You know the feeling. You're on the road, you've been driving for miles and miles, and you feel greasy and exhausted from lack of movement and the steady diet of either fast or fried food that's an inevitable part of road trip eating. This, my friends, is why the Stripes in Schulenburg is a veritable oasis in every road trip warrior's sights. Because Stripes has - get this - a fabulous FRESH FRUIT BAR (they call it a "fruitateria") that is sure to put a spring in your step and refresh even the most road-weary traveler. This stunning array of goodness features fresh strawberries, both green and purple grapes, oranges (cut into luscious, rindless, bite-sized chunks - and these are fresh, not that canned or jarred stuff), grapefruit (ditto), honeydew, cantaloupe, watermelon, apple, pineapple, MANGO (yes, FRESH MANGO), maraschino cherries, and probably other selections that my overjoyed, overwhelmed brain failed to comprehend. But wait...there's more. You get to prepare your own mix, so no lame pre-mixed combo filled with the cheap stuff that you don't really like anyway. A large 16 oz cup costs TWO DOLLARS. An extra large cup? Three dollars. A similar sized fresh fruit cup would cost upwards of 3-4 times that amount at Whole Foods or Central Market - and you wouldn't get to choose your own mix (and it sure as hell would not include fresh mango. Did I mention that they had fresh mango?) Deal of the century, people. If you ever find yourself tooling about in Schulenburg, be sure and stop by Stripes for the fresh fruit ride of your life. read more

This was a clean and well lit gas station just off of I-10 on a late night run to Austin from Houston, we made a quick stop to refill the tank, grab some drinks and snacks and then we were back on the road. The staff was friendly even though it was late at night. read more

Worst gas station in Schulenburg. Literally pick ANY other one to go to. The tacos are dry and nasty, the parking lot has trash all over it, the workers talk on their cell phones (or friends in person) while ringing you up, twice their registers have rung up the wrong price than what the items were marked as. Please. Just go to Pilot or take a few extra minutes to go to the Shorthorn Store. read more

Yep, that's right: 5 starrin' a gas station. And I mean it. If you are ever making the long, lonely trek from San Antonio or Austin to Houston (or the reverse direction) this is where you want to stop if it's an early morning. It's easy to get to from the highway, from either direction, and easy to get back on. There are gas pumps a-plenty. The bathrooms are clean (and have Dyson hand dryers-- fancy!). The real reason, though, is that they serve the Laredo Taco Company breakfast tacos that I love. Fresh tortillas + big scoop of deliciousness in the middle = heaven. Plus, they start serving them early in the morning-- they're slinging tacos by 6 am, and possibly earlier (luckily, I haven't had to test that yet). read more

you have got to be the most laziest person on this god forsaken earth if you cant make a pot of coffee. wow!!!!!! i asked this guy to make a fresh pot. and guess what he says???? it holds for 8 hours she made t at 6 lol dude its 12:10 and the coffee thats in there is low. its not even showing on the sight glass!! if youre reading this mr slim with big glasses that dont fit your face and a gut to show exactly what type of person you are.go get a job some where other than stripes. read more

This is one of the cleanest gas stations you will ever find along I-10. I frequent this place because of my SO's family, so trust me on this. Like mentioned on a previous review, this place has fresh fruit, someone who can make awesome food for you and the employees are so nice! This is the only gas station I'm comfortable to go to during a midnight drive. read more

I would never go here again, I do want to say it was not the clerks fault, she was great. It's that they charged $10.99 for a kids Tylenol when I later found the same thing up the street for $4 less at Buc Cee's, what a rip off and they won't let you return it either read more

On Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, we stopped at Stripes on our trip to Houston from San Antonio. The bathroom smelled and there was soap on one of the three soap dispensers. Today, Aug. 29, 2010, we stopped again. There was no soap in any dispenser and the bathrooms smelled even worse. The worst part was that one of the kitchen employees was using the facilities and only rinsed his hands with water, did dry them and back to the kitchen. I brought this to the attention of the cashier and she gave me an attitude. She dismissed everything I had to say. Then, I told a gentlemen worker that was adding ice to the cooler where they have beer. He thanked me for the information and said he appreciated me bringing this matter to his attention. We stop at Stripes every time we travel to Houston from San Antonio. This is our half way point. We are ticket holders for the Houston Texans. This is the first time I have experienced a filthy place and even worse, a kitchen worker not washing their hands. read more
