You can't really drive through to get a michelada with beer inside... but you can drive through to get a Clamato Preparado with a beer ON the side. So I bought one of those suckers ($8?) and was about to drive off when something caught my eye. Smirnoff Preparada. What the heck? Turns out an SP is a 20 oz smirnoff icce, with gummy bears, chamoy and chile inside the beverage. Then on TOP of the beverage, more gummy bears, chamoy and chile. Obviously I had to get one. It tasted like sh... nothing good but the gummy bear chamoy concoction on top was delicious. All of these things are an acquired taste of course so feel free to experience this madness on your own.

They had a special for two tacos and a 64 oz drink, and I found just the one taco to be quite filling. They ran out of the filling I wanted, so I was offered half of one and half of another filling. I highly recommend this combination! Chicken and grilled onions and peppers filled my warmed flour tortilla wrap. These aren't the best tacos I've ever had, but they're a quick and "hand"y meal for your road trip. I'd pick these any day over Slim Jim's and beef jerky. And, they are only to be found at your local Stripes gas station.

Murphy Gas is located at the NE corner of Hwy 281 (I-69-C) and Canton in front of Harbor Frieght and across Canton Road from the Walmart Supercenter. The clerks here are usually efficient, occasionally friendly. The premises are well maintained and landscaped. No bathrooms. Other than that, in spite of being a regular customer, there's not much else to say.

This teeny three aisle convenience store keeps a variety of familiar Filipino grocery items, snacks, and other Asian sundries. The nice lady working there, originally from Torrance, CA (I remembered), told us that Cabalen is open for breakfast and lunch only and pointed us in the right direction towards another Filipino restaurant nearby that was open for dinner. We got a couple of things from Tindahan to snack on for later back at the hotel before moving on to our dinner destination...

I have been shorted on my medication and the pharmacists were rude and unhelpful, asserting that they count everything twice (even though my bf saw that "counting" meant sweeping big palm-fuls of pills across the counter) and that their inventory was correct. The pharmacist didn't call me back when she said she would after I asked (very nicely, I promise) that they count again. Shifty characters there, so count your pills before you leave!

The Cool Spot was so cool that it was a drive in convenience store where you could buy a 32oz corona, dressed with salt and lime, with the top partially off as they weren't allowed to "open" it for you. Note: This was before the days of open containers so your passenger would hang out, drinking corona as you foamed at the mouth watching the frosty brew disappear at lightning speed. Little did I know that 10 years later, in McAllen, TX, I'd find the same amazingness. Now, I didnt test the corona/dressed thing, but I was able to get the BEST Michelada. You drive in, ask for a Clamato Preparada and they take clamato and sprinkle fairy dust in it (prob lime, salt, chile.) Then you get a beer to go with it that's not open and drive off. I ordered two of these lovely 32 oz cups of deliciousness, a tecate and my total cost was $10. It was like a fantasy... if your fantasies involve well made micheladas (and mine do.)
