I would classify myself (when I started) as an beginner/intermediate electric guitar player looking to take it up a notch in terms of soloing and improv. I had taken lessons from elsewhere 8 years prior but hadn't done much since then. I didn't want to take lessons from a guitar shop and get a random teacher because I'd had mixed results with those places. After some internet searching, Alan's bio popped up and he seemed interesting. He's got a background in both Classical and electric guitar, and he went to collage specifically to learn how to teach. My 6 months learning from Alan have been great. Some key points to bring up: * He's got a plan: Previous instructors didn't seem like they put any thought into my progression but rather would say things like "What do you want to work on today". I need structure and a plan to make progress. * He's big on form and fundamentals: Previous instructors didn't correct little form issues when I was playing. Alan points them out and had me correct my form from day 1. Those fixes have helped me long term. Other instructors didn't stress form very much. * He's big on having you read music: If you're learning electric guitar, other teachers will likely just have you read tab. While Alan certainly uses plenty of tab, you are encouraged to read music as well. This is a major plus. * He's ok with dabbling in multiple styles: When I started, I was just playing electric guitar/blues. Then I showed an interest in classical guitar and we spent some time at the end of our lessons playing his nylon stringed classical guitar. I liked it so much I'm exclusively playing classical music. I really appreciated the exposure to multiple styles. * He makes it fun and low pressure: I have a job, kids and limited time. I'm not going to progress as fast as a teenager. He mixes form drills and lessons with songs to keep it fresh while advancing my knowledge. And when I slack off a week I never leave feeling like he was disappointed. His prices are very standard for private lessons, but I feel like you get more than your money's worth. His studio at his house is comfortable and private for those that are self conscious. Can't recommend enough.

He is a very talented and knowledgeable teacher, however he was pushy, and pressured me to do…read morelessons, every week when my schedule wouldn't allow it. I felt obligated to go to lessons when I couldn't, and he gave me the message that I "need to be more consistent". I went every two weeks, however when school began, and I couldn't go to my lessons anymore my guitar material songs on Google Drive were deleted in "retaliation".

Tried to claim it added character…read more When I asked what they were going to do they said I needed to pay for the repair before I could talk to a manager. I refused. I ended up talking to the manager, the owner, and the head of the repairs. Each one said there was nothing they could do. I told them I wasn't going to pay for them marring my sax. They finally waved the fee after 3 visits and about 2 hours in the store. FYI: I took the sax to another repair place and found out that Boomer had not even fixed the leak. (Edit to address Boomer's response) The Business Owner's reply shows exactly the horrible service that you will receive at Boomer's. Nothing in the reply is true. Just lies and abusive remarks towards me just like during my extended attempts to get them to repair the damage they did to my sax. The manager seems to think it's fine for their shop to damage a customer's instrument, not fix it, and still get paid for a tune up that never happened. "he requested his work be done ahead of the estimated time frame and was accommodated by the technician" - This is a lie. I never requested the repair be done ahead of schedule. The tech said he would get right on it and then he let it sit on his bench. My repair was NEVER pushed ahead. But please prove me wrong and post the date that the sax was dropped of and the date that it was returned to me. Everyone will see that I did not receive any accommodation. "occurred exactly during the technician's lunch break even though the customer had been made aware that the technician would not be on site." This is another lie since I went to pick up my sax on Saturday and the tech was not there. On my subsequent visit the tech was in the store and even on the floor but refused to speak to me. "He was VERY unhappy and offered no reasonable solution for the situation." I was very unhappy but I asked for the store to repair the damage. They refused citing that it would cost too much. I was the one that stated I would drop the demand if they waved the fee, not them. "the repair had been completed as requested" 4th lie. The sax still leaked quite a bit and I had to take it to Longmont to get the work done correctly. "The customer has not returned to the store since 2022" - This is the only true thing the Business Owner has said. This was the single worst customer service failure I have ever experienced in my life. I will NEVER use Boomer for sales or service. I will drive 40 miles to Greeley or Longmont for professional work. As for why I chose now to add this review, well it's because I saw another truthful and very negative review of Boomer and I wanted to let those potential customers know that exactly how bad their service could be.

Disappointing experience. I needed a short term upright bass rental for practice purposes as I…read moredon't currently own one and the gig has one on site (that is extremely playable and well setup up which I found to not be the case for the 2 rental instruments I tried. First one turned out to have ancient strings and a bent bridge in addition to a sky-high nut. The fingerboard also ramped up making it unplayable in thumb position on the G string.(it also had a large hole patched and they still wanted $2k for it). Took it back for a more playable bass. Exchange was easy and the woman who helped was great (thank you!). Went home and tuned up and the tailpiece wire let loose. Took it back and they replaced the tail piece wire. Took it home again and found the nut also sky-high making f, Bb, Eb unnecessarily uncomfortable to play. (I cannot believe they don't bother to cut the nuts (10 minute process) and instead send these out to students). There is no reason for playing action not to be set well (especially for students). Bass is a physical instrument, but doesn't need to be anywhere near as physical as theirs were. I've played for years and while I can play stupid high action, there is no need to when the fix is so easy. Took it back. Trip 4. Frustrated with this being my fourth trip and having spent more time driving/standing in the store than actually playing the bass, I explained the situation. Peter was rude and rather than apologize for the runaround and offer a solution, he told me that since I'd done a quick run through prior to leaving the store, that I'd 'approved' the instrument. This was a surprising and pathetic response. Yes, I checked out the instrument briefly so I could sign off on the rental sheet. I don't appreciate the insulting tone nor implication. Since my goal was to get home and practice (and get back to work as I have to go on a lunch break as the store closes before my work day ends) I'd done a quick check and signed off. (the second bass was better, but as I found when I got home it was tuned down about a full step (from sitting) so it played more easily than when in regular tuning. I told him I wanted my rental fee back for the trouble as he hadn't offered a fix etc. It'd been a week and now 4 trips to the store and I was more than frustrated with the situation. Again, no apology or even feigned concern. Just accusatory, pathetic posturing. He told me the owner would be in contact. Owner has not been in contact and I don't have a refund. They hide behind their rental agreement which indicates no credit for partial months (which in any other case where maybe you'd rented an instrument for a number of months it wouldn't be a big issue). In this case it was an issue as I hadn't had a satisfyingly setup instrument to play. Unfortunately for Fort Collins, they are the only local option around. So they can get away with their exorbitant prices on their rentals. The second bass, which was a also a (used) white labeled laminate import bass was $3500. That's at least $1k over the standard (new) price of the same instrument elsewhere. They do the same thing with saxes as a (used) student model I rented briefly was priced over the cost of a new one. Over the years I've spent probably over 1000 bucks on cymbals, books, strings, accessories, etc. I won't be back. I won't recommend anyone waste their time/money at boomer. If you have a student in need of a rental, make the drive up to Denver (maybe even Greeley).
