Brief Summary: This is a predatory Orlando business targeting travelers. Upon arrival they tell travelers they cannot honor their original car rental reservation and must instead make a new reservation at the current day rate, which is hundreds of dollars higher. Details: The car rental agency operates under the following names: MEX rent a car, NEXTCAR, Facility rent a car. Zoom rental car, Stride rent a car. While they use a variety of names, in reality it is all the same business and location. When travelers arrive, the perpetrators will claim that their reservation wasn't processed by the original booking site (Expedia, Travelocity, Priceline, Booking.com, etc) and that they no longer have a vehicle available. They will then tell travelers they must cancel their original reservation and rebook with one of the "other companies" on site at the current daily rate, which is hundreds of dollars higher. Why it Matters: I was on the receiving end of this predatory scam and witnessed them employing the same bait and switch tactic on every other person who arrived to pick up a car. I spoke with other travelers who told me they were coerced into paying 4 to 5 times the cost of their original reservation. These were often people who couldn't afford to do so and were financially vulnerable, but felt like they had no other choice but to comply. The company poses as a reputable agency but in reality they are targeting and deceiving unwitting travelers and extorting them for higher prices when they no longer have an alternative. Impact: Travelers at the location are exhausted, vulnerable, and still being preyed upon every day. These people had small children, elderly parents, and important life events they were trying to get to. It's a scam designed to force people to accept a substantially higher rate under duress. I have never encountered a situation like this in any other city or country I've traveled to. The fact that a business like this is being allowed to continue operating in Orlando is an embarrassment to the entire city, which relies heavily upon tourism. Expedia, Priceline, Booking.com and other booking sites should remove this company's listings immediately and report the operator to the Orange County Consumer Protection Office: Email: fraudhelp@ocfl.net Phone: (407) 836-3111 2450 33rd St., 2nd FL Orlando, 32839-8726 https://www.orangecountyfl.net/NeighborsHousing/ConsumerProtection.aspx

They fee and tax you to death, you're better off going to a big rental company. Ended up costing me over $250 extra

We recently used Fox rentals through Expedia. First of all,…read morebeware that they are NOT located at the airport. The shuttle runs during "business hours" which is listed as 5am-12:30. (Another traveler had to call them after our 12am arrival flight even though they expressly say they shuttle and allowed us to book a 12:30am pickup time. We even provided our flight information to them) The shuttle driver made it sound like they were doing us a favor by "staying late" and had a $5 bill sticking out of the dash so we all knew he was accepting tips. We get there and we had booked the rental in my Husbands name, using my mother's card (she and I handled the itinerary for the trip.) Although we purchased the additional insurance through Expedia, Fox required that we also purchase insurance through them at another $15.40 per day. The fees will absolutely floor you, but we will get to that later. They wanted a credit card on file (or a debit card as long as they could put a $1000 hold on it) for incidentals. They wouldn't accept a credit card from my mother, it had to be the in the booked drivers name. We asked to switch the booked driver to my mother, nope they COULD NOT do that. They did offer to REBOOK under my mom's name, but not until the following "morning" at 3x the cost. Eventually my husband just gave them his card, they charged a random amount, but said they'd just do $750- they charged us $775.45 the additional fees the charged us conveniently added up to $275.45, so he was refunded $500.00 on the dot. This was not explained to us, we were told it was just a hold for incidentals. They said nothing about the charges they knew they were charging us coming out at the ends but obviously that's what the plan was. My god THE FEES!! Fees for the privilege of using their license plates In the state of Florida PER DAY, fees for "energy recovery" PER DAY (for them to vacuum the carpet and wipe down the dash),A BUS ACCESS FEE Because they let you use their "free shuttle." A "PRIVILEGE FEE RECOVERY" that they pay the airport and then pass on to the customer for the privilege of operating their business "at the airport." (Reminder we had to be shuttled from the airport and nearly didn't have a chance to check in. If they didn't "stay late" and the other traveler hadn't called, we would have been in a world of trouble! And they're also charging a bus access fee, so seems like a double dip to me. No "at the airport" privileges but all the cost of them!) A daily cost for "PlatePass Inc" although I'm pretty certain we only went on roads that required tolls on two different days. We weren't offered anything other than this. (I highly recommend looking into alternative options on your own, they're not trying to help you AT ALL! There may be a way to buy your own transponder, I saw some at Publix but I have no idea how they work) No one went out with us to look over the vehicle to see if there were any damages prior to us taking it. I took all around pictures and videos so they'd be time stamped incase it became an issue. When we got back, no one looked over the vehicle with us. They had us leave it with the keys on the dash. The shuttle driver was rushing us to get on the shuttle so he could depart for the airport. The whole thing was so strange--- even the non-descript pick up Places had a ton of people there that loaded into unmarked sprinter vans. VANS THAT MY HUSBAND AND MOTHER WERE GOING TO GET INTO BECAUSE THEY THOUGHT IT WAS FOX! Their shuttles are clearly marked but at the time we didn't know that (and for all I know those sprinter vans were Fox!) I would recommend saving yourself the headache and making sure you can conduct your business at the airport. I fully believe the nominal savings we thought we had using Fox was not worth the headache the "what ifs" (what if another traveler hadn't called to have a shuttle sent to us at 12:10-12:15 when they hadn't planned on sending a shuttle for the 12am arrival?? What if they got into a sprinter van thinking it was Fox's shuttle? What if they tried to charge us for dents/dings already on the vehicle?) and we actually ended up paying more than we thought we had in savings. The vehicle itself was okay, it definitely seemed like it has been used and abused. We babied it- but all functionalities seemed to work just fine. All and all we learned our lesson . Now that we know what to expect, I'll definitely take it into consideration for future trips requiring a rental vehicle.

The bus the driver brought was too small to accommodate all the people waiting. A family that had been waiting for 40 minutes decided to take a cab instead. Once I got to the rental location, it looked run down. The person that assisted me seen more annoyed than helpful. I decided to return the car a day early just to avoid the hassle of an early morning drop off. Save yourself the hassle, spend the money and rent from the airport. It will save you grief and frustration.

After…read morecontacting the five or so other rental car providers (who were all sold out), I managed to get out of Orlando in the only car available - a luxury car from a luxury rental that was 40% more, but was also the only way I was going to leave the city. Now, to be fair, I was thirty minutes late to pick up the car, and I imagine somewhere in the terms of service they tell you that Alamo provides you twenty-nine minutes to pick up your car or they will give it away. However, it was not awesome to be stranded in Orlando for six hours when every other car rental was sold out. For something that can be so impactful to families, a company that cares about its customers could send a text or email warning you that they're giving your car rental away. Another way to show you care about customers is to state very clearly -- you have twenty nine minutes to pick up a car rental from Alamo, or they will give your car away. So, to be clear to everyone reading this: You have twenty-nine minutes to pick up a car rental from Alamo. They will not call you or warn you. You will not know that your car has been given away. They will not be helpful on the phone. I'll never, ever rent from Alamo again.

Instead, you'll get a $40 fee plus the cost of the tolls billed by Plate Pass. I have 4 tolls at $1-$2 each RT or $10. Now, I received a toll bill for $57.00 for those tolls. I placed my transponder on the dashboard of the car, but it did not register when I went through tolls. Why not? Register Transponder: In order for your tolls to register using your own transponder, you'll have to register the tag number of the rental car so that it can be charged to you directly. That way, you'll avoid paying a $40 fee & excalated toll charges beyond what the state charges. Insurance-- I asked for the $35 per day insurance and the agent charged me the $85 per day insurance. They get you to sign off on the paperwork so rapidly by acting super busy and you don't get a chance to read the fine print. Don't let them rush you. Read it, circle what you select, & before you leave the rental company sit & read the contact again carefully.

I made a reservation and included my Dollar Express membership number. This was apparently ignored. I speak to the agent at the Express counter int he garage, who tells me that no, she can't look up my number (because my rental is "prepaid," see?), and now my family and I and all our belongings have to go back to the terminal to get my car. Once there, we get to wait in a huuuuge line, because they only have 2 rental agents, who apparently have to negotiate the Magna Carta with each passenger. Literally, it took longer for me (a repeat customer and "Dollar Express" member) to get my pre-paid, pre-arranged rental car in Orlando, than it did for me to FLY TO ORLANDO IN THE FIRST PLACE. I get that staffing shortages are an issue, but it's not like they don't know when people are coming for their cars. They have reservation times, flight numbers, and everything! Why is it so hard to plan for people arriving to pick up cars, when they tell you, days in advance? And why even require a "negotiation" at the rental counter? You already have my credit card. I'm happy to provide a driver's license number when I register. Just let me be on my way already. Airlines handle more complicated transactions through a kiosk. Also, their PlatePass (pre-paid tolls) is a ripoff - just get yourself a SunPass at any grocery store in Florida. (Seriously $54? For what? And why can't you just bill through for any tolls? You already have the license plate, credit card, and time of pickup and return. It's not rocket science.) Returning the car at the airport, there is barely anyone to help direct traffic (no more room in the return lanes!), never mind checking in your car and providing a receipt. Having gone 0 for 2 with Dollar between LAX and MCO, I'm now in "fool me twice, shame on you" territory. I don't care how cheap the rental is, it's not worth it.
