The Straw Hat is a small, local ice cream shop near downtown North East. It features Perry's ice cream as well as Penn State ice cream from the Berkey Creamery. See the attached pics. The small scoops are huge so be sure you are hungry enough to eat a medium or more. They also have soft serve ice cream as well as a plethora of milk shakes and sundaes. I had the Grasshopper Pie hand-dipped come. DELICIOUS! There is something for everyone here so c'mon down and check it out. It's what old time ice cream times is all about.

Good ice cream (Penn State Creamery and an awesome local brand - Northern Scoop!) and friendly, helpful staff.

Then they ran out of the waffle cones and offered us 2 sugar cones and $1. They also don't have napkins for people to get. I get inflation is high but come on.

On a Saturday, around 8pm or so, the family and I were walking downtown Jamestown and came here for a cold and creamy treat! From what I could tell, they only served hard ice cream, which was locally made by Addie's Ice Cream, along with sundaes, floats, etc., so no custards here, but no complaints here! After perusing their flavors, we were able to go right up to the window and place our order. There appeared to be about two or three people working, but they were courteous and quick, including the woman who took our order. There were a couple of benches near this shop but more than likely, expect to stand or walk somewhere else to sit. We all ordered medium-sized ice cream cones and upgraded to the waffle cone for an additional 75 cents. I went with their New York Cheese Cake and Mint Oreo Fudge flavors. The NY Cheese Cake flavor was on top and was very creamy! I loved how the cherries were swirled in. The Mint Oreo Fudge was an excellent closer for my ice cream cone as it was fudgy with plenty of Oreo cookie pieces and the right amount of mint flavor. The medium-size was the perfect portion too, it left me plenty satisfied. I will admit the prices might seem a tad on the high side, but the ice cream was very good and I like to support local places when I can. Overall, The Sprinkle Cone scooped out a great experience with friendly customer service and quality hard ice cream. When I come back to Jamestown, I wouldn't have any problems coming back and trying a couple different flavors!

I heard great things about this place and was really looking forward to going. BUT their website…read moredid not list what hours they were open! One place said they close at 9, this website says 8 - and that it files not open until 4. I tried calling without success and their message did not state their hours either. Finally, figuring they would be open by noon, I drove there -and it was closed. The outside did not state their business hours either. My only clue of their possible open hours was on this website. A note to the business - if you want business, state CLEARLY when you are open for business.

You order at right window, pay and then pick up your treats at the left window. There are a couple of picnic tables and some benches to enjoy and watch the lake. We stopped by for some ice cream. The portions were generous, the prices reasonable and the ambiance casual. I got a cup with Brownie Batter and Salty Caramel Truffle ice creams. The ice cream was great, sweet and rich, plenty of flavor. I especially liked that the hard ice cream was served at the perfect temperature, soft but not fully melted so that it has a great mouth feel. Based on the flavors offered and the quality of the ice cream, I would guess that Barney's is serving Hershey's Ice Cream. A nice little quirky place to grab a sweet treat. If you are in the area give them a try.

We got skunked at the Skink and Goat tavern on Monday…read more We have been driving from New England to Ohio to drop our oldest off at college and always wanted to come here. It is their senior year, so it was our last chance so we made sure to stop. We came in on a Monday around 1 pm. I had made a reservation, but not needed The waitress promptly brought us menus. There were five other tables occupied. We waited 25 minutes (I started a stop watch after 10) and the waitress never came back to take our order, bring us water or see if we had any questions. We had the menu down. I tried to flag her down but she ignored us. So we got up and left. All in all a very disappointing experience. We were so looking forward to it, the music was great, the food smelled great. But the service was beyond horrible. .

We had our dog with us so we only planted to get carry out, and then we discovered a shaded patio. We decided to stay and eat outside. I was standing at the host stand for quite a while because I hadn't noticed the seat yourself sign. I had also walked in the restaurant and was looking around for any employee - two servers at a table saw me standing there looking confused but then just went right back into the kitchen. When another guest pointed out the sign, I thought well that's great but if we want to sit outside will they ever know we are there. Someone finally returned to the bar and we were able to get a server. We ended up ordering three appetizers - skoat balls, cheese sticks, peach Burrata. All three good. I also ordered a blueberry mint mocktail beer that was actually quite disappointing. It was also quite a charming little town! Would like to go back again sometime, sadly that is unlikely to ever happen.
