A couple things detracted from the quality of our stay. * Noise insulation. The windows are THIN. You will hear every single sound from the world outside your room. There was a homeless man who resided under our window who, every night, coughed for three hours straight before he fell asleep. The kind of nauseating cough that harkens back to the age of sanitariums. Not pleasant for either of us I'm sure. * Toilet positioning. If you happen to have a left leg you may find sitting comfortably will pose an interesting challenge, at least if you get room 418. The toilet is next to the shower, and when I say next to the shower, I mean practically touching the glass shower wall. * Air temperature control. The room was chilly during the day, but hot and stuffy at night. The only way to control that was to open the window. Our windows were half covered with immobile wood shutters, which made opening them basically impossible. Also, refer to my first bullet point. * I'm not sure I got the room I booked. I pre-checked in hours before the room was ready, but when I returned to collect my room keys the front desk employee got squirrelly. She wrote down my name and scurried into a back office. When she came back she said something to the effect of, "Ok, I found a room for you." I found this curious as I had already did the heavy lifting of checking in, I just needed the keys, but after 24 hours of travel I just didn't have it in me to inquire. I just wanted a bed. This room did not have a sideboard-type table or a mirror outside of the bathroom, and there was absolutely no room to put either. And, of course, as previously mentioned, the window and bathroom situation. I let it go because we were only there three nights, but the more I think about it the more it annoys me. read more

The good: - Location - super Central to just about everything that you need as a tourist. Very hopping all day and night - it's near the theater district. - Value - from what I remember, I think I got a pretty good deal for what I got. Many of the hotels I looked in the area had tiny rooms that only fit a bed but this had so much room - great size bed and bathroom and desk and storage. - You get $ for not doing daily room cleanings. You can get 7 Euros per day for skipping the cleaning and you can use 2 of the credits at a time at the restraunt downstairs. We put it towards breakfast for one of the days. - Refillable filtered water on every floor and you get 2 refillable water bottles in the room along with a chocolate bar. - Pretty lobby and the staff were very helpful and nice. The bad: - The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because my side of the bed was super uncomfortable and hard to sleep in. I thought it was just me at first but I made my partner switch sides after 2 nights and he hated it as well. I have no idea why but one side of the bed was extra hard and bumpy or something. It gave me major backpains for the 2 nights that I slept in it. Luckily my partner was willing to switch with me and I had such a better night sleep after that. read more

I always stay at this hotel every year. The location is unbeatable. Right on the Strand, walking distance to Covent Garden, theaters, restaurants, and public transport. If you plan to be out exploring most of the day, it's incredibly convenient. The hotel itself feels more classic, large-scale London hotel than boutique. The lobby is busy and energetic, and the rooms--while clean and comfortable--are fairly standard and on the smaller side. If you're used to cozy, design-forward boutique hotels with lots of personality, this may feel a bit impersonal. That said, the bed was comfortable, housekeeping was dependable, and staff were professional and efficient. Breakfast was fine--nothing memorable, but perfectly serviceable. I'd stay here again for the location and ease, especially for a theater-focused trip, but if charm and intimacy are high on your list, you may want to look elsewhere. Overall: practical, well-located, and comfortable. read more

This hotel is in the heart of it all, and most probably book it for that reason. The rooms are clean, as was the bathroom, and the bed was comfortable. They need to work on check in times, as we saw long lines each day. Also, the "going green" campaign needs some fine tuning. This program offers some money for not having housekeeping. The problem is the cleaning crew must give the ticket, and we didn't get one. Not a big deal/ this seems more like a systems issue rather than anything else. The doorman looks the part, but he rarely actually opened the door. Always had a smile and was friendly. But outside of that, I can recommend this hotel without question. We also stopped in for drinks at the bar and enjoyed our time. read more

Centrally located and in close walking distance to the Bush House (where the conference was) but also to Covent Garden, Trafalgar Square and the metro. The room was okay but not stellar, rather small. Overall, the hallways etc should get a renovation and modernization. What bothers me these days is the notorious suggestion that I should skip housekeeping to go green. I think the reason is that they want to save money. The could in fact be "green" by cleaning the room and not replace the towels etc. But appropriate hotel services have to be included in the not too shabby price. Unless they want to skip housekeeping and offer a rebate. read more

We stayed in Strand Palace for three nights during our recent Europe trip. Located on Strand it is close to everything. The area is surrounded by restaurants, pubs, shops and theaters. Plus it's walking distance to Covent Gardens, Piccadilly Circus and Trafalgar Square. There are several nearby tube stations also. We had two rooms. One was a twin room with two twin beds. The room was spacious with a well appointed bathroom. The only negative was it faced Strand and was loud most of the time. The window did have shutters that helped a lot. The other room had a double bed and was their smallest option. It was tiny but perfectly fine if you don't need much room. The hotel was clean with a restaurant in the lobby. There was security and very friendly doormen. One of them actually came down the street when he saw us with our luggage to tell us the side entrance didn't have stairs and was easier to enter with suitcases. The only thing I would point out is the elevators took a while. There are three small ones but we did end up using the stair a few times just because of the wait. This didn't bother us and we had a wonderful stay. read more

Very centrally located hotel with great service. The check in line was very long but they had all desks available and they moved through it quickly. I got checked in with Gigi and she was so nice and professional! The single room was quite small, but functional for a few days where you're out most the time. The bathroom was a bit outdated and had a big step up from the ground to the shower which if you're tall might have you leaning over in the shower. The room itself was clean and comfortable. Overall a good choice for the area. read more

This was our hotel during our stay in London and I can't get enough superlatives to state how great our stay was. The room was comfortable and a very helpful staff. Plus, it's in the theatre district and was very walkable to everything from nearby theatres to Buckingham Palace and the Houses of Parliament. Will definitely stay there again. read more

Very nice hotel in a vibrant neighborhood of London! The staff is super friendly, the rooms are comfortable with updated amenities. They provide complimentary water and have refill stations on each floor and I loved the chocolates as a nice welcome treat! They had nespresso machines for morning coffee which was also really nice. The hotel was close by to tons of shopping, dining and entertainment. I'd stay here again! read more

Stayed at the Strand Palace for a few nights in London. This hotel is located on the Strand, a well-known street in Westminster that has a bunch of cafes, shopping, museums, and more. Super convenient walk to historical landmarks/sites such as London Eye, Big Ben, and Buckingham Palace. Checking in was super easy and quick. We got two rooms during our stay, and the rooms were clean but a little smaller than expected. Honestly though, we made it work & it ended up being perfect. This hotel also does not have a pool but does have a 24/7 gym. I loved staying at the Strand Palace, as it was super convenient to walk out and be so close to everything. Covent Gardens is only a few minutes walk away and was where I would get my coffees every morning. Totally recommend the Strand Palace if you're looking for a nice hotel to stay at, when in London. read more

Centrally located and very nice staff make this a nice place to stay. Doormen are extremely friendly and helpful. Could use a bit of assistance on lifts as they were slow and frequently full so we had to wait quite a bit . One was broken for a day and a half. Love the water in lounge. Lounges not very inviting- could use a bit of decor. Rooms could be a bit more clean as our shower had crust on the doors, and and although we left the appropriate sign on door saying to clean it, our room was neglected so we ran out of tissues and had to reuse towels that were placed on floor. We would have loved more water and another chocolate but it is 1 per room. The filler water in hallway for bottles tasted quite awful and was very warm. Our shower was very slow to drain. Air conditioning not as cool as we like but this is common in London . Overall a nice place to stay- just needs a bit of renovations . read more

I loved my stay here. I was a bit skeptical considering the reviews. That being said this is my experience: The location itself is amazing. Everything you need is nearby. There's a lot of walkable attractions, restaurants and the metro is so close. The location is an absolute gem. The room itself is small. Nothing to note. Has a shower and a bed. For me it was fine because it was just a place to sleep. I am here to explore the city not the lounge in my room. If that's the case this is a good place to stay. There wasn't much space for my stuff but I made do. The breakfast is alright. There's a variety of options but it tastes okay. Good for the price As a solo traveler I felt really safe. I liked how they lock up the doors at midnight and need to show your key to get in. I did not like the shampoo/conditioner. I had to go buy my own. As someone with thick curly hair it didn't agree with me. I took a shower and spent an hr detangling my hair. After that I bought new supplies. As for the other reviews that mention the go green program, I was unaware I had signed up for it. I didn't click the option to opt out of it. That being said I didn't mind having my room cleaned every four days. I like my space and I like things where I leave them. I'm clean and organized so I didn't need someone to clean after me everyday. Given all that information if you want a good hotel in a great location that's what you're paying for. It's nothing fancy, but a great spot. read more

I have a tough time giving this so-called hotel two stars. Any way, here goes: Our shower was only 6 feet tall. A traveler with us had a shower that was higher. So be warned. Our room was small, but functional with windows which thankfully opened a crack and USB plugs near the bed. When I went to push down on the shampoo dispenser, both that and the conditioner dispenser fell off the shower wall. When I went to the bar to have a gin and tonic, I set my elbow down on the countertop into a sticky circular ring. One of the bartenders wiped it down promptly after my request to do so. I really did enjoy the well dressed doorman with a tophat. I won't be staying here again, even if you offered me a free voucher. Location is great and that is why they get an extra star. They did not have the guests best interest in mind when creating this hotel. It was an expensive and that's why it was sold out (which made the elevators, extremely busy and very slow). Quality is long remembered after price is soon forgotten. I will remember the quality of this place. Blaaah read more

Request info on size of room before you book. "superior king" is actually quite small. Difficult to accommodate two adults and luggage. Overall, my week-long stay at the Strand Palace was good, but there were a few areas that definitely could have improved. I had booked a Superior Single room online directly through their website and apparently somewhere in the process clicked an option that I never wanted my room cleaned because 4 days in and the room never got serviced unless I called down and asked at the end of a long day out exploring London. Finally one of the hotel managers recognized the issue and unclicked whatever box. So, obviously partly operator error on my end, but also frustrating that no one else in the hotel staff thought about that as a cause when I repeatedly complained about it. I also had a way less than helpful conversation with their concierge about trying to reserve a taxi to the airport the morning after coronation. The gentleman basically gave no advice or solutions and just kept saying we would wait to see what happens because things were uncertain with coronation closures. Again, yes I get that, but not a comforting thing for a "fancy" hotel concierge to say or behave like. Plumbing in my room also left something to be desired as the faucet would randomly pour out water (as if to relieve a water backup elsewhere in the piping) and the shower did not drain properly. Basically the place gives me the impression that it is an ok hotel trying to pretend to be high-end. Major plus is the location, but you will certainly pay dearly for it. read more

Loved my stay at this hotel. You certainly do feel like your in a palace. The staff here was so nice and helpful with assisting me when I had some problem with my ride back to the airport--even though I had already checked out. They were welcoming when i first arrived. I got a voucher for a free drink upon my first day. You also got a voucher for FREE dessert each day you did not get house keeping to clean your room (and if you know me, you'd know i didn't say no to that and enjoyed them immensely). I got the cozy room, which is basically code for small, but i knew that going in when i purchased my stay. I actually loved my room even though it was tiny, and wasnt a problem for me AT ALL. In fact, i recommend if youre alone and did not bring much stuff. My room was nice and clean walking in. I loved the shower, which had excellent water pressure and temperature. The hotel room was ok. The location is great. The service is a zero. I accidentally booked the wrong date for a hotel. I got a new room a month early and canceled the hotel room a month away in person. A month later they still charged me and refused to refund my money. They basically said I had no proof. I don't like dishonest establishments. I spent two hours on a call and ended up with a huge phone bill. Stay at a hotel that has some integrity because this one does not. read more

Ok so here's the thing... Did I enjoy my time there? Yes. Did I come unscathed without any issues? Yes. Honestly, the only things that rubbed me the wrong way was probably the pricing, but that's my fault. The Strand is located at a very convenient spot that is close to shops, restaurants, and public transportation, so that's a bonus. I wasn't able to hear any outside noise, which was important since I was staying during New Year's Eve. I booked through Airbnb and the room picture was a bit misleading. It did have everything that matched the picture, but the room is very very small. Luckily it was just myself, but I wouldn't recommend it for more than one person. Also I think I was located near the staff's storage room, so I can hear them early in the morning. Oh, and there is no fridge in the room. One good thing is that if you skip the housekeeping, you get a 7 pound credit that you can use at their restaurant. Check in/out was a breeze. read more

My stay here was great. Front desk receptionist helpful and nice. Wake up call prompt. Breakfast, OMG who says that English people have shitty food. Their breakfast buffet was amazing with full service meaning I walked in was seated by the host and a waitress came and took my drink order. Rooms are very cozy and comfortable. I took some photos of this place to show my family how nice it was. You are welcome. I couldn't ask for a better location close to the brown line and walking distance to Big Ben. P.S You get a little tea set in your room. read more

I had high hopes when we booked at The Strand. When staying at a full service hotel, I expect full Service. Concierge's we're not readily available, and no one could seem to have a smile on there face. The front desk didn't always acknowledge you unless you spoke to them first. We felt like we were more of a bother to them than anything else. When our a/c wasn't working, it took two phone calls late at night to get someone up to look at it. Told us it was fixed but it clearly was not. The bedding was comfortable, and the bathroom was decent. Good water pressure and nice towels. All the amenities you would want in a room. For the price we paid, the location was perfect. Located on the popular Strand, lots of restaurants and shops within walking distance from the hotel. 20 minutes walking distance to the London Eye and other attractions along the River Thames. I found the hotel to be quite dated, and in need of renovations. There's no air conditioning, so it was hard to sleep in the 90 degrees heat, but I hear that's common in London. Overall, great location, and we enjoyed the convenience of walking everywhere, We might stay here again, but may find nicer accommodations next time we're in London. read more

I'm a normal working man and I stayed at this hotel with my wife on our anniversary on the 15th and 16th of April 2023. The lobby is very nice but the rooms are quite small and the walls are made of paper so if you're looking for any sort of privacy think again this is not the hotel for you. You can literally hear everything going on in each room as they were in your room. Also went for drinks in the bar they open two bottles of Coke one by mistake and where you sealed it to give to another customer so no longer fresh, they had a chipped broken glass brought back by one of the customers and just poured the wine into another glass maybe with the broken piece of glass with it not a fresh class of wine not what you expect for a four-star hotel. I found a tablet on the floor in the bedroom with t100 on it. And we had a free complimentary drink which basically was tap water or you have to pay for it. Yes the staff were nice and it looked lovely but cutting corners is how they make money. If you are paying that sort of money pay a bit more and stay somewhere else read more

I really love the location of this hotel, which is why we decided to stay here for a few nights while on vacation. For the price, its really hard to beat. That being said, this is definitely an old hotel that's had a retrofit. The bathrooms are odd shapes and small. The mini-bar was complimentary, so we got a few beers and a bottle of wine included in the stay. The rooms were clean enough. We did however have a theft issue. We notice our bags had been gone through while we were out. We had arranged zippers and clothes in a certain way to save space while packing and things were out of place. I normally also lock up my money in the safe, but forgot i stashed my local currency in a second wallet, while abroad and forgot about it. I found that it was slightly lighter, to the tune of $40 when I counted it. We reported the issue to management, and they swore up and down, that we were wrong. We then stayed 2 more nights and didn't get an answer or a response from the hotel, as the hotel staff the turned our room were "off." They just made excuses till we left. Just stay elsewhere. read more

The best part about the hotel is the location, about a 5 min walk from the Covent Garden stop, and close to a lot of restaurants and shops in Covent Garden. The reception was nice when I came in, and the WiFi worked well and was free. The rooms itself are a bit on the older side and could use some renovation. I got a single room and it was tiny, it had a twin sized bed, a small desk, closet, and the bathroom. It wasn't particularly clean, as I found a hair in the bathtub and in the sheets before I went to sleep, so that was a bit off-putting. They don't have ice machines in the hallways, if that's something important to you, nor do they have conditioner (just body wash, body creme, and shampoo). Just plan accordingly. There are better deals elsewhere - I paid almost £150 per night. If all you're going for is location and a roof over your head and somewhere to sleep, then this is fine, but I would look somewhere else. read more

This was a very good hotel option in London. The location right in the Covent Garden area and right on Strand is excellent, you can walk everywhere and take the Tube anywhere. The hotel itself is clean and perfect for any traveler. Many will remark that the rooms are small, but in a city like London, does that really matter? I had their breakfast and it was fairly standard...I liked the fresh bread and cheese and thick bacon (not common for us Americans!). I got a great deal as part of a package so do your research when booking. The location is excellent for the average traveler. read more

Ok, so you're telling me there's a place in the middle of Central London, among all the tourist traps that is Covent Garden and Trafalgar....and this place is at a great price? Yes, the Strand Palace, which is obviously on the Strand is a great place for tourists and business people, like myself to have a place to stay at a reasonable price. Just directly across the street from the Savoy, the Strand Palace is at a much lower price than that all time London establishments. Whenever I get a room here (a single), the price goes from 70 to 200 quid, or about 140 to 250 American dollars. Which I think is very good knowing that you're just a short, short walk from many train and bus stations. As far as places to eat, there are many choices. The aforementioned Covent Garden, there's a Burger King up Kingsway and there's a Tesco Express right across the street. Now for the amenities. It is great for the price. Seriously, do you go to London for a place to stay? The rooms are just right and the bathrooms are very modern with up to date fixtures and appliances. Trust me, you're not using the same toilet that Lord Balfour used in 1922. Actually the bathrooms were top notch, dare I say better than the overpriced hotel across the street? So whenever I'm back in London on business or to watch a big football or cricket match, the Strand Palace is a cost effective place to stay if I want to be in the middle of all the business that is London. read more

Traveling solo and trying to cram as much sightseeing in central London as I could in 2 days, this hotel was perfect. I couldn't have asked for a better location. Not only are there several tube stations nearby (~5 min walk), but a majority of the tourist hot spots were all walking distance such as Trafalgar Square/National Gallery, Buckingham Palace, Big Ben etc. Yes, the hotel is a bit outdated and the rooms are quite small for the price, but to me, location was everything since I wasn't planning to be in the room all that much to begin with. Since I was traveling alone, I booked their smallest room, which is a cozy single, and let me tell you, boy was this room tiny. I was actually shocked at how small the room was. It's really meant for 1 person. The price of the room wasn't cheap either. It was £165 the one Saturday night I was there, which is about $230 after tax. However, it did come with a £15 voucher that could be used at the restaurants/bars so that was nice (could not be used for English breakfast though). Fyi, you only get the voucher if you book directly with them. For the purposes of my trip, the Strand Palace Hotel was perfect. They have luggage storage too, which is great if you want to continue exploring after checking out. Wifi was complimentary and decent enough for basic browsing. 0/5 stars bad didn't get hotel on time and made us wait in lobby till available when check in time was 3 and we arrived on time

Our travel plans changed unexpectedly and we needed to cancel our booking. We had booked a month in advance and our request for cancellation was in less than 24hr after booking, but the hotel said they would not cancel our $500 reservation. I don't see how cancelling our booking would harm their schedule in any way, especially when we were willing to pay a cancellation fee, but this business is more interested in sticking to their "non-cancellation policy" aka "keeping my money" than maintaining a customer happy and being willing to work with her. Most businesses in the industry are being extremely flexible given the unpredictability of the Covid situation across the world and here they refuse to cancel a booking weeks in advance. That definitely speaks volumes about this institution. Please do yourself a favor and stay away from this hotel, they will steal your money without you ever setting foot in their location. read more

It is impossible to travel from US to London right now yet they refuse to even give a partial refund of my money for a room I can never utilize.
