The structure is extremely strong, it flows with the rest of the house, and best of all, it really feels like I just got an additional 480 square feet of living space. I was very particular to get good workmanship, so I interviewed three good, local builders. I recognized Pete Tovar's deep knowledge of the trade, but what I really like was that he dealt with me like I would deal with somebody - Yes, he brought the expertise but also a lot of respect and a commitment to do the job like his name was on it. And he offered the best price as well. When construction time came, he was right there going over the materials and supervising his workers closely. I took care of the design and the permit, so we had to work together on that and he had to deal with my little quirks and looking over his shoulder, and I have to say, he saved my bacon by correcting a couple of things that were wrong with the plans. Before he started, Jess ran with us through multiple options to made sure that we get exactly what we wanted. Him and his badass crew logged up an inhumane amount of cement blocks and rocks five flights of stairs in the heat of summer without a single complaint - and always a smile on their faces. And if anyone knows the stair situation in Silverlake, you know very well that this ain't a joke!! After constructing a sturdy and surprisingly good looking retaining wall - plowing effortlessly through the hard labor like it's a piece of strawberry shortcake - his finesse, attention to detail and wonderful artistic vision came to light when he put the wooden fence together. Rather than just putting up a fence, he created a work of art that is beautiful to stare at. It is clearly visible from Sunset Blvd and I would argue that it became one of the landmarks of our neighborhood. He turned our mid backyard into a super cozy spot to hangout at.
