Your best bet will be a place like this one where you're going to pay 2-3X more for an item than you might at the supermarket. Chalk it up as "convenience." :-)

I was surprised by the amount of items in this seemingly small store. The aisles were packed with stuff. This is not a very large store but there is a terrific selection. I was able to get my drink and was happy they used Styrofoam which I LOVE. I know it's bad for the environment but it keeps the drinks cooler so much longer. Bad on me. Yes, this is a convenience store but it's not your typical convenience store. They had the regular fare of chips and candies. There was just more to this quaint little store. It has a different energy. You got the feeling they weren't rushing you out of the store like so many other places. They had all sorts of tobacco choices, as well. A clerk even offered to help me which never happens in other stores. The staff was friendly and attentive. They were helpful and nice. A smile goes a long way in customer service. This store is easily accessible and it was easy-in, easy-out. Prices seemed reasonable, as well. Downtown Lawrence is a few blocks away so this is a great location. Highly impressed and pleased. Will go back again.

In a town with little going on in the food category save a sketchy downtown mom & pop joint serving exceptionally uninspiring chow and your typical sports bar-set-em-up bad swill joints across the road a ways, De Soto is a proverbial food desert (take Steve's Meat Market out of that equation though, an exceptional stop). This little grocery is bringing your typical dry goods, Jarritos, Mexican cokes, canned goods, ground and whole spices, facilities for phoning dinero home to family south of the border and a lot of other things you'd expect, including a few fresh vegetables in the back. But on Saturday... fresh tamales, some of the best I've had in ages. Show me where you can get these elsewhere this good because I chase this stuff all time. Not to be found this moist, this bursting with flavorful pork and falling apart, savory goodness. Score!!! Now I don't know who is making these tamales but they were in a styrofoam container and bags of 6 inside of freezer bags, still warm as in right out of the oven. Holy guacamole, tasty plus. I adore little joints like this. The young lady working the front counter said her family used to run a Mexican restaurant so apparently whoever is running this knows what they're doing. Came home with some ground chilis (spices) which make your every day chili so much more interesting, and big jug of Mango Jarritos, the perfect complement to the tamales. And with that, I'm now off to eat 2-3 more of these delicious little packages. Great place, check it out! Better yet, make a trip to Steve's Meat Market down the road on a Saturday and stop in here for a package or two of those tamales. If you come: in a small strip mall next to a gas station, convenience store a couple of minutes off the main De Soto exit on the West side with Lexington Ave. being the main highway that bypasses the town. Don't be looking for a web site or Facebook page, none that I can find.

Bleh. Nothing outstanding about Kwik Shop. I've been spoiled. Badly spoiled by QuikTrip. Other…read moreconvenience stores have a huge bar to reach. This is a busy store by an exit on a state highway. It is situated in a small town so they do a great volume here. This is the equivalent of a small town mall. They offer all the things a convenience store should offer. They have gasoline, refrigerator filled walls of drink assortments, candy, more gum than anyone could ever chew, beef jerky, cigarettes and lottery tickets. Standard convenience store fare. Everything seems to be in order and there appears to be a wide selection of products. I found myself inside the store when I went to get gas and the pump could not read my card. I decided this was a good chance to grab a sandwich for lunch tomorrow. They had a wide variety of lunch foods in the cold case but they were pricey. I was going to get some cheese and beef jerky but the small pack was almost $5. No thanks! The cashier was very nice and pleasant. The store was clean. I just could not get past the prices.

Unlike the holy mess of an excuse, one-star crapper that sits at 19th and Massachusetts Streets in Lawrence, its sole purpose apparently to thumb their nose at folks with Dillon's cards wanting cheap gas. This Kwik Shop has things the 19th and Mass doesn't: - the gas pumps actually dispense gas quickly. No 5 minute waits while it drips into your gas tank. - there is actually water and soap in the window cleaning buckets so you can wash your window. - there are actually paper towels in the dispenser too, amazing. - the exterior and lot is fairly clean and appearance kept up. - the lot is of the size that you don't feel like you can move without hitting someone, even if crowded which it was on my visit. - the inside was clean and the help professional. Yea, here's where I'm getting gas in the future. I head to KC enough that it's time to just bypass the horribly managed Lawrence locations. Bravo to little Eudora for the managers of this place doing a first-rate job.
