So, this is a difficult review to write. The first 2 years that my mother lived here were great. The apartment she had was very spacious, they offer great activities and the staff was great. She did not need a lot of help. As her physical condition worsened, we paid for extra levels of care that included incontinence care, showering, help with dressing, etc. This last year the staff at Spring Meadows changed radically. They were constantly short staffed, and many of the new people they hired were rude and some actually man-handled my mother. She went from waiting 20 minutes or so for an aide to 3 HOURS during the holidays and the last couple of weeks of January. We discovered that she had the beginnings of open sores from sitting in her urine all day. Several of the aides told me that people were constantly calling in sick, and on many occasions there was only one aide for an entire wing. I was there 3 times a week for hours at a time, and saw first hand that there was often 7-15 people ( on the call board) at reception who were waiting for an aide as well. All that said, there are 4 or 5 aides there that are stellar people, as well as Laura, who is one of the directors. I felt like she was drowning trying to find good people. I can only assume that they have a difficult time staffing the place because the pay is very low. Because the good aides have to work with a bunch of sloths, these good people are overworked like crazy. I saw one aide at 10:00pm one evening as I was leaving, he was still there at 1:00pm the next day. We probably kept my mother there too long, I understand that. In the last several months she became a 2 person assist, and they are not staffed for that at any assisted living facility. But that is no excuse for rude, defensive, mean spirited aides, for rough physical treatment, for not cleaning her properly, and for not informing the family that sores were beginning to develop. So, if your loved one does not need a lot of extra care, Spring Meadows is a great choice...lots of outings, activities and a great social scene. If your loved one needs more care, run away until they get their staffing issues sorted out. read more
