Joined my coworkers for lunch here recently. I had the fish & chips. The fish was barramundi which I was told I MUST have while in the country. It was indeed very good! I had a hard cider with it. I'm not sure what kind it was, but it was a dry cider and really good. The fish & chips were a huge portion but really tasty. Not overly greasy and well seasoned. I really wish I had more to say, but this was really well done. I enjoyed sitting on the patio in the wonderful weather that we had that day. The Story Brisbane is somewhat of an icon in Brisbane and definitely one of the best restaurants / pubs / bars. It has everything from your old school TAB pub, an open air beer garden, a Terrace bar and then a funky lounge style sitting area. Great food is on offer for reasonable prices but Deery's Restaurant next door cant be beat!! A great selection of beers on tap and are priced reasonably considering the upmarket feel of the bar in general. You may want to steer clear of the Story Bridge when there are games being played at the Gabba but if you are thirsty before or after a game then you cant beat the vibe created when all the sport fans get together! A great spot for Sunday arvo drinks! You will normally find a more 'mature' crowd than the other Sunday hot spots. It does lack a dance floor for people looking for a big night out but the general atmosphere makes up for it!! A quick mention needs to be made of the Australia Day event the Story Bridge puts on. It is Awesome!! They open up an area towards the other side of Deery's Restaurant and have Cockroach races, live music and a bunch of other Australia Day themed activities and it is great, great fun!! read more

Story bridge hotel released a net menu recently, and a group of my friends decided to go on Tues 16 Nov. I have to say the evening was a massive disappointments, and has led to the worse customer service experience I have had from a pub ever. Staff on the night: - Got my order wrong, and it was sent back to the kitchen - I waited so long for my correct meal to come, that my friends had finished eating and we waiting another 20 mins. - When my meal finally arrive - it was so overcooked and terrible, I had to return it for a second time. - When I complained about my experience, the wait staff gave me a whole lot of attitude (she then went back to flirting with the table of drunks beside us). I lodged an official complaint through the SBH website, to which I received no response. I then lodged a complaint via the SBH Facebook page, to which I received a personal message briefly apologising for the experience I had and was told senior management would be in response. Two weeks later - that response has not been received. When I made contact, I was told management had tried emailing and phoning me - but I check my emails and spam regularly - and have voicemail on my phone - and there was no missed calls or email. Management were even provided my details several times through different channels...so my response to this is they haven't tried making contact. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED OVERALL IN STORY BRIDGE HOTEL - and if anything does go wrong, even Management can't get things right. MY ADVICE TO PEOPLE LOOKING FOR GREAT SPOTS IN THE KANGAROO POINT AREA FOR MEETING WITH FRIENDS.... There's some great alternatives to SBH - I would recommend: - Sealegs Brewery - Black Hops - Brews Brothers or for the short stroll across the Story Bridge, there's - Felons - Multiple options around Eagle Street Pier. I've experienced over great service at these other locations - and highly recommend them over going to the SBH. read more

Unfortunately, since I am not from Brisbane I can't speak about the minor peculiarities of this particular pub, but the fact that it has been built under a bridge (or did they build the bridge over the pub? I suspect the second suggestion is probably the more accurate since the pub is older than the bridge) and as far as I am concerned that is really cool. Okay, I'm sure if I didn't like the pub the fact that it is under a bridge would have little effect upon me, but it is actually a pretty cool pub. It is one of those places where you can pretty much find anything from a swanky new bar to an older style restaurant (and pokie machines). In the end though, what I think is really cool about this place is the fact that it is under a bridge. read more

It's a good pub, Fridays and Saturdays attracts an older crowd 40+. So if your looking to pick up, I hope you're after a cougar. On the downside after about 10pm, they have a pretty poor Dj who plays ridiculously loud inappropriate commercial house music. Then all the lady's take over the dance floor after 1 too many wines. It's rather tragic. Unless of course that's your thing Good pub food, flexible with rearranging sides for the mains for those with dietary requirements. This is a nice place to grab food after you have done the Story Bridge Adventure Climb. I got to appreciate the place much more after I heard about its history from our guide at the adventure climb. I definitely felt under-dressed coming in shorts and my backpack, but nobody seemed to care which was really nice. The place gives a classy but not snooty vibe. The Story Bridge Hotel has a long and somewhat complex history but being Brisbane I have come to expect that these types of places always attract the crowds and have something a little bit special about them. I am glad to say that the Story Bridge Hotel pub lives up to this tradition and as you walk in you are greeted by photos of how Brisbane use to be. Do not be fooled however by its rich history and connection to the past because it has indeed kept up with the times and as you walk through it you almost get the sense of passing through the times. You can walk from the old traditional style pub to a modern bar and restaurant. T he Story Bridge is also great for work functions and has a variety of areas that you can book out. There is also a bottle shop on the venue so if you feel like the night is not over yet you can always head home with merchandise for the occasion. The times that I have been to the Story Bridge hotel have been good and it seems to be a place that is inviting to families too. With all these offerings its not hard to see why the Story Bridge has been around for so long. The Story Bridge is truly a pub with a view and if you like historical sites I suggest you check it out. read more

So far my favorite breakfast spot in Brisbane. The ambiance is very laid back and yet sophisticated in a very understated way. As a local New Yorker, I miss my brunch time w friends and this almost made me feel at home. I ordered the Benedict with salmon and a side of smashed avocado and had to wait till 9am to order Prosecco. My partner ordered the breakfast burger. The food came out in record time, we were famished and dug in straight away. I was extremely pleased with everything, it tasted fresh and organic and my girlfriend said it was probably the best breakfast burger she's ever had. The Prosecco was divine so I was a happy girl. I think I'd arrange more breakfast meetups here. read more

A tardis of a pub, or a pub of a tardis. We walked in off a small side door, presumably one of many unmanned and open entry and exit points, just because one of us tried it and it opened. The route into the pub was interesting. We walked down some hallways, into an older style bar area with few customers, into a dead end toilet section, then a kitchen, next a gaming area, and finally another bar area with seating and street views...which led to another eating area and bar, which led to another bar and beer garden, which led to a raised lounge type section for cool people and lovers. The pub was much bigger on the inside than on the outside, seriously. The meals were quite nice, regular pub fare but well presented and a reasonable choice. There was an array of beer specials and plenty of bar space but as we were there on a busy Friday night finding some free/available bar space to order without high heels and a short skirt was still challenging. The music was great but typically could be lowered by a few decibels and would still be enjoyable. I ended up ordering Rogers most of the time because it was the only thing I could yell at the bar attendant for her to understand me...ROOOOOGERS!!!! The location is amazing although you don't get to appreciate it while leaning against the beer drinking. I went for a run a couple of days before and took in the pub, the bridge, the river. Pretty predictable, satisfactory place for a Saturday night. Nothing to write home about. Nothing to complain about. The clientele is a really unpredictable mix, so you never know the quality of drunk that will try and befriend to you. The DJ we had was average. The hotel was bustling with people on Anzac Day when we visited. An area had been set aside outside for two-up and high spirited people were getting into the action. We weren't able to get a seat inside at one of the tables, but it looked like a nice area. There is plenty of space outside too, to enjoy the nice Brisbane weather. For a place in Brisbane that's this old to have a very extensive renovation was a very bold move. But the way in which the history of this unique hotel has been saved makes this place very special to a lot of Queenslanders. Nestled literally under the Story Bridge, this Hotel offers some of the best atmosphere you could possibly get. It's definitely a place for the older crowd though, be ready to deal with a lot of drunk adults, as this is a favourite place to let seriously loose. Friday's and Saturday nights are especially busy as well. The food is pretty incredible as well. With Deery's Restaurant attached to the proverbial hip you can set your expectations pretty high. A good solid lunch can always be had here for around twenty something dollars. This place is a great representation of what Brisbane really has to offer. Also. The bartenders are incredibly cute. My wife, 3yo daughter and I dinned on a Saturday night. When we arrived we were only the second guests at the early hour of 6pm. We were offered to order a child's dish straight away which was gratefully accepted and it arrived no more than 5mins later. Which was awesome! However our order (which was taken when our daughters meal was serviced) took over 40mins to arrive. Which I guess being a steak was probably not outside the norm, but the restaurant was practically empty. I happened to notice that the steak wasn't placed on the grill for at least 15mins after we ordered and it sat under the serving lights for another 5 (no, it wasn't resting, it was plated). By the time the meal arrived our daughter was ready for dessert. When the finally arrived it was average. It was the top of line steak offered and should have been fantastic at the prices being charged. But it was realistically flavourless, cold (so it had been over-rested and not kept warm) and the sauce that came with was also cold. Nothing worse than having to carve through a cold steak. So I was disappointed and felt underwhelmed by the food. The child's dessert we'd ordered for our daughter took over 20mins to arrive. Again a quick walk past the serving area and it was found sitting there melting. I asked it that was ours and the staff said yes you can take it. So there we were serving ourselves! All this being said the staff were polite and courteous. They did the best they could. But there didn't seem to be anyone running the meals and the food itself was overpriced.
