Storming Crab - My scallops were over cooked and not that great. - Seafood Near Me - Louisville, Kentucky

I went to Storming Crab for the first time in a couple of years (since getting my braces), and let me just say -- it did not disappoint. We started off with a few appetizers to share between four of us, and they were actually really interesting. I tried this crab cake that had what tasted like another type of crab cake inside of it -- I've never had anything like that before, but it was really good and definitely unique. The honey barbecue wings though? Those were TO DIE FOR. Easily one of my favorite things we ordered. The hushpuppies, on the other hand, were small and pretty mid -- definitely something I could've done without. For the main, we went with the seafood deal, which came out to about $163, and honestly it was still a solid value for how much food you get. It included about a pound each of two different types of crab, two pounds of shrimp, a pound of sausage, corn, potatoes, and two lobsters. And let me tell you -- those lobsters were so juicy and meaty. I've never had lobster like that before. Easily one of the highlights of the whole meal. Just a heads up -- it does not come with eggs, which we didn't realize until we were already eating, so definitely add that if you want it. We got the Cajun seasoning with a hot level, and it was SO good. I learned their house Cajun is basically a mix of all their seasonings, which makes sense because the flavor was hitting. Everything came out super hot and fresh, and we even had leftovers. They say it feeds 4-6 people, but realistically, I'd say it's perfect for about 4 people if you're actually hungry. Drinks were also a highlight. They have $5 lemon drops specifically on Thursdays, which is a great deal. The mango lemon drop was AMAZING -- hands down the best flavor. The passionfruit and strawberry didn't hit the same for me, and just a heads up, some flavors cost an extra dollar, which we weren't told upfront. But I will say -- after a mango and a passionfruit one, it definitely hit. Service overall was good, and you honestly couldn't tell our server was new, but we did have one issue -- we asked multiple times for eggs and they were forgotten. Between the missing add-on, the inconsistency with some of the lemon drop flavors, and that small service slip, it was enough for me to knock off a star. That said, the food, portions, and overall experience were still really strong. read more

I'm eating my boil and I pull a hair out of my food. I usually never have an issue with this place but today I am disgusted!! After paying $54 this is the last ingredient I expected! The service over the phone was very quick and abrupt as if they were busy when taking my order over the phone. When I got there no one was in the parking lot so it was NOT busy and there was no rush! I am not happy with the overall cleanliness and now I have wasted money because I can't even finish this!! read more

Outside of the sausage being overcooked, I had a great meal. The server was pleasant and the restaurant was clean (I'd seen otherwise on other reviews). It was fairly empty as I was having a late lunch. I would go back to that location again. read more

Took our daughter here, we're all pretty big eaters when it comes to good food but try as we may, we could not finish all the food that was brought to us lol. Food was hot and delicious and just what was expected. It's a pricey place but well worth it. For 150 bucks 1 order fed us all and the leftovers fed others. I recommend asking for extra wet wipes and wearing the bib! read more

First thing don't come here in a hurry. The service was a bit slow but once our order was taken, we received it in a very short time. The appetizer bread wasn't our thing but might be yours. It tasted like it had a bit too much mayonnaise in it. The clams we got as appetizers were very tender and delicious the best we've eaten in a while l I ordered the broiled, shrimp and scallops with potato and corn, and they were very fresh. I really enjoyed my meal. My wife had the fried shrimp and fish, but she was not as impressed with the batter as she was fried clams we've just eaten. However they both were good and fresh. The graffiti walls and music for the atmosphere wasn't our thing but the food more than made up for. The food here is excellent and that's the main thing! read more

Storming Crab - Shrimp & Scallops combo - Seafood Near Me - Louisville, Kentucky

Seafood establishment right on outer loop in the okolona area of Louisville located right in front of the Jefferson Mall. Very vibrant and cool decor on the outside and the inside as well. Lots of fun cartoon murals and unique decorations. They also allow people to write on there walls with sharpies. This establishment opened up this year and there a lot of names, nicknames and 2021 marked dates spread all over the walls. However, the thing that seems like the trend is people promoting there tik tok accounts, there Instagram pages and there YouTube channels. Me being the super awesome person I am decided to switch it up. I promoted my upcoming (this one) yelp review with a "check out my review on Yelp! Joseph G" message. Any-who, moving on. I arrived last night with my family of 6. It was a random Tuesday night past 8pm so there was no wait at all. We got seated rather quickly and we had a really nice and personable waiter. I'm going to be honest. This place has popped up as "hot and new" on my yelp and it isn't too far from my house. However, I wasn't in a rush or excited to try it. Cajun boil while very popular just isn't my "cup of tea". Side note I don't like tea either. So it isn't my "glass of bourbon". There, I like that saying much better. However, my wife and oldest love cajun boils so we gave this place a shot. I was wrong to doubt this place. We all loved our food. Ironically, none of us even got a Cajun boil. My wife ordered the gumbo with a salad. The salad was massive and she it was tasty. She loved her gumbo as well. Said it had very great flavors and wasn't overly spicy. My oldest daughter got a crawfish fancy creole word. Can't remember the full name. But it was basically a soup with rice and I assume crawfish. Once again not my "glass of bourbon" so I didn't sample it. But she loved it. She tried something new and it won her over. I'm sure she will get broil next time but if she doesn't she will want This dish again for sure. They had a small section of fried food platters that came with a side so I personally ordered an 8 piece shrimp with corn on the cob. They actually had calamari listed on this section and not as an appetizer and one of the sides you could choose from was cheese sticks. To me that's a dream app to combine those two dishes. So I ordered the calamari entree with cheese sticks as my side to sample and share with my two youngest daughters. My second oldest got her traditional chicken nugget kids meal. The shrimp was really good, great flavor, decent size and nice tasting crispy breading. The calamari and cheese sticks came out together in a fry basket and they looked kinda cheap and not that appealing. However, they were both phenomenal. The calamari had great flavor and good tasting breading. The orangish brown sauce (no idea what it is called) it came with I had my reservations about. But, it was also top notch. Added a nice different flavor to it. Cheese sticks didn't come with any marinara sauce however they didn't need it. Nice and cheesy with once again great tasting breading (seems to be a positive trend). Me and my two youngest including the one year old smashed all the calamari and cheese sticks. My second oldest said the chicken nuggets were solid. She ate them all and she is super picky so that's a win for the storming crab and mom and dad. Pricing was pretty good. For all of that it was just under $60. So can't beat that. Now I will warn you the whole menu isn't cheap. The crabs and shrimp by the pound and broils can get pricey. I just got lucky and went on a night where my wife and oldest daughter opted for something different. Next visit I'm sure the bargain eating will even out on me. But, it is good to know that you can get a very tasty and filling meal at a bargain at this place as well Overall this is a great addition to the Louisville scene. I'm sure we will be back (the wife and oldest are gonna eventually want the boil). Next time I won't be hesitant. I'll just eat my shrimp, calamari and cheese sticks and be in fried food heaven. The vibe to this place is really different and cool. My big concern is there sure is a lot of crab/seafood establishments popping up in the okolona area. Red lobster practically next store has been a mainstay for probably 30 years at this location and not even a half mile down the road on outer loop is another crab place they are building (captains crab). Both these places were under construction at the same time. Storming crab has happened to open first. Seems like they will have a lot of competition. However, from what my experience the storming crab is equipped to handle that competition. Highly recommended to all to come and give it a try. If anything use it as a platform to hype up your yelp reviews to help even out with the tik tok accounts written on the wall. read more

Today is my second time trying Storming Crab and let me tell you hands down this was much better than going to the one a I went to few weeks! Atmosphere: Great This restaurant opened up a few months ago here and I was excited to try this one out. Walking in to this restaurant I could smell the food through my mask lol. The restaurant felt cleaner which I loved. Customer Service: Good The customer service here was good. I say good because no went went above abs beyond. The staff was friendly. Nothing bad to say about the staff. They were willing to help. Food ordered: Two orders of Soft Shell Crab Seafood Bread sticks This food let me tell you was amazing. The soft shell crab was lightly battered and could taste the crab this time. Absolutely wonderful. The breadsticks were also amazing I'm a little disappointed because I should've ordered two instead of one. Those breadsticks are #epic. One day soon I'm coming back just to order the seafood breadsticks. read more

They buy their "fresh" seafood from the frozen section in Sam's Club frequently. Storming crab please don't go on the news claiming to have seafood flown in several times a week. This was the worst experience ever! I ordered a pound of crab legs, when my order showed up via door dash I had one crab leg in my order! Then door dash refunded me so I reordered the same day an hour later and again I ordered a pound of crab legs and 1 crab leg was given!! What a rip off! This place is two expensive to not get what you order. And I can understand 1 mistake, but not 2 mistakes the same day an hour apart! Needless to say doordash would not refund it this time! Stay away from this restaurant especially ordering off door dash if you don't want to be completely ripped off! read more

Loved the chill atmosphere, got to write my name on the wall and eat delicious food, only complaint is that it gets cold in there

One of my favorite seafood spots- hands down. Had to try the new one on outerloop since it's close to home! First of all I will say the food is just as good as it always has been. Fresh, full of flavor ( I get old bay butter) and a fun mess! Interior was bright and fun, very clean and well put together since it was a remodel! My only complaint was the staff. They seemed confused, disconnected, and disorganized. Everyone working at the bar upon walking in was more into their cellphone then the customers which was disappointing. They were on their phones upon arriving and when leaving. The bar tender also did not know how to make a " bourbon and water with a splash of diet" which blew my mind since this is the bourbon state and we just explained to you how to make it lol Our waitress was very nice and attentive but also seemed disconnected upon serving us. The hostess were talking poorly about the other staff and I feel like that is highly unprofessional. But besides the staff being a mess the food was just terrific and because of that I will definitely be back for another shot! read more

Storming Crab - #6 crab, shrimp in old bay butter spice level medium! - Seafood Near Me - Louisville, Kentucky

Nope. After a second visit and a different entree ordered, I can safely say that Storming Crab is not for me. The soft shell crab basket was awful and the oil used was old. The onion rings were definitely from a bag and not housemade. My husband's gator poboy was absolutely nothing to write home about; everything just tasted like the fryer. The seaood bread is good but it's made with imitation crab so it would be easy to make it at home. The service is super friendly but it's so insanely slow that it makes it impossible for this place to be a lunch spot. I'm sure this place will succeed as it is a chain. I, however, am unlikely to return. read more

This place just opened and my mom invited me to try it out (obviously I can't say no to seafood). First off the name is incredible, love the name, second they redecorated the interior from what ocharleys had it to a beautiful oceanic theme (love it). I'll get the bad out of the way first, the place wasn't super busy and the service was still a bit slow but I'm not knocking a star down for that because the staffs attitude and the food definitely made up for it! We ordered the number 5 dinner combo which comes with A pound of king grab, shrimp (headless), craw fish (head, shell and all) green mussels, potatoes, sausages and also corn on a cob. For 59 bucks it was a massive feast and well worth the price. Something to note that I forgot we added shrimp to the combo which brought the price up another 15-18 bucks or so but it's a whole pound of delicious shrimp. The seafood here was to die for, everything tastes fresh and the seasoning was out of the world. Nothing tasted very fishy and it was all mouth watering. Both my mom and I are seafood lovers and we love finding places and trying out new seafood and not everyplace holds up but I promise you this place does. If you have a cool $60 to $100 (keep in mind they do have cheaper food and combo options) burning a hole in your wallet and love seafood do yourself a favor and come to this place. Oh and before I forget for the love of god order their seafood bread. I'm not a religious man but when I bit into that bread I could've sworn I died and went to heaven (it's insanely good). We are already planning to return soon to try our their lobster! We can't wait! Bravo on the grand opening and bravo on having great food! read more

New crab spot down in Okolona and one that is definitely worth a try!!! The decor is great and gives a beach vibe. They had just received their liquor license when we went so no beer. Next time. You get two pieces of the seafood bread when you sit down and while I was initially skeptical it lasted one bite and now I'm addicted. Ya all that seafood bread is the bomb diggity!!! Let's just say I'm on a mission to recreate this at home. Got the king crab legs and shrimp. We shared a meal and I'm glad we did!! We also got the hush puppies and okra appetizer. I firmly believe the okra was an entire bag because there was a ton!! Food was great. Staff was awesome. We managed to get super messy. We will be back. read more

4 stars because the food is great, but the service could use some work. The hostess is very unwelcoming. The waitress rushed us when ordering anything and if you order any of the combos, you can only get headless shrimp. I don't recommend ordering the rice at all. It was hard and it came in a sauce dipping cup. It's not worth the money. The Oysters and Green mussels are huge which was definitely a plus. The overall flavor or the seafood boil was delicious. If you get a combo, it comes with 3 sides. I got corn, sausage, and potatoes-- they give you a big serving of the sides. If you love crawfish, I definitely recommend getting more than one pound. The place is a bit pricey, but it's worth it. It will definitely satisfy your craving for seafood. read more

I was pretty disappointed in this place. First of all Harley anybody was there so that should've been a sign for Saturday night. The food is OK pretty pricey I had two small drinks and they were 8.50 piece. The drink was so weak I might've just been drinking Sprite. I can't even begin to explain how terrible the experience. Ordered oysters... hair in the platter... $12 ordered wings- I have small hands but for each wing- 12 piece to be significantly smaller than my pinky finger- for $10... no meat. Ordered the platter of Dungeness crab/shrimp/clams for $54 came with 2 crab legs- which I just took a breathe for and gave to my daughter it's what we went for- she cracks them there is no meat what so ever in the only two that they even gave us... the potatoes that came with were visibly rotted. I politely and calmly just asked for the check instead of making a scene because the waitress didn't care about none of it like she knew this was all wrong but oh well it's what they do here type of attitude towards it like I could get the manager but nothing would be done- wow so I'm going to be calling my bank to just dispute if nothing is done... but I don't have the energy to argue or fight and beg to be fed actual food that I'm paying for... we left HUNGRIER then we came and I had to buy us Chick-fil-A so we wouldn't be going home hungry. So after the $28 round trip uber ride and leaving HUNGRY... never ever again. I left a message for a manager so we shall see.... But I'm not going to act a fool about our entire meal and experience being the way it was. Just take accountability and make it right. So many people mistreat those in the service industry and I get it and I won't contribute to that, but don't take a crap on the good ones who are not abusive and just want a peaceful resolution. read more

An excellent place for a stop-in lunch or an excellent dinner. If you're looking for a variety of seafood, they've got it all from catfish (pictured) to mussels to, of course, crab! It cost less than $60 to feed myself and a friend, due to the seafood being sold at cost, but worth EVERY penny. The only improvements I would work on is the servers, all of whom seemed too preoccupied by their conversations to worry about our refills. Other than that, worth checking out! read more

If I could give less than 1 star I absolutely would. The food is horrible. I was born and raised in Louisiana and this by no means is even close to "Cajun" food. Of course they promote "Louisiana flavor" on their web site but strangely they don't have a single restaurant in Louisiana because it would be a huge bust. Disappointed. read more
