I asked for a simple updo for my SIL's black tie wedding. A simple, elegant low bun. What I got was a complete rat's nest on the back of my head. I have medium-length hair, easy to work with. It was piled up in random ways, pins sticking out, no hairspray, hairs flying out. I ended up paying $90 and leaving in a rush because we had photos to do, and I was almost in tears, I had to redo the entire thing myself. I called the next day and requested a refund and luckily they granted it, but the manager was extremely short with me. I will NOT be going back ever. read more

Amy did an excellent job on my colour correction going from black to brown. She was attentive while listening to what I wanted and even accommodating a last minute change from what we discussed in the consultation. Throughout the process she made recommendations and tried a couple ideas she had but always let me have the final decision. She's amazing!! Hannah gave me a cut and style and I'm so happy with the results!! Both ladies are simply amazing!!! I will be returning for sure! read more

Storm - Hair Salons Near Me - St. Catharines, Ontario

I have super thick and stiff Asian hair, and it was so frustrating looking for a stylist that can cut it well. Having gone to a bunch of places in both Toronto and St. Catharines (Pen Centre salons, ugh), I am so happy to finally have found Storm. I've come six times and had my hair cut by Dan, Katrina, Hannah, and Drake. I would say my favourite would be Katrina even though they all did very well. She takes the time to teach you how to style your hair and recommended products which I thought worked very well actually (and I'm usually pretty skeptical when people try to sell me things). It is definitely more expensive than what I usually pay for a haircut, but I haven't been so happy with how my hair looked before, so it is money well spent, and I will come back! Parking is free and easy. They're pretty busy so I recommend making an appointment, which can be done online too. read more

I've been using the salon often on for the past couple of years. My past two experiences have been disappointing to say the least. Two visits ago my stylist was 20 minutes late, and had no care in the world that he was late as I stood in the lobby for 20 minutes. At the end of the appointment, my hair looked no different than it did when I walked in. He barely spoke to me the entire visit, and spent more time talking to one of the girls working there. The last time I went, my stylist was again late, however, it wasn't too long of a wait for her. She was easier to talk to, but the cut itself wasn't impressive. At the end, I asked about my hair health, saying that to me it felt dry, and she said no, it's fine and walked away from me. It was a very weird interaction. Today I called to try to just get an appointment for a colour and blow dry, I spent almost 10 minutes on hold with no one answering. So I hung up. A lot has changed since I first started going there years ago. I don't know if there was a management change or what, but the vibe is totally different than what it was. read more

When I moved to St. Catharines, I wanted to find a local Aveda trained stylist to cut my hair because I was tired of commuting to Toronto every 6 weeks. After 4 years of trying different stylists at Storm, I can loudly say that this place is terrible. None of the stylist I had were ever trained in Aveda cuts. Colour maybe, but not cuts. This seems curious for a place that positions itself as an Aveda concept salon. If I could, I would give this place a 0 because after every cut, I leave feeling as though I have been overcharged for a bad hair cut. The customer service both at the front desk and by the senior stylist who has been cutting my hair lately is pretty lousy too. The service at this place is so terrible that this salon resorts to employing a 3rd party to manage its online presence. Demand Force positions itself as an online booking company that also solicits reviews from customers. Storm then, has the ability to "certify" reviews they they see fit, while deleting unsatisfactory comments, such as mine. What results, is hundreds of reviews giving this place 5 stars. Seriously?! I can't be the only one who has left this salon disappointed. The fake reviews have sealed the deal. Will definitely not be coming back here again! There are other salons in Niagara. read more

I decided to try Storm St. Catharines last year, as I wanted to find a salon closer to my home, instead of making the lengthy trek to my salon in Toronto (I lived in the Niagara Region at the time). I found Storm on the internet, was impressed by the website, and the impression that this site gave was that it was an upscale salon that kept up with current trends. I gave the salon a call, and informed the receptionist that I had problematic, curly, thick hair that would take a lengthy amount of time to cut and style. I said to her " I need to have my hair done on Saturday. Who would be the best person on staff to handle my hair? They would need to have a lot of strength to handle it, plus extra time would be needed." The receptionist said that although Saturday was a pretty busy day, she would recommend Paul, who is a senior stylist. I once again confirmed with her that he would have the time and energy to do my hair, and she said yes, he did. I booked the appointment. When I showed up on Saturday, the appointment started off well. I received an amazing scalp massage with oils, was offered a drink, and the interior of the salon looked modern and trendy. Things proceeded to go downhill very quickly after that. Paul Rodriguez came up to me, and from the start, had a very snippy, negative attitude. He asked me what I would like to have done, I told him I needed good layering, thinning out of some of the thickness, and a blow-dry/flat-iron combo to straighten it out. He replies, very haughtily, "Did you call in and say that you would need extra time for your hair? I wish I had known this beforehand; I don't have a lot of time today." As a matter of fact, YES, I did. Maybe it's a matter of poor communication between you and the staff, you pompous jerk bag. Despite thinking this, I made a point of being polite to him when I spoke, as I thought that maybe he would lighten up a bit and start to be pleasant (P.S. - didn't happen). He continued to make snippy comments and grumble throughout the entire haircut, which made me very uncomfortable. I ended up having triangle head at the end of the cut, virtually no layering was done. He did a poor job blowdrying and flat ironing my hair, to the point where it was still rather puffy and frizzy by the time I left. I didn't bother fighting with him about it, because he was basically trying to rush me out of there, it would have been no use; he truly has the attitude of "I, the Stylist am always right, and the client be damned." This guy is supposedly a seasoned stylist, and he did a hack job on my hair, and had a horrible attitude to boot. I always strive to avoid writing completely negative reviews, but my experience at Storm St. Catharines with Paul Rodriguez was so awful, I thought that potential clients should know about it before they make their final decision to select this salon. I ended up paying an arm and a leg for a horrible cut, and unprofessional attitude. Try Lavo at the Pen Centre in St. Catharines; they are very kind, courteous, and do quality work there. read more

Colour I asked for a root cover job. (I have platinum hair colour & black roots). The colourist said over and over she could not spend much time because she was so busy. This was a lie. As time went by she admitted she had time because no appointment came in. She did an amateur job. I could have bought a box of blond dye and done the same job dyeing them a light tan colour. I thought hair salons would know how to deal with the roots. She said the next time it would look better. Style I asked several times to (the hairdresser that I wanted beachy waves. (And did he keep up his training to know how). He said yes but lied. I had a picture but he was not interest at looking at it which was rude. He gave me an ordinary short layered cut...nothing special and an old lady hair style. He blow dried my hair with a brush and did not bother using the required curling iron. I kept waiting for the curling iron to come out but realized he had no clue how to do the style. I walked out with mediocre straight hair by brush. He did not know how to use a curling iron. I ended up walking out looking like nothing happened to my hair for $178. I felt cheated. This is a lot of money for a senior. I gave clear instructions numerous times and a photo. What more could I do? I may be a senior but that's no excuse to revert to an old lady hair style. Because I'm soft hearted I still left a top. Stupid! read more

I booked an appointment to this place because of the high reviews on google. Honestly i was disappointed... not so much on the outcome but on the service. I called in to book an appointment and i specifically said i wanted a full hair color..so my whole head was going to be dyed. As i walked in and sat down with the lady that colored it (i believe was anne marie) she touched my hair and said she only had 20 to 30 min with me. Excuse me? But dying your entire head takes much longer than 30 minutes which i made clear with the lady who booked my appointment. She kept telling me next time to book for an "ombre" that way she has more time with me. However i did not want an "ombre" i wanted 1 solid color. Also it should never be ur customers issue that YOUR STAFF over booked. You shouldnt be lecturing them on what to tell the person on the phone.. all we know is COLOR & CUT. I never said highlights..i never said root touch up.. i said full hair dyed. So if you overbook, either reschedule someone else or let them wait. The entire time she seemed very rushed. She assured me that she would TRY to do what i wanted and as soon as her next client came in she was swinging her brush so fast she was dropping hair dye all over the floor and throwing towels on top of it. It was not very professional especially to witness after the first time being there. She seemed to care more about her next customer than the one sitting in her chair. May i also add that she was chewing gum the entire time..people who are working with hair should not be chewing gum. Um what if that falls in my hair?! On the other hand the girl who cut my hair was wonderful . She is the only reason i gave this 2 stars and not 1. She talked to me about life got to know me a little bit. And she did a great job. Her name was hannah (i think). Which surprised me because i believe she told me she was fairly new. Unfortuntaly i would never go back to this place nor would i ever recommend it. This salon over charges for both the customer service and hair services. They are great until you have a problem and then the attitude starts. They are untrained in how to handle customer issues and if you go here you will likely have issues. My only recommendation is to take your hard earned money elsewhere. read more

Dear Storm Hair Group, I do not like complaining or writing bad reviews but in this case I feel like it is necessary. On Monday, I came in for a simple haircut. I only asked two things; that my hair was not cut past my shoulders, and that I wanted layers to thin out my hair because it is thick. What I received was embarrassing. The stylist had split my hair into two - the bottom layer and the top layer - from there they had cut the bottom layer super short (just at my shoulders) and then the top layer was left long. At the end of the haircut, they had stated that they "did not blend the two layers together so that it gave the impression of layers." I did not ask for the impression of layers, I had asked for layers. I realized that this haircut was not great, but I do not like to make scenes or create situations, so I thanked the stylist, paid and left. When arriving home, I looked at my hair and it was completely - as said by another hair stylist not at your studio - botched. My hair did not blend well, my hair was uneven and chunky in places. Below I have attached a close up picture of my hair as an example. Today I went to another hair salon to get it fixed and the stylist there outright told me that they had no idea what the stylist at your establishment was thinking, and due to how uneven my hair was, we had to cut more off than anticipated in order to fix what he had done. This is not the first time I have been disappointed with your service. A year ago I came here and although I did like the haircut I received, the stylist who did my hair complained the entire time about how I should have told reception that I wanted extensive things done to my hair and that it would take a long time - I only wanted a wash and a cut. The money I paid at your establishment I knew was pricy, but I since you had a good reputation I was fine with paying for quality. However, I did not receive that, and after these last two experiences I will not be coming there again. read more

I've waited years to balayage my hair and finally took the plunge after researching salons that are experienced in this. My mom is a hairdresser, but hasn't done the balayage technique so she recommended I go to someone experienced! So, I showed the colourist photos of what I wanted to achieve. After all was said and done, it looked like I got a regular head of foiled highlights. Something I could have gotten done at no cost and it would have looked just as good. There was nothing wrong with the highlights themselves, it was just not the result I had been anticipating. I wanted that painted-on effect, where the hair is darker on top and blond pieces throughout..with the ends being lighter....and it turned out that aside from the dark roots..which I already had...my whole head was just highlighted blond. no dimension...it didn't look like balayage at all... and since the salon charges for a blow out and style, I didn't realize the extent of how my hair actually looked until I got home and finished blow drying and styling it. So just disappointed, and I am now looking for another salon who actually does free painted on balayage! If anyone can recommend, that would be great. read more

I have NEVER had an unpleasant experience or bad haircut! Their pedicurist is the best in Ontario and their colourists know their stuff!! Horrible place! Dyed my hair one colour the girl missed so many spots had to redo it all again same thing happened the second time then the owner comes to fix it doesn't even apologize and then he tells me my hair need to be dyed darker which I did not want at all!!!! I went in for an ombre colour with Soleil and she did a fantastic job. I am thrilled with the results, however it did cost an arm and a leg to get finished. The end result was over $200.00, I would have opted out of the $30.00 blow dry had I known that wasn't factored into the original quote of what I was given. read more

I've been a client of storms for a longtime and for a longtime now I've had 1 awful experience after another, I'm not sure what's happened to this salon, maybe their attitude has changed since moving into a big new space but every time I would mention that the Color wasent right I would get major attitude like I should feel bad about it, and spending over 300 and buying hair products you think that they would at least try to remedy the problem, I'm not a complainer by any means but I think after paying that much money I should have a good experience. read more
