It was a fun, unique and memorable experience that our group of six really enjoyed.

I was even more excited that we did not have to actually paddle the boat as the captain was able to maneuver without our help. It was very hot that day and I did not want to mess up my outfit. Two of the best perks were 1) being allowed to bring food and drinks due to them having built in coolers in the table area. There were also extra cooler bags brought by the hostess. 2) having a bathroom on board made for an even more comfortable experience. The staff assisted with taking pictures, making sure there was a speaker for music, and simply answering any questions we might have had while aboard. There is an option to give tips and I highly recommend having cash or venmo/cashapp options as it was worth every penny to tip them. This is a review for Captain Mike's private eagle tour…read more My fiancee's family and I booked a 2 hour private eagle tour this recent week and it was one of the most fantastic experiences I've had in Richmond! Our tour started bright and early at 7:30 AM out of a private yacht club dock on Captain Mike's pontoon boat. He provides everything you'll need for the trip from water for hydration, binoculars for avian viewing, and blankets if you decide to not dress warm enough. There is easily seating for at least 6 on the boat itself. There are restrooms right by the dock as well. Mike as a tour guide was fantastic. There's a difference between simply knowing what you're talking about versus being truly passionate about it, and Mike is absolutely the latter. Our tour brought us through 5 resident eagle territories (eagle pairs are extremely territorial and rarely cross boundaries), and Mike knew the names, history, boundaries, and interesting quirks about each pair. We saw at least one eagle from all of the pairs, and half of the time both the male and the female. He is also very knowledgeable about many of the other birds on the river like osprey, herons, cormorants, and kingfishers. Mike also keeps a stash of fish on the boat to feed the eagles and bring them in close. I knew we would see eagles on the tour, but I no idea that we'd be maybe 20 feet from them. There's a big difference between seeing one in a tree or a zoo versus seeing one swooping down in front you scooping up a fish to bring back to a tree or their nearby nest. It's really quite a breathtaking experience. The stretch of river itself is nice in its own right as well. If for some weird (and wrong) reason that you're not interested in learning about the majestic birds of the river, you could just sit back and enjoy a nice boat ride down the James. In my opinion it is absolutely worth it. There's a wealth of knowledge to learn about from Captain Mike, and everything was just a great experience. Absolutely recommend.

He is incredibly knowledgable about the area sites and local waters, providing an excellent guided tour. Given Captain Dave's extensive boat handling experience and service with the U.S. Coast Guard, I felt very safe and comfortable on the water. Finally got to experience the Riverfront Canal Cruise for the first time for my birthday! It was a…read morereally fun time and I found the seats to be surprisingly comfy. Our cruise was quite full, so I would recommend getting their around 20 minutes early if you have a preference of where you sit. The ticket prices felt very fair as they were about $15 each for a 45 minute ride. It is in the heart of downtown so its mainly street parking, there is a paid lot slightly further down that is 12 dollars for the day. The cruise itself is fun as you float down the canal and learn more about the history in the area. We went around 3pm which was the perfect time as it wasn't too hot but still sunny enough to enjoy. While I had a great time, I think it was more so a novel experience. The ride felt a bit short with the sights remaining quite consistent since the canal is small/short. I don't think I would do it again as it would feel repetitive, but for the first time canal cruiser I think they would have a great time!

They shuttled us into the Chesapeake Bay and got us on fish very quickly. Each veteran took turns reeling in Bluefish and Spanish Mackerel. We could not have asked for better weather or seas. The fishing was so good we limited on bluefish by 1045 and missed our limit on mackerels by one. We cannot wait to work with Captain Billy and his team again.
