I've taken many rides on the Miss Rivershore out of Occoquan and always enjoyed the history of that area. It was very relaxing and interesting learning what went on between RE Lee & the British further down the Potomac. Lunch at Tim's Rivershore was delicious. When we were ready to return to Leesylvania State Park all it took was a phone call and the boat was there in 15 min.

We were scheduled to leave on Sunday at 10:15 am. We were at Madigan's by 10:10 am. Not super early, but not late. No boat in sight. My wife and I wait in the cold for ten minutes assuming it is them who are running behind. I call Captain Mark. He had the nerve to tell me they left at 10:15 am as scheduled. Not only did he not leave at the scheduled time, he left so early that we didn't even see him down the river when we got there; it's not exactly a speed boat. It's ok though, he said he was real sorry after he lied through his teeth, but that he couldn't come back, because he was already 20 minutes out. Hmmm...how are you 20 min away if you left at 10:15? I admit that we were not there as early as other people, but there were so many better ways to handle the situation. He had my contact information, he could have called or emailed me and asked for my ETA. I would even be fine if he had called or emailed ahead of time and said, "It's cold and windy, and all the other people are here 20 minutes early, so I'm going to leave now, I'm sorry". Instead he was willing to lie about it, gambling on us getting there later than 10:15. I usually enjoy supporting small businesses, but I have zero desire to support someone like this. Luckily, Livingsocial processed our refund and I don't have to interact with him again. Show up early, or you might be left standing on the dock!

The two of them make a great team. It's obvious from their introduction that they love sharing their passion of sailing with others. Before we even got to the dock I was in contact with Josh on the phone and email. He responded quickly and was happy to offer some amenities. Josh offered me a few pick up locations and offered to drop us at our hotel marina. Once on the boat we covered a quick but thorough safety brief. We toured the river before entering the bay. Carmelita and Josh made suggestions for restaurants and other activities on Solomons and pointed them out as we passed them. Our tour took us around Solomons Island and under the bridge at sunset. Carmelita took pictures of us the whole time and shared them with us after the tour. It was great talking with them about how they got into sailing and how they learned their craft. The boat was clean and appeared to be sound. On the way back lighting storms were surrounding us. The light show was really cool to watch. The storm was about 30 miles so there was no danger and we felt safe the Josh and Carmelita were keeping an eye on the weather. I would definitely recommend their tour or charter service. They were great hosts and provide a memorable experience. You should book your tour now.

How many times can you say, "I rented a private yacht for the night?" Not very often when you're…read morein my income bracket. But thanks to my job and my role in planning meetings and events, I got to finally check renting a yacht off my list. Setting up the event was easy. A phone call, talking through options and placing a deposit secured the boat. It wasn't inexpensive, but it also wasn't bad since food and drinks are included for our 25 guests. For food, there are several options to choose from. You can do appetizer stations, have appetizers passed while people are enjoying cocktails, or you can skip apps and just do dinner. For dinner we opted for a sit down meal, but they also offer a buffet. For the plated meal, you get to choose two proteins, a starch and a vegetable. I chose a filet, mahi mahi, potatoes and carrots. The meal also comes with a spinach salad and bread. They kept the drinks flowing throughout, and for dessert we selected the chocolate cake. The boat is nice, the staff super, and cruising around is awesome! Sadly, the food is the low point. For appetizers we had a mix of things, including seared beef, spanakopita, samosas, chicken satay and bruschetta. The appetizers were pretty good but the bruschetta was served on stale crackers. I always thought the point of bruschetta was the bread. Also disappointing was the filet and mahi mahi. The filet was ordered medium to accommodate different tastes...middle of the road, I figured. Every filet was well done and the sauce tasted only of mustard. The fish was like shoe leather...so overdone. I ended up eating the salads and sides. I know it's difficult to cook on a boat, but what about cooking the filet whole and then carving it? Or just get someone who knows how to cook. If I were to do this again, I'd skip the food altogether, or maybe just do appetizers (I can buy the bread for them). People still had fun, even with the bad food. Just being on the water makes everything better.

We were aiming for a Cherry Blossom tour, but the trees weren't on our side this time. The cruise itself was fine, as it took us around. I didn't really notice anything of note, except the Washington Monument in the distance. (This could just be my ignorance as well.) There was a deceptive display of coffee urns and mugs, but there was not coffee. That was disappointing. The bottom deck had several chairs in rows, and upstairs there are a few tables. You can also go outside on either end of the vessel. If you are on the bottom in the back, it's really loud, as that's where the motor is. Upstairs has cushioned seats and the engine isn't as noisy up there. In the front, there is some seating as well and it can also be loud if it's windy. We didn't buy anything from the snack station as we had just eaten, but I saw that they had a decent snack selection.
