Actually nice store with great selections but expect to experience a shopping cart that will either screech when you push it, not roll at all, or cut your hand sending you to the ER when you grab the handle. I turned 21 this year, I'm out of state and haven't changed my ID ever since I've gotten my drivers license when I was 17. I tried to buy alcohol at this location and have been denied by a manager who's wears a gray shirt and a cap. Claims that I need to have a renewed ID and a New York State license to purchase alcohol and hasn't provided me any evidence of the claim he kept a defending, and that's it's New York State law. My bf had confirmed with the police that it's not a New York State law, and an out of state license shouldn't have any affect with my alcoholic purchases unless it's store policy. Therefore, after this encounter, I went to my local liquor store and showed them the exact same ID as I had shown to the staff at this stop and shop, and they proceeded with my transaction. I understand that the employees are trying to do their job, but I've asked multiple people, (this has happened previously) and said that they've never heard of this "policy" before. Unless corporate can provide a document of this policy, I will assume that I've been discriminated. read more

This stop & shop makes me miss the dirty, junkie filled Grand Unions. The people working here are absolutely the rudest on the planet. I did self checkout and I noticed how the girl working the self checkout counter just stands there and doesn't help bag your groceries or even smile. I looked up at her a few times and she just has a stank look. Same goes for every other cashier and person working in there. Don't bother bc even though YOU are the customer, and it's THEIR JOB to assist... It's far too much of a task. Beware of the deli bc I've gotten bad food over half a dozen times: chicken that tasted like plastic, cheese that was clearly starting to replicate, and egg salad that was hard. Gross. I am writing to express my severe concerns over your store's handling of COVID-19. I have found several of your staff members to not be properly wearing PPE, and tonight I ran into the worst instance yet.  At 9:40pm EST the following happened: Your store manager, Eimelie (I probably misspelled her name as I could only see it on her tag), was wearing her mask over her chin and mouth, but not covering her nose.  I asked her to put her mask on properly as I am a high risk individual and was shopping at a later hour to avoid large crowds.  She ignored my question and further comments and kept the mask off her nose.  After I paid and collected the only bag given to me I discovered that another bag was hidden behind the checkout counter.  I had to go back to collect my items, and discovered that the supervisor continued to wear her mask incorrectly. EMPLOYEES ARE NOT ADHERING TO SOCIAL DISTANCING PROTOCOLS AT THIS STORE. I went at 8 AM to avoid the crowds. However, the people working there, especially the cashiers are not staying 6 feet away from the customers. I had to go to a cashier since I had a rain check to redeem. However, because the only cashier operated registers were next to each other, I was sandwiched between them while they were having a heated conversation. (In retrospect, I should have gone to the outside one.) One was behind a Plexiglas but the one closer to me was not and was talking thru me to continue her conversation and not respecting distance. Items to note: - Self checkout was backed up at 8 AM. Not sure how it is at other times of the day. - All sales are now final. - No refunds, returns, or new rainchecks are being issued if they are out of stock. Suggestions to Stop and Shop - Don't open cashier lanes next to each other. There were only 2 open out of over 15 checkout lanes and they had to be next to each other? That's a fault of management. - Everyone is stressed at this time and no one wants to be at the store. I respect that the cashiers have opinions but they can't endanger the customers because the cashiers believes that prayer will protect them. I would have preferred to send this directly to Stop and Shop but they've disabled the Contact Us email on their site. Suffice it to say I will not be back here. read more

All I wanna say to Stop & Shop, screw them. For providing me for such a horrible shopping experience. It's not like what it use to be back in the day. I don't know what's changed here since. I was recently shopping here to get a cake for my daughter's friend. I shop here from time to time. I noticed one of the clerks who worked in the bakeshop was not there. Don't remember his name but he was a fine young man who seemed honest and kind. Don't know where he is but was I afraid to ask. I get my cake and no one was there to write on it. The last time I went for a cake here was for my daughter. The fine young man did a swell job writing on it and was able to find the decorations I needed. I wish him the best, he was one of the only associates who actually did their job unlike the other workers here I saw being simply lazy. So I went to the front desk to ask if there's someone to write on the cake. There wasn't anyone there so I had wait for over ten minutes til a very short lady came to the desk with an attitude. She called me impatient and slow. She tried to call if someone was there but as I went to the bakery, no one was there so I just had to go without a writing. As I keep shopping, the prices were too high and there was none of the items I needed were in stock. So as I finish shopping with hardly anything I needed, I overhear what seemed to be the manager with a beard gossiping about other associates' performance. I didn't pay attention much. There's a long line and out of all the fifteen lanes, only two are open. Like why? Why does Stop & Shop have to be like this? Like anyone hardly ever shops here? Wrong! The two cashiers were next to each other chatting with each other, and they seemed bored out of their minds. I just wanted to get out as quickly as I can. Once finished, I leave the store never wanting to come back here again. Here's my statement for Stop & Shop, what happened to your company? Why is your staff here so unprofessional, especially the front end guys? And what happened to the young man in the bakery? I hate to knock a local business but seriously- ONE (1) cash register open for a dozen people with full carts? Again? Shame on management, not just for making paying customers wait too long, but for hanging a bunch of kids out to dry with seemingly no one over the age of 19 or 20 who could explain to us why the place is a shambles. The stop and shop in ossining is okay. They have gotten a lot better since the last time I've been there. Their produce is still lacking and often doesn't taste good but their grocery is very good. They always have stocked shelves and good deals on items. Even when they don't have the items they give rain checks for them and offer you a limit of 10 which makes saving money at the store so good. Their customer service is amazing with very helpful employees and mangers also be outstanding. I will also say that they are sometimes under staff with only like 2 cashiers or 3 which isn't enough sometimes unlike other stores with 6 or 5. They are friendly people who are dedicated to helping you. Weekends seem to be the busy days at the store so shopping there on a Friday is almost always good since they have lots of cashiers. I haven't tried their deli so I can't say much but I knew they have amazing chicken. The bakery there is good but sometimes they forget your order but they always give you a refund or a cake for free since they messed up. They're Health and beauty is very small but has the necessary items you need. The Meat something I don't usually get at stop and shop. I will go to c town or la placita which is nearby. If I have to get meat from the store, their nature promise which is their organic selection which is affordable and delicious. read more

The new Stop and Shop in Ossining is much, much better than the one in Tarrytown. For that reason, I shop here quite a bit. It is generally clean, well stocked and orderly. It does, however, suffer from the same poor customer service as every Stop and Shop I've ever been to. Someone at Stop and Shop Headquarters (wherever that is) really needs to address their poor customer service- all the people that work there seem to absolutely hate it. They need some "funner" managment or something! I love the new handheld scanners they have here! I feel like other people think it is a gimmick but it's not! The device will keep track of how much you are spending and give you special deals on stuff you like to buy. Plus, while it is annoying to bag while you shop, it is SO nice at the end to just scan a barcode and pay without waiting to bag everything. I hope this program continues. read more

Staff drastically reduced..Never enough registers open. Prices are not even competitive. The only reason I would shop here now are convenience and hours. Is that enough? You be the judge. I have to admit that because the location is so close by, I am there more than I'd like to be. They seem to be going more downhill everyday. The vegetable section is pathetic and has expired dates on Items all the time. I rarely buy fish - but the few times I have, it's been fine. The attitudes of the people who work there are terrible. I have personally helped several people find things because they were new to the market and had no one else to ask. I was in line like the other customers. When it was my turn to be served (I was the last one), the female staff told me she needed to go outside for the other customer. She didn't even tell me if I could wait for like 5 minutes, or she'll find somebody else to help me out. She just dismissed me like "Sorry, this counter is closed. Come back later. Bye!" I love taking a box or bag of salad home and finding the core to be a ball of sludgy muck akin to what I pull from my gutters in the fall. My brother is 32 years old, but due to a brain tumor he had removed when he was young he looks much younger. My brother does not produce hormones that a normal person would as his tumor damaged his pituitary gland. He will never produce testosterone so he will never look like a "man". He has lived 32 years of life but only has the coping skills of a 13-14 year old. He is mentally and physically challenged but desires and strives hard to maintain a normal lifestyle. He will never be able to live alone but he is able to function in some capacity at normal day to day actions within stress/situation limitations. On February 18, 2010 my brother visited the Stop & Shop in Ossining. He purchased a few items and attempted to cash lotto tickets he had previously purchased at Stop & Shop Lotto vending machine. The customer service personnel asked him for his license. He has a Georgia license and she said she would need to have it verified by a store manager. The manager came from the office and looked at my brother and his ID. He commented that the ID was "fake" and he was not 32 years old. He would not let him cash in or purchase lotto tickets. My brother said he was extremely rude to him then turned his back and walked away. We understand it is hard to see through my brothers outward appearance and have misunderstandings of his physical appearance - it is nothing new- BUT to come across a rude manager is a more rare experience since my brother always shares information about his situation. Initially I was not angry with the manager, partially because I wasn't there to see the confrontation and also because my brother has to face adversity on a day to day basis. I immediately went to the Stop & Shop in Ossining and asked for the manager. When he came from the office I introduced myself and told him my brother would be staying with me for a few months. I wanted to make an introduction because my brother had a mental condition and I wanted him to be familiar with "his customers" I explained that my brother did not have a "fake ID" and that I had the paperwork to prove it. Instead of giving me a minute of undivided attention or concern he immediately got defensive and said I will not take his ID because he is not 30. My goal in speaking to the manager was to inform him and introduce my brother. We have found this helps people in the community to understand his condition. I don't care if he didn't want to accept my brother's identification, since that is his right if it is within question. But if he would have taken a moment to listen as I told him the situation it would have shown some sort of caring customer service. He was extremely rude as I tried to pull out paperwork to show him. He showed total disregard. The manager could have said I am sorry I cannot accept his ID but I apologize if you thought I was rude. But he continued to show aggression to me and my brother, walking away as I was speaking and never acknowledging what I was saying. He then said "he's not 30". He walked away laughing with 2 other cart assistants. The managers opinion and actions are extremely frustrating. I must ask you to think how it must feel to be trapped in a boy's body and to have mental limitations. I was frustrated and appalled at the attitude the manager had towards my brother and me. I can't even begin to think how hurtful this must be to process this type of encounter when you have minimal processing skills like my brother. The manager didn't have to accept his ID but he shouldn't say he isn't 32 and that he is a liar. All he had to say was that he was sorry but he couldn't take his ID. Instead he laughed at him, showed attitude and give (an incorrect) opinion of his appearance. THIS is unacceptable. I know it may be hard to fully understand the situation without hearing how the conversation was delivered or by being there personally, but I assure you I would never go through so much trouble to make a complaint without being there first hand and being appalled at the attitude and disrespect given to my brother. I was personally offended at the lack of attention to a very delicate situation. As a Stop and Shop customer who has spent THOUSANDS of dollars at the store I am embarrassed that a manager showed NO CUSTOMER SERVICE when being explained someone's disability. I have NEVER encountered anyone not caring and disregarding a customer explaining a handicapped person's disability. It was the coldest most disrespectful encounter we have ever had to deal with. I cannot stand for the disrespect of a major food grocery store insulting and frustrating a person with disability. I know is it would take heartfelt actions and understanding of people with disabilities to ever have me step foot in the Ossining store again. read more

Yesterday, the entire tank was filled with live lobsters piled up seven deep, and they were moving desperately to stay alive. No animal should be forced to live in these conditions. read more

This Stop and Shop has gone down hill fast. In the last couple of years, it has become dirty and poorly-staffed. Twice, I've bought two-packs of steak in which one of the two was so old that it stunk up my house. The "packed on" dates on the ground beef labels are two or three days AFTER the current date. Frozen food is iced up and clearly re-frozen. Are they turning off the freezers at night to save money? The latest insult to the customer is their deli counter. There is a self-service kiosk in which you can place your order and come back later to pick it up (to avoid waiting for the understaffed slicing crew, usually 1 person, to finally get to your number). But recently, they moved the pick-up bin to behind the counter so that you must now wait for a slicer to finish a task so that he can get your order and hand it to you. That demonstrates management incompetence about as well as any of the many other defects in this store. So now, whenever possible, I buy food at C-Town and A and P when I am on errands in the surrounding area. I'm tired of being insulted by this place. read more
