Good store well stocked helpful staff, fresh meats, seafood and produce nice deli and bakery.

Absolutely unacceptable experience at Stop & Shop. I've now bought bad chicken from this store TWICE--this isn't just inconvenient, it's a serious health concern. On top of that, the strawberries I purchased were moldy by the very next day, which clearly shows a lack of quality control. What's even worse is the customer service. When I returned for a refund (within their own policy limits), the staff were rude, unhelpful, and completely unprofessional. Instead of resolving the issue, they gave me a hard time and embarrassed me in front of other customers. I hope management reads this review, checks the camera recordings of what happened, and addresses this situation properly. This store clearly does not care about product quality or customer satisfaction. Selling spoiled food and then treating customers poorly when they come back is unacceptable. I will not be returning, and I strongly caution others to check their purchases very carefully before leaving. read more

This Stop and Shop store was clean, organized, and very well stocked. There were plenty of staff on the floor for assistance in locating items that have been completely rearranged. The prices at this location appear to be much higher than they are at other branches. The organic fresh food area and their Nature's Promise section is one of the best aspects of this store. They carry a full line of both fresh and frozen products for every dietary preference. read more

The staff is responsive and courteous. I have shopped here for 20 years; they have a very good selection of foreign food- fresh and in bottles, cans and boxes. I left my purse at the self-serve area and it was taken over to customer service. I was able to retrieve it within an hour. So they seem to care here! read more

Worst store ever! Cashiers & cashier managers are rude. I was accused of throwing my ID when she asked me for it she turned with her knee up and munched a donut out of a bag. I stood there & waited for her to look at me then I dropped my ID in front of her. The cashier manager said "I'd throw it right back at her!" I was floored. I will not use the self checkout as you are taking jobs away from real people and there is no discount for using the automated tellers. Other reviewers are right about the condition and freshness of the produce and fish at this location. I like Trader Joe's and fish markets. read more

Every time I have gone here no matter what time of day there's only 1 cashier it's very bizarre. There's only two self check out lines as well. The employees aren't very helpful and I find that it's actually cheaper to go to Whole Foods or Trader Joe's where it's a much nicer atmosphere/customer service experience. read more

Do NOT use the pick up service. You don't get all your bags, and they don't substitute for things as common as milk and butter. A TOTAL waste of time and effort. I wish there was another grocery store option in New Haven. I would LOVE to see a Big Y here, but Stop and Shop seems to have the monopoly. read more

The employees at the cash register are almost ALWAYS rude, non verbal and mostly uninterested. Most talk to fellow employees about not having a break or are on the cell phone. Where is the simple Hello...did you find everything you were looking for...have a nice day(please not have a good one) If you want 'customer service' I go next door to Dollar Tree...always at minimum pleasant. I shop almost entirely at Price Rite at exit 60/15 NB...prices are just the best...and getting better. Lets not even talk about the exorbitant SnS prices...geez really. read more

Sad to say this store does not care for the disabled.Michelle .who works at customer service, is rude. Danusia ,who works as a cashier,is somewhat rude.Most of the store does not care except Debbie,Dionne and Sophia,they do care! On the other hand, there is another Stop & Shop three miles down the road.It is located on 150 Walley Avenue in New Haven. Once in a while, a panhandler might ask you for a buck. The staff is pretty friendly and helpful and the product quality is good overall but the food they serve already prepared in the deli always only seems to be one thing.. Fried chicken. It gets old and they never have a good variety when I come in on my lunch break. The bathrooms are always gross in this store. It's absolutely disgusting. Same with the milk coolers. Every time I open a door to get a milk I get a waft of sour rotting milk smell and you can clearly see all the spoiled milk right in front of the racks on the floor. I've complained about all of this multiple times but they just don't seem to care because there's no other competitors in the area. All in all only shop here on a full stomach and an empty bladder and plug your nose if you need to pick up some milk. read more

I was surprised to see packs of ping pong balls being sold near the red solo cups in my local Stop & Shop yesterday. Really? Are the profits on ping pong balls that important to Stop & Shop that you would chose to make this purchase so convenient, even suggestive, when irresponsible alcohol consumption and its results (underage drinking, drunk driving, alcoholism) remain a significant problem? Several things bother me about this Stop and Shop. I grew up with Stop and Shop, and am accustomed to the chain and its stores when properly managed. They can be neat, clean, teeming with fresh product and friendly workers. If you want that, go to another Stop and Shop. Ok, well that's kind of harsh. But see below. 1-- The management and staff. Ok, some are incredibly helpful. I wish I knew your names so I could shield you from my ire toward your colleagues. But like many of the locals in New Haven, a calculated carelessness seems to be the name of the game. For example, it doesn't make sense to me that I should scan my own groceries at the self check-out and there should be two or three brain-dead looking teenagers walking around who don't bag for you, as often occurs. See also #3. 2-- Relatedly, there are NEVER enough lanes open for checkout. In addition, many of the checkout folks are downright slow. Slow as molasses as my grandpeople would say. And I know. I have bagged and checked out many a grocery order in my time. 3-- One of the night managers is absolutely evil. This will be self evident to you when you ask something in a polite manner and are completely ignored--to your face. Customer service? Pah. If you want that, go to Shaws (the one way up on Dixwell; i.e., the safe one.) Come to think of it, that might just be what I do next time. PRO: The gas pump. Footnote: Some of the clientele find it acceptable to "make" their own parking spaces (parking in front of hydrants or adding an extra row or sitting for prolonged periods in the fire lane). we stopped and shopped on 12-23-2017 at @ 6 pm. we were checking out, as my wife reached to get the money , our checker ( a white male @ 21-25, @ 300 lbs , brown hair ) picked up the instrument used to divide customers orders, and used it as a back scratcher - for @ a minute ( under his black stop and shop tee shirt ). he then placed it back on the conveyer belt. we looked at each other, we could not have been more grossed out.we try to race out of there , only to see the next customer pick up the divider to use it. pretty gross. merry christmas. jds/ new haven/ 12/'17. + i did call ( 12-24-2017/ 3 30 pm ) chatted with a manager. he listened and shared our concerns for this unhealthy behavior. he would have a chat with the workers concerning health code requirements. thats a good sign. happy holidays. read more

The workers don't care. I don't expect a lot, they work at stop and shop. But if you have a job, you shouldn't be rude to customers, ever. God forbid you use the self checkout and need help buying alcohol or baby formula, it's the end of the world. The light blinks to let the person know and it would help if they actually looked or payed attention. If you run the self checkout, your only job is to look for blinking lights and help people. To have to find someone yourself to call over isn't that bad, but when they give you an attitude because you need help, that's ridiculous. I've worked in customer service for years, I fully understand dealing with the stupidity of day to day shit at a grocery store. It sucks, but you can't be mean to people. Especially people who don't deserve it. These people always suck but today broke it. While standing in line I had two cashiers walking behind me saying rude things because everyone had full carts. The woman at the self checkout was rude to me because I bought baby formula. She didn't come over when the light was blinking and what's better is she was actually standing near the aisles just looking at the registers. I called her over and it was like the end of her world that she had to help me. I understand you work at stop and shop and you're life is shitty, but you don't get to take that out on customers. I'll drive the miles up to shoprite from now on, these people are worthless pieces of crap. I kept coming back because of the location. I'm just not going here anymore. The food selection is fine. The employees especially in the deli counter are not. As a Woodbridge resident many of us feel the same and now go out of our way to Big Y or Oliver's etc. Yesterday is a perfect example. I wanted cold cuts my wife and I flipped a coin to see who was gonna go in and ask for thin cut ham because we both hate getting an attitude about it. I was standing there for 10 minutes with 3 other people waiting. The same people behind the counter were all working on things other than the people at the counter. When I said something about it they immediately got nasty. There's one large woman in particular that gets pissed if you ask to have your meat cut thin. She has actually told me it was fine that way and she wasn't cutting it any thinner on more than one occasion. I get the hint your not going to hire nicer people and by nicer I mean customer centric. When I occasionally order deli meat from the kiosk, I routinely get back ridiculously thick slices regardless of my indicated slicing preference. The deli workers chit chat to the point of being dangerously distracted and I've heard them complain that some kiosk deli orders are too big. Imagine that! There is no lazier person than a deli meat slicer that doesn't want to slice deli meat. Good grief. They must relish in the strokes they've saved for each overly-thick slice of deli meat. Unfortunately, I shop at this store every week or two, since I pass by it doing errands, etc. I really don't like the store. The produce (old) and meat (grisly, fatty, and poorly trimmed) are sub standard quality. The ground beef smells bad when it's cooked. The veal cutlets are tough. The staff often are unmotivated and stand around scowling. This store has a particular problem with filthy price scanners. Tonight a staff member refused to clean our's even though it was hardly working due to green dirt on it. read more
