We were stockin up for a rental home and found stop and shop. I wasn't expecting it to be like our Krogers at home. They had everything we needed to make our meals and life more conveinent during our week long stay. They had affordable pricing and super helpful staff who helped up get some great deals and utilize coupons. The parking lot is large, and the store itself is clean and laid out nicely. The main problem with Stop & Shop are the people who work there. Perhaps it is the wait they are treated by management. But they basically ignore you. Yesterday, when I was doing self check out, I needed help scanning an item that would not scan due to the label. The young woman came over reluctantly, did not greet me back fixed it and walked away with a frown on her face. It's really pathetic at this point. These companies make you ring yourself out, so you are doing the work for them. Then they cannot even greet you or say a simple "thank you" for shopping at the store. So sad. It is basically the same experience at both the Harwich and Orleans location. Go to Friends in Orleans. Everyone is nice. read more

This store used to be my go to grocery store because of their selections, weekly sales and gas rewards. Sadly, not anymore. They got rid of some brand selections and not very good weekly specials anymore. I used to recommend this store to everyone I know, because I like the staff, they are very knowledgeable and ready to help and I found a lot of savings from weekly specials and digital discounts. Now I go to the rival store in town because they still carry some products that I'm kind of attached to. I'm a local and I need to shop for grocery every other day. It's frustrating to find that your items are not sold in my store anymore! read more

This store is starting to show it's age, but it's a good size market for this part of Cape Cod. If you are heading to Chatham for vacation and need to do heavy duty shopping I recommend coming here. Chatham only has one small market and it's quite expensive compared to here. Prices here are about average. I was in here as the summer season on Cape Cod was starting to wind down. My biggest gripe about this place is that the aisles are SO narrow, it's hard to get your card through. I can only imagine what a headache this place would be to get around during the peak tourist season. Of course this place is a ghost town in March! Bakery section was small. The produce section was a good size and things looked fresh. They do have a good size floral section and a lot of nice items for sale. read more

All I can say is when I go into the meat department I shouldnt see brown spolied meat mixed with fresh meat i guess they have never heard of cross contamination. Seems to me that the meat department likes to slack off a bit. Its definitely a quick way to a lawsuit if someone isnt paying attention an buys the discolored meat cause the "butcher" tells them its good still. This has been and on going problem and maybe the board of heath should have a walk threw they put the new meat in front and old meat in back when its suppost to be new meat in back old in front so it sells rather than spoiling in the cooler causing bacteria.... read more

I often visit the cape and this store is convenient. But it's also big, well lit and well stocked. So shopping here is a pleasure. I live near Boston and tried to find a stop and shop comparable to this and the reviews of Arlington, Somerville etc. are scary. Such a shame that one chain can have great stores and also really poorly performing stores in the same state. Not sure why this is true but sure wish they would step it up and stay at the level of the East Harwich store! My experience there has encouraged me to look for same in my area, but nothing like this in a reasonable distance from me. read more

I have been shopping at the Stop and Shop in Harwich MA since it opened, I believe in the early 80's. I'm afraid that I cannot shop there anymore. I can be totally patient with the lack of items because of the pandemic, but I cannot tolerate being so severely inconvenienced and totally embarrassed because of the Stop and Shop head office and their decisions. Where do I start? First of all, the new self service registers. I have no idea why they got rid of the previous ones. They worked fine and were not so overly sensitive as these new ones are. Today, I was trying to check out a rather large order. The thing shut down at least eight times and made me wait for assistance. I wouldn't mind if I had made a mistake but I didn't. The thing shut down a couple of times and I literally was just standing there and didn't even touch it. It makes you look like an idiot! Items that are light weight do not register that you put in the bag, so that messed me up a couple of times. Sometimes it picks up your coat or your purse and thinks you are scanning something. It keeps saying' "Put your item in the bag." But the only thing is, I already did! It is annoying and totally infuriating, to say the least! Then they have their new digital coupons. First of all, I am still working and don't have time to sit home in advance and clip the coupons, which is what 2 of the employees told me I have to do. If you enter the store and try to clip them, there is a lag in time from when you clip them and when you get them, which makes them unusable. Plus, the app is very confusing. When I try to clip the coupons on the app, I don't know if I'm just clipping a coupon for use in the store or if it is creating a whole online order, which is not something I want! And there is a huge list of coupons, which is very clumsy and time consuming to scroll through every time you want to use a coupon!!! The shopping carts are in bad condition and make a terrible clunking noise! Again...embarrassing! I like to relax and zone out when shopping. It is one of the only times I have to myself. Kind of hard to do with a cart that is making such a racket! I know I am not alone in this. I have had other people tell me they will not shop at Stop and Shop anymore because of these issues. I am an older lady, like the many of customers at the store, and I am not a computer scientist. Can't they just do things nice and simple like in the 'good old days'? read more

So...as a grocery store...I'm a Trader Joe's / Whole Foods groupie...but being on the Cape...this is the best grocery store around as far as selection. Great parking...the store is huge as is the fresh produce section (I just wish they carried a larger organic selection...my usual complaint) The deli...OMFG. I was at the store with my Dad. He was on his way to the deli to get a quarter pound of cheddar...he sent me around the store to get 4 or 5 things. I come back with everything...I see he is still at the deli...currently talking to the girl behind the counter... Deli chick: "Anything else?" Dad "Yes, I'll also take a quarter pound of cheddar please". Deli chick: "What kind of cheddar?" Dad: "It doesn't matter, the cheapest one". Deli chick: "Okay, well we have this one that is $6.99 per pound, and this one that is $8.99 per pound, and this one that is... Dad: "Just give me the cheapest one". Deli chick: "Alright. Well, do you want the Vermont Cheddar? Do you want sharp cheddar? Do you... Dad: "Seriously? Are we still discussing this?" Deli chick: "Huh?" Dad: "Put your cheapest cheddar in the slicer. Slice up a quarter pound of it, and give it to me." Deli chick: "Do you want aged cheddar...or... ...Really...I think my father almost put his head through the wall. Luckily deli chick finally got her sh*t together, and put some damn cheese in wrapping and gave it to my father, because I was soon to go behind the counter, take a block of stupid cheese, and run. This is a pretty decent market -- it's large, well-stocked and has a nice selection of stuff. What I don't like is the dim lighting and the often unkempt aisles. I've actually been coming here since I was a kid, and can remember when it was brand-new and pretty stunning for the area. It's taken a dive since then and although it's still easy to get your essentials and then some here, the S&S in Orleans is vastly better (and larger). I like the friendly cashiers and the organic/whole food aisle. They also have more milk to choose from than I know what to do with! The location is super convenient, with a pharmacy, a liquor store, a gas station and a few other shops in the immediate vicinity. read more

Just hope you never need to call their customer service phone number. Forty three (43) minutes wait on hold, then a live person answers. I explain the problem (2 minutes). The problem was their reward program took away 2,000 points for a gas discount and the web site initially said I would get a $2.00 per gallon discount (so far so good). But then the main screen of their web site said I would only get a $1.50 discount, (cheating me out of $10.00). The person said the $1.50 was the maximum discount (contradicting what the web site said when I converted the 2,000 points). The person said I should still have the 500 points in my account (NO, that didn't happen either) The person then abruptly put me on hold and never returned. After 20 more minutes on hold their system hung up on me. read more

It's bad enough we have to put up with substandard meat, fish and produce and high prices across the board, but their customer service is atrocious. As supermarkets go this place is totally awesome! I know, how could anyone give 4 stars to a chain supermarket? It is all relative. Well stocked shelves -- check. Helpful staff -- check. Organic brands -- check. Decent prices and lots of variety -- check. This place is as big as an airport which is good news bad news. They waste a couple of aisles with "seasonal purchases" read junk like coolers and grilling crap. And it is a hike if you forget some item that is all the way back in produce. It is so well stocked that the fact that this store is the size of King Kong's bedroom is easy to overlook. A couple of points to be considered while shopping at the Stop and Shop. The deli counter is a big hot mess so unless you enjoy getting into a bare knuckle, UFC, tiff with a senior citizen or a soccer mom, use the preordering screen and walk away! Also, try not to come here on a weekend in the summer -- the experience can be about as unpleasant as being in a multi vehicle car crash. A staffer told me they did $1 million in gross sales one weekend! Not sure why people complain that it is hard to find. It is on a major route (137) off the mid-cape and route 28 right between Brewster and Chatham in a ginormous shopping center. Kind of hard to miss it. read more

On the plus side, they have a reasonable heathy foods section and their ethnic sections are much improved. The bakery is above average but not much whole grain. There is lots of gluten free, if you must. On the downside, their produce is awful and local is not a term they are familiar with. My biggest gripe is that not once but twice in the last three years, I have been hit by an oblivious employee stocking shelves. Never have I seen so many things unloaded with half full pallets and empty boxes scattered throughout the store. There is no awareness that just maybe chatting while emptying a pallet on either side of the aisle renders it impassible. Better prices are to be had if you are willing to drive all the way to Market basket. read more

This is my email to the Peapod pickup service at my local Stop & Shop....I think it describes my feelings.... I have just returned home after purposely going to the East Harwich Stop and Shop Peapod service to get the order that you confirmed at 1 am last nite for pickup this morning between 11-12n. I sat in a Peapod pickup spot for 20 minutes as the clerk loaded a truck 2 spaces from me, locked up his cube and went inside. Never acknowledging me as I sat in the Peapod spot. I then called Peapod who then informed me that my 5# of King Crab were again out of stock for the 5th time. No phone call, on the contrary, a confirmation of in stock status from Patrick, and the late nite email. I was originally impressed that Peapod appeared to have dotted all its "I"'s and had covered concerns that had to be addressed to make something like this work. My first order seemed to go fine. Same out of stock, but notified, and friendly service. Good substitution for out of stock items. 1 mispick on meat, but no big deal there. Credited. Today was an insult. A rainy Saturday morning traveling only to the Peapod pickup to be ignored and out of stocked AGAIN. Take the item off the available items list. Its very inconvenient to us consumers. As I am sure you are aware, if consumers don't have the confidence that items would be picked as they would be by shopping themselves, qualitywise and correctly, that the program would fail badly. Unfortunately, it has for me, and I can no longer place my confidence in the Peapod pickup system . The woman that answered my phone call at Peapod stated that the order was setup for the next days pickup also. She could not confirm that that order would be in stock either. Seeing another wasted trip to the pickup site, I told her to cancel it. Peapod pickup is enticing to me, but please get your act together. Shaws , here i come. read more

Just returned from a FRUSTRATING shopping experience in the Harwich Stop and Shop - many of the specials that they advertised in their flyer were out of stock (this the morning of when the sale begins!) - confectioner's sugar, New England coffee, the Stop and Shop jumbo shrimp were in a bag NOT labeled Stop and SHop (an employee had to help me) AND the count was in tiny letters on the back - it would have been SO EASY to mistake one of the other bags of shrimp for the sale item and be further frustrated at the register. Items were hard to find and the aisles clogged with temporary displays that impeded traffic. Really annoying experience! read more

The milk cooler smells horrendous. Half the products I buy there end up being open and possible tampered with. They don't carry name brands much of the time, substitute with their own brand. Orleans store is equally bad. Both routinely sell expired products. Produce is yucky and I wouldn't ever eat meat from there. I am willing to drive 30 miles to a Roche Bros to get decent, fresh food at better prices. We need a Roche Bros on the lower Cape so badly. Stop and Shops are not clean and their customer service on the managerial level is terrible. When they are selling an outdated product, the managers will argue with you that you are wrong. read more

Big, bustling supermarket, the favorite in my area. It's best to try it at odd hours, especially in the summertime. They have a really neat system by which you can completely bypass the checkout lines.called self checkout. You will need a Stop & Shop customer card which is available free from the consumer service desk in the front of the store. Once you get that you can sign out a small receiver which reads UPC codes on what you want to buy and you just click it to record that you did buy it. Except for produce, everything in the store can be checked out that way so that when you get to the do-it-yourself counter all you have to do is terminate the checkout machine by clicking on a code at the register and then when you show your customer card to the machine the entire list of what you bought is printed out and all you have to do is pay. If you bring your own bags you can stuff them as you go and you don't even have to stop to fill them. I have never been disappointed with the quality of what we thought there, especially at their bakery which is well above average, especially for a big supermarket like this. read more

I was a little disappointed that the metal go carts didn't have engines, but that didn't stop me from having my friend steer me around this mediocre establishment. At one point we broke an egg on the floor to assert our dominance, but the staff refused to rise to our challenge and were instead perfectly cordial. Don't go to Starbucks here. The worst service ever. I ordered a peach tea. With a lot of huffing and puffing the employee began to make my tea. After minutes of slamming cabinet doors she be grudgingly continued. Then she told me she was out of peach. I had already paid so I stated I just wanted a refund then. She gave me the evil eye and told me I would have to wait for a manager. A few minutes later a nice manager introduced himself and apologized and explained I would have to go to customer service for a refund. A new line with 10 people in it.
