A small supermarket for people around the world. Great for grabbing last minute anything. I shall call it the "super convenient store".

have been shopping intermittingly at this store for many years. although it could really use a makeover, and availability of some items vary, one thing never changes. the cashier "Maya" is ALWAYS courteous, efficient, pleasant and is always smiling and wishing you a good day. Most of the reviews I've written lately have been updates of grocery stores/supermarkets in my area and their efforts in dealing with the Covid-19 crisis. In thinking about it, I'm realizing I might have been a bit harsh in my initial evaluation of the Stop & Shop. First, unlike the ShopRite in Stirling, or Branchburg, it's not a "superstore." I went into superlatives when the ShopRite in Stirling had paper towels, or liquid hand soap. But when I went a week later, it had none of those things. Same with the ShopRite in Bernardsville, or the one in Branchburg. Point is, there's no consistency as far as what you'll be able to purchase during this time of crisis, and what you won't. And I've come to realize that the Shop & Shop in the Lyons Mall actually has, on a more consistent basis, the things I need, "superstore" or no "superstore." I don't know about you, but I'm starting to get sick of the saturation TV advertisements of "we'll get through this together." Yeah, until it comes time to buy toilet paper. Then it's every man for himself, every woman for herself, every child...well...whatever..."We'll get through this together" until Social Darwinism rears its ugly head, and that lack of toilet paper or hand sanitizer becomes a festering wound on the national psyche. But the stores are making a good-faith effort. They are setting aside early hours for the elderly to purchase what they may need. They've installed protective screens for their check-out clerks. Facial coverings are required for those inside the store now (a few weeks ago, I made the mistake of going in without a mask...I hadn't been able to find one to buy, and hadn't thought of converting one of my old motheaten concert T-shirts into a Jesse James-style facial covering...and a shopper, wearing dark goggles, rubber gloves and a facial covering that had her resembling some alien insectile/humanoid creature from a low-budget sci-fi movie, went sprinting out to the end of the aisle and staring back at me with intergalactic reproach until I got the item I was seeking and left). Shopping aisles have been made "one-way." There are signs put up indicating that "social distancing" is mandatory. All of these are positive signs, indications that the store cares for its employees and its customers. I have encountered snotty teenaged check-out clerks here in the past. But then you'll encounter them everywhere, in every store you go to. The truth is, most of the people working here are friendly and helpful, and performing their jobs under very trying, tense circumstances. When I needed paper towels, they were here. When I needed orange juice, it was here. Milk, cottage cheese, bottled water. No, you may not find that roll of toilet paper you need, or the bottle of liquid hand soap. But I've had better luck here finding items I've needed than I have at the nearby "superstores." This is a good store that I've patronized for years, and will continue to do so. It deserves 5-stars. read more

1. Need some ridiculous sugar carbs or just a loaf of bread for $1-2? Hit up the "yesterday's bakery" rack near the frozen section. 2. I've come to realize the produce section really isn't that bad. Apples, pears, and bananas are less than $2/lb. Potatoes, greens, and staple vegetables (carrots, onions) are priced like any other supermarket. 3. Meat tends to be competitively priced because they are always trying to move inventory because no one shops here. The store is really lacking in specialty items, cosmetics/toiletries, and ethnic foods, but for day-to-day supplies its a-ok. read more

From great to bad. Deli, great, check out not so great. I don't come here often, but when I do, I can find things that I don't normally see in other supermarkets near me. Today I went to the deli and asked if they made sandwiches to order. The woman behind the deli counter said yes. I ordered a roast beef on a roll, with yellow American cheese, lettuce, tomato, and mayo, S&P. This person asked me if I wanted Boars Head meat or store meat and asked me what kind of bread I wanted. I chose Boars Head meat. It did take awhile despite the fact it wasn't busy. The wait was worth it. I split this glorious sandwich with my daughter. I have to go back and find out who made this sandwich! She put so much care into it and should be complimented for her customer service. Unfortunately, at check-out, I didn't get a hello, smile, or goodbye, from the cashier. read more

I don't get this place. Basking Ridge is a very sexy town. But if you go to this place, it'll feel like you're in the backwoods of Mars. The clientele here is hideous, worn and Hieronymous Bosch-like. The staff is basically characters from Sling Blade. The interior is worn and dark. People try to stay away, it seems. As soon as I see that deli counter my reptilian brain screams "look away". Good in a pinch of course, but ultimately a sad vibe. read more

I will no long shop at this awful store. Over the years, they are consistently out of stock on many items. However, I've now gone there FIVE TIMES over the past few weeks because I needed distilled water and yet they NEVER HAVE IT IN STOCK! I'm tired of having to shop at other stores because Stop & Shop can't stock basic items. I'm done with this place. read more

This is the supermarket closest to my house and the supermarket that is "on the way home" from work. While its not the best place in the world (belongs to Wegmans) this place is serviceable. I would highly recommend getting ONLY the things you need in here and avoiding it. The people are not friendly, the place is usually dirty and with better options in any direction (A&P, Shoprite, Kings) I would just avoid it. Again if you need something last minute it works, but i would not do all of my food shopping here. read more

The Customer service representative who helped my father with a money wire transfer (Western Union) today 4/28/2019 was the rudest person he's ever had experience with. Not only was she degrading and treating him like garbage she was also so nasty and inappropriate. I hope that woman gets fired and learns how to treat people. Due to this woman's actions I will no long be shopping at stop and shop because If I were to run into I wouldn't be able to contain myself from treating her the same way she treated my father. read more

I never write online reviews. But after last night's experience at the store on top of past experiences there, I have to say something. This store is a mess! The first issue is the condition of the store. Hold on to your shopping cart because the floors are so uneven, which makes it especially annoying when trying to load groceries on the conveyor belt and your cart keeps rolling away. And someone needs to fix the frozen food cases! They are either fogged up or the lights inside of them are burnt out or they are leaking water onto the floor of the aisle. But the worst part of this store is the cashiers. It's obvious management doesn't train them in customer service. Unfriendly, annoyed and unprofessional. They make me feel guilty for bothering them at check out! Frankly, I'm tired of dealing with it. Taking my money elsewhere. read more

I can't beat the convenience. Only thing is sometimes there are long lines and management types ignore that fact.

I haven't been to other Stop & Shop locations, but I can't imagine they're all this dismal. This is the closest grocery/convenience store to my house so I'll sometimes run up here for something quick like a bag of flour or a few apples, but only when absolutely necessary. The selection is very limited and the prices are not great. read more

It needs to be renovated, desperately. I've gotten home to find food I've bought is past the expiration date. Every cashier seems like they hate their life. I have a hard time trusting their produce sometimes. They do however have sales on meat quite often. I wish they would update so the interior is brighter and more welcoming. read more

Out of every Stop and Shop I have ever been to, this particular location is, by far and away, the worst one. The store itself is run down and almost dirty. It is never packed - as I am sure people are getting their grocery shopping done at better places in the area. The selection here is pretty bad, too, which is pretty strange for a supermarket. I have closer options to my house so I usually don't go here. But, when I have, I have always been disappointed. No Redbox or movie renting machine, either. read more

Firstly, this supermarket doesn't deserve to be nestled in such prime location. There is no excuse to have such an awful business servicing a beautiful town on a gorgeous street next to the train station. Their produce is consistently low quality. You would be wise to thoroughly inspect the package and the expiration date prior to placing anything in your basket. Next, be prepared inspect your receipt to make sure that the items on sale were rung up at correct prices. I've had to waste my time far too often bringing an item back to the service desk to get a refund on items that were rung up wrong. Today was no better, but this time...I'm going to let them keep the extra dollar they charged for organic milk as they will never see another one from me again. And those carts - ancient, dirty, rusty with mostly immobile parts and child seats. Forget about having any of the kid seat belts still intact! Lastly, and this is THE ONE that did me in today; how about not being defensive when a customer asks whether the sale item price came up correctly? How about thanking, looking at or attempting to mutter any lingual sign in my direction when handing me the receipt? Please realize, Patrick, neither one of us wants to be at this Stop & Shop. Now that the a and p is closed there is only this store or the shoprite if you don't want to leave town. This store has a really strange vibe to it. I'm not really sure how to describe it. First the clientele just seems to be weird (like they don't fit in with the rest of the town). And the store itself seems old and worn. And because the store is small the selections are limited. The produce - no arugula! Say what???? I do like the fact that they employ some special needs people to bag groceries. read more

Sad, depressing store with prices more ridiculous than an NYC corner bodega. Staff, with one or two exceptions,are either unbelievably rude or incompetent. There is an older disheveled woman who was stocking shelves and eating food at the same then licking her fingers. Yuck! I can't believe this place exists in Basking Ridge. read more

While there is some facelift that can be used in the store (new wagons for example), this Stop & Shop has a classic feel to it. The store is a throwback for those of us in our 50s or 60s who shop there; I feel we go there to avoid the giant all in one supermarket and shop in our home town. The Produce department keeps getting better and better. The front end has also improved with some turnover in staff. I recommend if you were turned off in the past, try again - it may be a better experience now. read more

First of all this store is slow and the people who work there are rude and never smile. I was just at the store today and it is very out of the way for to go here but I went because the other grocery store is always packed!!! As for this store it is a ghost town! Nobody is happy or greets you when you come in which most likely you're going to be a paying customer, now heres my experience today. I walk in to the store and the people working instead of doing their jobs stare at me and then go back to whatever they were doing. I got my cart and proceeded to get the water that I had intended on buying. I get the water and I go around and get a bag of ice, I decided I am done and I would go pay. Only 2 registers were open one was normal and the other was 12 items or less. I had only 2 things so I went on the shorter line, the cashier doesnt even say hi to me I said dont forget the water he says back to me "I know I can see that"!! I was taken a back by the rudeness already and well then he said you dont really need a bag for the ice do you?! And I answered that and I wen to pay with my card and he just stared and held on to my reciept tightly when I went to get it to go home. This experience makes me wish I had originally gone to the crazy over crowded store. I will not be going out of my way anymore and hope that man loses his job and this horrible store closes for good! The store is getting better as they start to change parts of the store. The grocery department needs a little bit of changing, part of it doesnt make sense. Their deli is nice, they have a good selection. The meat is good quality. Produce is nice as well. They changed a lot of recently it seems like, it is easier to shop through then before. Would recommend to others. read more

While being small and quaint without having the variety of some of its larger counterparts this stop and shop has friendly associates willing to help. The sales are good to great or good to decent but always competitive. Like any where else you have to pick the best sales. read more
