Had dinner today and the food was delicious as usual but the two young gentlemen working right now are truly a credit to your restaurant. Extremely polite and professional. I am handicapped and they were very accommodating helpful. read more

Early this week the wife n myself visited Stookeys and had all of their signature sandwiches. The ham, pork, beef with the pickeled relish was outstanding. The rolls were great and the sandwiches were just as good. A gem in NEPA one MUST visit if you.luv BBQ! CONGRATS ON 100 YRS N KEEP DOING WHAT YOUR DOING FOR ANOTHER 100 YRS read more

Welcome food believers, I am back to a what you can call historic restaurant here in the area. I am talking about Stookey's BBQ serving since 1926, now the ownership has changed through the years, however they continue to serve the same recipe keeping it to the original. Now their BBQs are topped with relish unless you ask for the BBQ or maybe you are a plain type of person. Now for today I got the beef and ham, both came on a steamed/warm bun. These two sandwiches were packed with their distinctive meats, they were delicious, nothing fancy, just a good BBQ. Now I did a takeout years ago during the pandemic so now I felt it was time to go in house. Now they even offer hot dogs and yes, one of the toppings is chili, so I also did a little Hot Doggin' NEPA style. Again, warm bun, great tasting dog, tasted like an all-beef, the chili was nice and meaty, not spicy. Now the service I received today was a 10 out of 10, very polite and professional, they do take cards as well as cash so if you have never been here or have not been here in a while they would like to see you all again. Until next time be blessed and stay safe everyone! Visit them online at https://stookeysbarbeque.com/location.html Watch Our Video Review 9.12.2025 @ 12 AM https://youtu.be/KBl5P2o_aV0 read more

Unfortunately the food was cold and salty! Ribs were hard . First and last time! Do not recommend. This review is overdue . Not sure how they are in business so many years. It's baffling. read more

If you have seen my previous review they have really stepped it up. Haven't been there in years and I was hankering a bbq. Service was nearly perfect. Seems like it's cooked fresh, tasty bbqs. Bathrooms are improved. Overall place is dated, but you're not there for the ambiance. Get your food to go for an easy night of no cooking. It's a bitch to get out of the parking lot. Thanks route 11 travelers! read more

I'm not a fan of the food here and now I'm not a fan of the restaurant. The young female cook was awful at customer service. Slamming things because she had to make fries 30 minutes before closing. An older adult who may have been the manager came out and took an order. She had no care in the world. The young female taking the order was perfect. That's why they get 2 stars and not 1. read more

This place is the best. The beef BBQ is great and the staff is very fast and friendly.

Been eating barbecue from here for 60 years and still love going back. Apple smoked meats and our favorite is pork.

I genuinely love this place & it's a go to for me whenever I am in need of something to eat in the area. The establishment is very clean, the employees are always so friendly and attentive, the food is fabulous I love their chili and bbq sauce, the service is quick as well! I highly recommend- my favorite is definitely the hot dog with everything on it read more

My favorite at Stookey's is the turkey bbq and you must have relish on top! They have ham, pork and beef bbq's too. You can buy the meat to go and have a great supper at home. read more

I asked for a pork bbq sandwich on a pretzel bun and I got a Turkey with nothing on it but relish. Pretzel bun was soggy. I ordered a side of macaroni salad and it came in a tiny cup "like a sample container". Got charged $2.08 for basically a sample!! My first and last time that's for sure!! If I could give zero stars I would!! read more

Yummy been coming since my parents brought me here as a child. I live out of state now but stop whenever I am in the area.

I've been hooked on their food since i was a kid. Love their bbq. Pork is the best, but the turkey isn't far behind. read more

This has been a local staple and favorite since I can remember. We always make sure to stop when we visit Home. The BBQ sandwiches are always very good. The soups are also nice. They seem to be adding more menu items all the time. This last time I was not as impressed. They seem to have changed the buns they use and for me this was a big deal. I really loved the offset cut buns the once had. The new ones are not as tasty. read more

We ordered two meals, one combo which was supposed to have 1/2 chicken and ribs, meal came with a wing/thigh and the fattiest ribs I've ever had. My meal of ribs was literally all fat. I had about two bites of meat. For $30 this is insane. Sides are straight from a can or jug :( read more

Stookey's Famous Barbeque - Pork ribs - Barbeque Near Me - West Nanticoke, Pennsylvania

I've been eating here since I was a kid. The BBQ sandwiches are thinly sliced smoked pork, ham, beef, or turkey topped with pickle relish. The pork BBQ's are my favorite! All the food is delicious and served in a simple atmosphere by friendly staff. Definitely give Stookey's a try, you won't be disappointed. read more

Been going here for decades Within the last 5 yrs I would say Their BBQ's are horrible No taste Also I went in with my own bottle of water and the girl told me that i couldnt drink it in there (it was alkaline water) So we got up and left I wont go there anymore Nothing like it used to be read more

Fantastic French dipped sandwiches. And if you go here on a Sunday there's a fleamarket at the drive-in theater just a couple of minutes away. I usually head over for some Stookey's BBQ after a long morning of haggling. Service is fast, staff is friendly, place is clean, and the food's great. read more

They started putting the chairs up on the tables and turned the lights out while we were eating and there was an entire hour left before the restaurant closed so we just left before we could finish our food. Very rude! read more

Great place, no wonder they're around over 100 years! I've stopped at Stookey's a few times now, and it never disappoints. They have a few menu items, but they're really known for their BBQ sandwich's. My most recent trip I stopped in and ordered the Pork BBQ and the Ham BBQ sandwich's. The meat comes out thinly sliced and "stacked", so it's a hearty and slightly messy sandwich. The Pork BBQ comes on a warm, crispy kaiser roll with a generous dollop of relish. The pork is juicy, but not "wet", and is very flavorful. The Ham BBQ is also thinly sliced (surprisingly enough, it's not like thick "Easter Ham" slices), and was recommended to get with a Pretzel Roll and cheese - almost like a hot ham and cheese sandwich. I don't know how else to describe it, it was almost like an Arby's Beef and Cheddar on steroids. It was delicious! On previous trips I've had other items, most notably the ribs. Their beef ribs, so theyre large and "chewy", with a thick BBQ sauce. They're OK.. but if you're going to Stookey's.. get the sandwich's.. that's what they do best! read more

Run of the mill BBQ place nothing special. Pulled pork was like chewing a dry eraser does smoked turkey was average a good Smoky Barbecue sauce though that was about it their drinks are way overpriced read more

Stookey's has been here since the 20s and for good reason. They have a very unique take on barbecue. This is not your sauced laden ribs but rather a smoked vinegary meat served on a bun with relish. One of my favorites when I come back home read more

Very, very tasty barbecue. My only issue was paying $2.19 for a couple spoonfuls of potato salad - literally. I'm from the Washington, DC area ... where everything is absurdly priced. I was not expecting that in Nanticoke. It wasn't good enough to pay that much for two spoonfuls in a little cup. I will be back, though. But I'm bringing my own sides. HAHA! read more

I love, love, love this place! The only reason to come are the BBQs. However they have lots of other homemade food that always looks good. It's also a great place to get takeout. My only beef is that they have tried to move to table service for in-restaurant dining. It is poorly executed. They should just give you a number on a stick if you want to eat in and let everybody order at the counter. It's confusing, service is slower as a result. And half the time you have to request that items be swapped because they don't just let you get your own drinks and chips at the counter. And even if you survive table service...you still stand in line with the takeout people to pay---so as a customer it makes no sense. read more

My grandfather brought me to Stookey's in the 50's and 60's for a special night when we would visit Nanticoke. It is like taking a step back in time when I stop in. As other reviewers have stated, this is a vinegar based barbecue. No finger licking stickies with these sandwiches. Delicious! read more

This place is outstanding. We go every single time we visit our friends in Hunlock Creek, I get the Stookey's barbecue ribs and they come with a lot of fries. Everything is excellent including service. read more

I think this place is not getting the amazing reviews it deserves because it not traditional BBQ like pulled pork smothered in a BBQ sauce that people expect. If you come in with the knowledge that this is a special kind of BBQ that is similar to, but MILES better than, Arby's thinly shaved meat sandwiches, you will love this place. I have been coming here since I was a kid and its always the first thing we would ask if we driving anywhere in Pennsylvania if we could stop at Stookeys (even if we were on the other side of the state). This past weekend, I was driving back from the Finger Lakes in New York, and made a ridiculously long detour just so that I could stop here. I always get their Ham BBQ sandwich with relish (you have to get the relish) and then buy a couple extra to freeze when I get home for when I'm hankering for some good BBQ. They usually don't last the week in my house. I'll be honest, I've never had anything else on their menu, because their sandwiches are just that good. They have been in operation since the 1920s which tells you this place is fantastic and definitely worth the stop (think about it, they survived the Great Depression, their BBQ is that good!). read more

Think about it. It's the hills of PA where pork does not grow and folks here really don't know what BBQ is. People are friendly but that doesn't make up for not knowing bbq. This also is more of a local's joint not made for dining in. Ribs were literally four individual ribs of some animal. Very long with little meat. Everything is served in styrofoam. I wonder how it has made it this long. But it's what the locals have gotten use to. read more

My husband likes their sandwiches. I've tried to like the food, but just can't... I ordered the rib platter with baked potato and Cole slaw. I was under whelmed. I expect BBQ to be tender and have a char on it. Mine was tough and had the texture of boiled meat and drowning in sauce. read more

Stookey's Famous Barbeque - Ribs. Under done... Chewy.. Not my style. - Barbeque Near Me - West Nanticoke, Pennsylvania

Clean friendly atmosphere, excellent attentive staff. Bbq pork sandwich looked and tasted like turkey, sides are tiny unless you pay more for larger portions. Food didn't have that smoked bbq flavor we are used to, overall it was bland. read more

It was just ok. I waited almost 10 minutes for a waitress. I ordered the combo chicken and ribs. The chicken was a bit rubbery chewing. The ribs were ok. The bbq sauce was separating on the plate to grease and spice. The fries were very good. The waitress although oblivious to customers was very nice when she did take my order. read more

Been coming here since the 70s(I'm 46) my Grandmother would make Pop Pop stop here every trip on our way to and from our cousins dairy farm. The smoked BBQ sandwiches are great, A+! I only ventured off the sandwiches once for some ribs, they were good but not great. I always grab a bunch of BBQ sandwiches to go and bring them home, they stay good a few days and never last long in my house. This is not lunch meat folks it is real smoked turkey/pork and beef, most times you can smell the meat smoking in the parking lot. Speaking of the parking lot..... When you pull in the parking lot it's easy to swing your car in fwd and back it in for an easy exit on rt1. Just last Monday it was packed and I was not able to back the truck in but I didn't touch the highway backing out of the spot. The review about that must be salty about something else to bring that complaint to yelp. Speaking of salty...,I do have two requests to the current owners!! Bring back the sword toothpicks that you previously used for decades(don't buy from China please) and bring back the classic pictures of the many cars/trucks that crashed into the building over the years, those pics were fascinating. I have never seen a store get hit so many times before anywhere in my lifetime, were they trying to smash and grab BBQ sandwiches? Long live STOOKEYS!!! read more

Please remove the barbecue from your name. All the food came from Sam's club. Potato had cheese from a concession stand. Waiter was confounded when we asked for water. Ribs were oily and fatty. Chicken was oily outside, dry inside. Who make barbecue chicken with the skin on it? He mentioned many times that our "really big" order was hard for them. We had 7 in our group. They deliver fries 20 minutes after ordering, then 2sandwiches of shaved beef 0 minutes late and finally the ribs another 15 minutes later. All the drinks are bottled or cans. They apparently know nothing about restaraunt business. The profit margin I huge in fountain drins compared to can. So increasingly disappointed I apologized to family and stopped at nearest grocery store for food. Would have rather eaten at the game station. read more

First off, this is not Barbecue. It is thinly sliced meat, very mildly flavored, and really very bland. You either love it or you hate it. Those that apparently love this place are the local residents. The rest of America associates Barbeque with the major subtypes such as KC, Carolinas, Memphis, Texas etc. Stuff that makes it to the national competition circuit like American Royal. If you come to this place expecting beautiful brisket with the requisite smoke rings, or Carolinas style pulled pork, you will be sadly mistaken. read more
