The staff is all very caring and the counselors are great. Change counselors if you need to. I've heard horror stories of SOO many MAT clinics, but everyone consistently says this is the best by far. Follow the rules, be honest, and you can actual be free from the control of drugs and Alcohol. Keep in mind the negative ratings are often those going through withdrawal bc they didn't follow a rule. Stonybrook Center and its Staff have been a Godsend to me. Not only do they truly treat each patient as individuals with individual needs, they also have excellent groups that truly teach real life applicable skills . I have never called and not received the help that I needed in a timely manor. Whether it be to talk to my counselor in a crisis situation or just help with scheduling Insurance rides to get there . They truly are on top of their game in terms of helping and treating alcohols and addicts . They are much more than "just" a methadone clinic. They treat addiction as a whole. . They address addiction from a physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental standpoint. they provide an environment where building a sober network is comfortable and iis a judgement free zone. This place saved my life. I've been in this Methadone Clinic since 2014. When i started I was a pretty heavy IV heroin user of 13 yrs. The counseling they provide gave me so much knowledge to live an amazing sober life. Update: This place has changed. It was great when I started. But about a year ago, an alarming number of staff members quit within weeks of each other, most of the remaining staff left in the months following and now there's almost no staff left from when I started. Some staff members obviously look down on people who use drugs/with substance use disorder. People can tell when they are being judged. The clinic has been increasingly creating barriers between patients and their medication, even as more and more evidence is showing that low barrier treatment options have the biggest impact in increasing positive outcomes (including reducing accidental drug poisonings). It's sad because there aren't many quality options for methadone maintenance in the area. read more

This place saved my life . The best part about this place is its unlike any other you are treated like a human being not a criminal , you are remembered by name not a number and they honestly care for Your wellbeing . I have the most amazing counselor Patty she has taught me so much about myself and made my life so much more manageable, seeing her is included in my weekly medication fee which is covered by my insurance 100% but before insurance it was only $65 a week . I love this place so much that when I moved to Indiana I make the hour and twenty minutes drive to go their instead of finding a new place . I am experiencing a medical issue that requires treatment by a gastroenterologist. I am on medication to treat the systems. Per my physician's advice, I had my medical records sent to Stonybrook gastroenterology. My records were sent and received, however, I was informed today that because they have had two physicians leave their department, Stonybrook could not make an appointment until February! So I just wasted two weeks for nothing, waiting for Stonybrook to get back to me. This matter may involve a serious medical condition, and this process is unacceptable. Tell potential patients that an appointment is not available when they call initially. I am a long-time patient of Stonybrook medicine through their opthalmology service, and am very disappointed in their complete inability to timely schedule an important medical visit because of staffing issues. read more

How many stars do you give to a business that saved your life? Unfortunately I can only give 5, but the people at Stonybrook deserve much more. When I came to Stonybrook over 3 years ago I was a mess. All the veins in my arms had collapsed. All of my thoughts, time, money, and effort went towards getting high. I had been a junkie since 16 years old, on and off (mostly on), for 20 years. I did multiple jabs a day. I didn't think their was anybody or anything that could help me, nor was I even sure that I wanted help because I was so in love with the feeling of being "high". Stonybrook, or more specifically Cookie (the owner) and her staff helped me do what I thought couldn't be done...not only "kick the habit" but more importantly lose the craving for the opiate high. I have been clean and opiate free for 3 years now, I have a good job, good friends, respect from my family...and for the first time in forever I'm happy with my life. It's not perfect, I've got crap to deal with like the next guy, but I don't have to carry a 300 pound gorilla on my shoulders anymore. That's too much weight for any one person to handle alone. Luckily I didn't have to. The methadone took away the craving once I realized I couldn't feel the high anymore. Taking away that constant craving that pulls you towards opiates was the key for me. Once I could deal with being off opiates physically, I was able to deal with the mental aspects and also the rest of my life. Their are other methadone clinics in Chicago & Downers Grove but they are terrible. I know that I was a junkie, but the places don't let you forget it...ever. The ladies that work their treat you like dirt which gives you a bunch of negativity you just don't need when you are trying to kick and do the right thing. I expected the same thing at Stonybrook because most Methadone clinics are like that, so I was floored when they talked to me with respect and understanding. It sounds cheezy but they treat you like family which was huge for me. So I'm writing this review as a small way to say thank you to the people at Stonybrook for being good, honest, caring people in a world where a long time junkie like me thought that people like that didn't exist anymore. read more

Stonybrook center has changed for the worst. I've been a patient here since they were at their old location. At first it was the best place around IMO. I live over an hour away from the clinic and I have clinics in my area I could've went too but I chose Stonybrook because of how I was treated and how I felt going there. Through the years though it's made a turn for the worst. I've been a patient here for a little over 5 years now. In those 5 years it has been a constant revolving door of employees. I was just informed today that my counselor is leaving at the end of the month. I broke down and cried. Bill has been the rock I needed the last couple years. Now that's he's going to be gone I will get yet another counselor. This will be my 5th counselor. As soon as I get close to a counselor I end up finding out they are leaving. With bill though he's been here for a few years and I finally thought I had a counselor I could depend on being around longer than the previous ones. He was the only reason I decided to stay at this clinic. Prior to bill the reason I stayed at Stonybrook was because of the nurse they had there. Nurse Jenny. She has been there for me when I have birth, when my mother passed away and many other instances. She was a mother figure to me and I loved her very much. She was the reason I stayed going to Stonybrook even when their owner cookie treated me less than a human and I felt like nobody cared about me. The only person who did was Jenny. When I found out she was leaving I cried. I was considering leaving myself after that but I stayed because of bill my counselor. Now that he's going to be gone I don't know what I'm going to do. He was the best counselor they have ever had at that place. And he's leaving because of their narcissistic owner cookie. This place use to be the best. I recommended this place to anyone I knew that needed the help. Now I take all that back. It's a shame it's gotten to this point. Because of cookies arrogance she's lost good employees who actually cared about their patients and made that place worth while. What a shame. read more

My last review was negative and have changed my view. This place is a warm calming therapeutic environment. The counselors give their whole hearted attentiveness to each person. They understand the therapeutic value of each individual needs. When any situation might arise you have not just the counselors, but also the owner and her family members have been their to help. My legal issues they always inquire about and always look to help or at least give sound advice to steer in the right direction. When I first started they were very concerned about physical health also, I actually was made aware about my liver and have stopped drinking. This is a very warm caring environment that I would refer anyone to, they care. This is my first time dealing with a clinic and if I would not have found Stonybrook I probably would not be alive. Thank you for saving my life, not giving up on me, and caring for me when I did not care for myself. You are an answer to my mother's sleepless nights and her many prayers. Thankyou. read more

My experience with Stonybrook Center has been absolutely horrendous. I have gotten problems from them at every single turn. I was there for the DUI program mandated by the state and I absolutely recommend you find somewhere else to go. I was accused of not paying when I had paid it all off the first day. I have been given the wrong information and wrong documents many times. I was denied for an informal hearing to get my license back because of Stonybrook messing up my documents which caused over 5-6 months so long, still ongoing, that I should have been able to drive. If you have ever lost your license you know that is a very big deal and cost me thousands more dollars than I should have had to spend because of Stonybrook's incompetence. There is also a crazy turn-over of staff. I have had 3 counselors in the just over a year I have been coming here. That should be a huge red flag for anyone looking at places to get treated. I only signed up at this place because the old location was close to my home and would have been able to ride my bike there. I only found out after paying that they changed locations months before and neglected to update their address on their website or any court papers or anywhere really. It was only after months of being here that I noticed they finally changed their address. The whole place is run horribly and increadibly disorganized. No one knows anything I can never get a straight answer to my questions. If you are coming here to complete a DUI course, find somewhere else! read more
