The Inn At Stonington - The Inn At Stonington 4-star hotel in Stonington, Connecticut

The Inn At Stonington

Can I give a six star review?…read more We've stayed at expensive hotels this year in Philadelphia and Chicago and this experience is head and shoulders over those. Huge room, comfortable, quiet and cozy. 6 star The quiet, do we even have anyone in the Inn or the town? The insulation is top notch. The dark The ultra sleeping experience. I guarantee the owner slept in this room at least one night to get feel for the room and make those little touches. How many hotels do you go to where the shades don't keep out the light or that the various clocks and smoke alarms and power strips and wall outlets all have bright led lights on them? How many times have I draped a sock over something. Not here, even the clock has a bright, dim and off option. I love a blacked out room and very very rarely get one. The shower - powerful and hot and oversized. Wow. Massive bathtub with jacuzzi option, wow. A well hidden TV, a really nice touch. We don't want it dominating the room. Bed, I've returned 3 mattresses after purchasing them at my house so I am picky and this bed is elite. Huge comfy chairs, comfy robes, this room has it all and the a/c is powerful. Resort 6stars Wine and cheese and fruit and cracker happy hour, bring $5 to tip Susan, she is a cheerful conversatalist. Breakfast is massive, don't plan to go anywhere else for brunch or breakfast. Highly recommend it and the seating areas are many, inside and out. Staff - great recommendations and Beatrice drew upon her knowledge of growing up in the town. Plus they had a ready list of 5 places to eat to walk to, so nice. The town, what a find, a classic NE town, they filmed mystic pizza here. So quiet and so much to do! Good amount of folks walking around, plenty of sites to see. Love it here.

I am so excited about this gem of a bed and breakfast. The house itself is absolutely beautiful…read more Approaching the house is a well appointed garden and steps up to a wrap around porch with a lovely gazebo that would be perfect for relaxing with a drink and listening to the birds in warm weather. From the porch, you also get a peek at the Mystic River and the Mystic Seaport. (I could see the Mayflower which was on a lift at the seaport for repairs-absolutely charming.) When you walk through the front door, you are greeted by artwork, books, and a parlor off to the right. There is a baby grand piano, tuned and ready to be played in the parlor. I just loved all the hand painted details by a local artist. It is a cozy, happy room. Walk straight through the front foyer and you enter the dining room which has coffee, teas, and water available 24/7. There was a plate of cookies on the table that were home made and out of this worldA scrabble game was set and ready to go. A well rounded breakfast menu was posted and you can order whatever you like, all home made including the granola. I am gluten free and Josephine was so accommodating. I even discovered a new GF bread that I thought was better than most I have tried. Josephine has a talent in the kitchen to say the least. Everything was delicious. There is a lot of local information on where to go and what to do. OK- now, the Mermaid Room This is not a large room but it has everything you need (including a little fridge) and the hand painted walls are an absolute study. To think one young lady produced all that art, a talent to be admired. There are 3 more rooms upstairs but I wanted to be on the main floor. I found the location perfect. It is not on the main drag so it isn't noisy but just walk a couple of blocks and you are right in the middle of downtown Mystic with all the glorious restaurants, cute shops, and a drawbridge over the Mystic River. 100% charm. See how many mermaids you can count‍. I will definitely go back. I would like to go on a river cruise next time. I am recommending the Mermaid Inn to all my friends and family.

The amenities are top notch, still with a touch of sweet whimsy. The modern, granite bath/shower, in the Blue Room, was complimented by a beautiful mermaid mural. The mantle was decorated with a charming mermaid fresco. The soft shades of blue made for a serene environment & I slept like a baby on the comfy white, wrought-iron bed. Breakfast was delicious! Challah bread French toast with a medly of berries one day, a delicious lobster quiche on another. The Inn is Victorian, the theme is all things mermaid but, the heart of it all is the proprietor & hostess, Ms. Josephine! She could not have been more welcoming & accommodating. Thank you, Josephine, for a restful & rejuvenating stay at your lovely Mermaid Inn!

She made a lunch reservation for five in the Bistro. We walked through the stately lobby and bar area to get to the Bistro. We we seated at a round window table with a great view of the private beach for hotel guests. Of course, there was a pristine white tablecloth and napkins plus fresh Calla Lillies on the table. Flatware was top notch. Glasses were thin walled French. Condiments including tiny bottle of hot sauce were in sealed containers on each table. Salt was in a porcelain bowl. Service was impeccable from start to finish. (Pics of menu included.) Orders: Warm Lobster Roll with Truffle Frites. ($48.) for me. It was very good with chunks of sweet lobster, and the fries were outstanding. I also enjoyed the Carrot Ginger Soup. It was amazing with a pleasing sweet flavor from the carrots and a tangy note from the freshly grated ginger. Texture was perfect. My daughter and I seriously want the RECIPE. Two Burgers ($34. each) very good One steak -- tender ($48.) One half Turkey Club and cup of soup (very good) Side added of Mashed Potatoes -- unusual flavor of mustard and vinegar in a hot mashed? Not eaten. Desserts were creative and presented artistically. ($14.) See photos. *Crème Brûlée *Two Chocolate Coconut Mousse *Trio of Sorbets including excellent Watermelon Mint. Americano Coffee We raved about how delicious the desserts tasted. Lunch was my treat. The prices were high because of the location in a historic hotel. It was the first time we have eaten in an award winning exclusive seaside hotel such as Ocean. Guests at this hotel are notably wealthy. During summer season, room rates are about $1,500. a night. Restrooms: Classy as expected. Cloth towels spa soap and hand lotion plus fresh flowers. Photos. Description and Awards: Perched high on the bluffs of Watch Hill, Rhode Island, Ocean House is an iconic New England seaside resort, and the first and only AAA Five Diamond and Forbes Five-Star hotel in the state. Fantastic Bottom Line Up Front: This hotel has everything covered; it is clean, quiet and comfy; the staff is very friendly, has a convenient location, pool, fitness center and DIY continental breakfast! The check-in/check-out was very smooth, the welcome team were pleasant and helpful and there was plenty of parking on site. The room was very clean, was quiet and comfortable and the climate control was easy to use. The bed we slept on was a little uncomfortable (firm and soft all in one) but it was manageable. The indoor pool was great for splashing around and cooling off, but don't expect To get any laps in. The free continental breakfast was what you come to expect from Hampton Inns (DIY waffles, eggs, yogurt, cereal and more). There was something for everyone. The WiFi worked well and there was plenty of parking on site. There was a convenience counter on site which you could purchase drinks and snacks from at an additional cost. We used it a few times and it was quick and convenient. Also, we decided to order in and the staff had great recommendations. We opted for pizza, but not the one you would think (check my next review on Pizza in Mystic). The hotel was conveniently located near several Mystic attractions, including the Mystic Seaport Museum and the Mystic Aquarium. Overall, it was a great stay. It matched or exceeded my expectations for cleanliness, customer service. Happy ways and super stays!

The room we booked was massive but in an empty massive way hard to describe, bed comfy but super creaky, pillows awful (per usual of most hotels) dated couch, nice kitchenette, dated bathroom with a bathtub and mat in the tub (a bit ewww) super high sided to get into the tub for a shower. Paper thin walls/ceilings are the only reason I didn't give 4 stars because our room was nice & clean, but all night we heard a guest down the hall having a very very good time with a friend, and in the am children above us running circles in the room thunderously. We would stay again though as the price was right and again clean is gooooood.

Delicious can't completely describe it since I felt as though I was eating an omelet in a cloud. You just have to try it to believe it. We stayed in the Ivy room. The bed was comfortable and the room was cool. It was our 43rd wedding Anniversary and when we came back from dinner we found delicious desserts and a Happy Anniversary banner.
