Don't rent here...we underwent a couple of emergency hardships, and we are paid bi weekly. The result is that we fell behind in our rent. We were capable of paying 2/3 of what we owed, and were ready to pay for the remaining 1/3 in ten days, delays due to bi-weekly pay check issues. Landlord would not hear anything about it. This mystified us, as we had always been a little tardy with payments due to the bi-weekly paychecks, and he accepted this for over 17 years, with late fees paid without issues. Now all of a sudden he took an all or nothing position, plus another $500 in legal fees that he claimed were generated by his lawyer filling out a two page eviction threat form. We had been calling this landlord clown for about 10 days before this random chance meeting in his office, and he had completely ignored us up to that point. We were trying to express our questions and concerns to his secretary. His secretary stated that he has many people calling him about these issues, and he just ignores these calls. His secretary suggested that she found it frustrating having to ignore these people at his request. During this conversation with his secretary, he happened to come into his office, and we finally faced him directly. He simply stated that he does not respond to these inquiries, as "they are in the hands of his lawyer." The secretary went silent. It was at this point that he gave his all or nothing ultimatum, and we happily decided to leave this scum.
He runs his property very poorly. He will "fix" things that have nothing to do with the real quality of the facility; he will spend 1000's replacing bushes making a few sidewalk dips for disabled, cutting down all the trees, or put in a new pavilion, but does nothing to deal with the numerous pot holes that infest his parking lots, expect replace it with this crappy tar gravel that ends up coming out the pot holes anyways. Every year these pot holes get bigger and bigger. You may also not the structural damage on the left side of the front roof corner as you come in. These two things should raise red flags in most savvy apartment hunters. He maintenance man is lazy, and makes you feel like a pain in the ass when repair service requests. Many tenants chose not to deal with him, as at least one elderly lady also coo-berated, and live with falling apart bathrooms, kitchen areas, etc. Me and another tenant laughed as we saw a group of landscapers that he hired leaf blowing leaves on the edge of the property INSIDE the tree line of the woods. When it snows, I hope you do not work third shift, or work in a job that does not accept "snow days", as his lazy boy maintenance man will not even start the engine of his snow plow until the snow stops falling.
When we left, the joke of a land lord took the security deposit and had not problem charging another month of rent for December even though we were only there until Dec 3. He also loves to over charge, essentially profit take, his legal fees, which he happily passes to tenants on for an additional hundreds of dollars. Something to heavy for you to lift and get out of the apartment? Don't worry, if you leave it behind, he will charge you hundreds.
Does this landlord clown want to keep his business? Maybe he sub consciously does not, and wants to drive people away. When we left, it looked as if almost half of the rentable units in the building were unoccupied.

Update: The only handicapped access to the facility I was in was a ramp that led out to the back by the pool. You then had a choice: take the side walk straight, and go over a section of side walk that is completely destroyed -and unsuitable for wheel chairs or push walkers- on account of the fact that the ground in that area gets saturated with ground water during the rain. Then you can walk all the way around the building to the left toward east lot, which has a handicapped side walk dip to the parking lot. Or you can turn right, and keep going for even longer distance toward the west lot. I did not see work done to make a handicapped side walk dip to the west parking lot. Instead you have to keep going all the way around the west side of the building and then along the northern side of the building until you reach the front entrance. For all the money spent on making handicapped side walk dips to the northern and eastern parking lots, this land lord clown did nothing to create some sort of ramping at the stairway area in the front entrance. I hope people who use wheelchairs & walkers have help with going down the front entrance stairs; otherwise, plan on taking a long trip to the handicapped ramp in the back of the building. It will be a real pain the the winter. Many times the sidewalks leading from the handicapped ramp in the back are uncleared for a long time after a snow fall. Part of it is laziness, the other part is that the sidewalks are in such poor shape that it is too difficult to shovel. Brian Ghilliotti read more
