They try so hard!! Here to celebrate my Mom's birthday with my sister, both of us from out of town…read more Mom wanted a fancy establishment so she made a reservation for Saturday night with Prime rib specials. Beautiful building with easy parking, greeted almost immediately from the hostess. Hostess was not dressed as fancy as the establishment, so maybe it's not that fancy? Live piano music while we dined was a nice touch. Waiter arrived a few minutes after we were sat. Apologies for us having to wait, no problem. Sister and I both had a cosmo and Mom went with water with lemon. We all ordered the Prime rib, myself a queen and my sister and Mom the King cut, mom wants the end piece well done. Bread came and we sat and chatted. While chatting I became animated and knocked into my glass and spilt my drink. No one was around to ask for something to pick up the spill, had to use my dinner napkin. The waiter asked if I was OK, told him I needed another napkin and why, but never asked if I wanted another drink. Dinner comes out after 25 minutes, it's a busy night, we see that. With in seconds my Mom wants to send hers back, the end cut was 75% fat! Who sends that out? Waiter apologized profusely and took her plate away for a new cut of meat. After 5 minutes of waiting, sister and I started taking from our plates to give to her so she could eat with us. I still have no napkin and no drink except the water. My sister declares she is done and the waiter comes with Moms dinner and my napkin. More apologies and he is now frazzled so he walks away. Never asked if I wanted another drink. So now that window is closed. Boxes for my left overs and most of mom's meal. She basically ate from our plates because it took so long. Dessert menu is given, we all ordered coffee and a dessert. Carrot cake came out drizzled with caramel and too much of it that it took away from the carrot cake flavor. Only ate a quarter of it, took the rest home. While we are eating the chef comes out and starts talking to the table next to us about their experience but never leaves or asks any other guests how their meal was. An apology from him would have been great as to why Moms replacement took another 25 minutes. They really do try to be more than what the reality of the situation is. The potential is there but needs a strong lead to pull it together. A F&B person myself I saw that it was every other table type of serving which ultimately leads to poor service. Stations are for optimal results in my experience. Servers tend to not like that because they will not get seated enough, but if there are reservations, seating evenly is a no brainer. I'm pretty sure Mom is going to want to come back but for me, I think I'll recommend another place. Keep trying, you'll get there.

Last Friday was my first time playing this golf course with about 20 of my golf buddies and…read moreeveryone really enjoyed the course layout, the greens, and the fairways was absolutely amazing. Skyview has a practice/warmup area that most courses would env. The practice greens was very fast, actually faster than the ones on the course. They also have a serviceable chipping area and driving range to work on your game. Most of the holes are right in front of you, no real tricks, it does boast some of the highest points in Florida, which I would certainly agree with. The par fives are long but fair (all over 530 yards but downhill), the par fours are challenging and the par three's are a mixture of mid to long (two par three's over 200 yards from the tips). The only negative or drawback was that during our entire round we didn't see not one cart person for much needed refreshments. Other than that it was a sensational December day to golf in West Central Florida. Hopefully I'll see you on the tee box soon.

If you have ever thought about trying the game of golf...then this is the place you need to come to for outstanding golf instruction. These golf classes caters to ladies only. And the classes are limited to 6 students. This way, you get personal attention & instruction. The 10 hour class I attended , met Monday - Friday for 2 hours a day. Also, the instructor offers private lessons for both men and women. Sandra Chester is the LPGA teaching professional that will guide you through the basics along with her great assistant Kim. They have excellent booklets, with great illustrations for both right and left handed golfers. The booklets cover everything from general golf course information to equipment that you will need. From day 1 we not only had indoor class time, we also headed outside for hands on putting. I would truly recommend these classes to all ladies from the beginners to those who just want to learn the correct way to stand, hold your club, or just improve your game. Thanks to Sandra and Kim, I now feel that I can play a game and not make a total fool of myself. These ladies know the game of golf but more importantly, they know how to teach the rest of us the game!!! I plan on taking a few private lessons just to refine my swing.

I've completed 6 one hour lessons with Nicole Gerome. I've had a huge improvement from absolute no…read morenothing to being able to golf with confidence and humor around The Villages. I'll be totally honest. I had next to no interest in the game but with so many golf courses here, well, I was missing out on important social opportunities and quality time with husband and friends. So let's give it a shot . Nicole listened and did not try to convince me how awesome golf is, instead we just worked together on skills and I asked questions about the game. She answered simply and I listened. I started playing golf and sort of held my own in the beginning and now I consider myself " not half bad" and enjoy playing. Whenever people say, whoa, nice shot, I always say I had a great teacher. Thank you, villages academy, you have a great instructor in Nicole.

I show up at the time I was told and show them my reminder card and of course nothing can be done about it. They apologized and told me I could come back in a few hours or rebook. The mistake was entirely their fault. Initially it took 20 minutes to book the lesson because they were using a new computer system that no one was good with, only for them to give me the wrong lesson time. Clearly they need to have a better tutorial on their computer system, as it was an overall huge waste of time. It's too bad. I had heard good things about The Villages and was looking forward to a golf lesson -- but it's expensive and they can't even work their own computer lesson booking system. Perhaps it was an honest mistake, but I was so turned off by the whole thing I didn't even bother rebooking.

Gotta love Wedgwood Golf Course. It might be a short, par 29, nine hole course, but you've got to…read morehit good shots to score well. It's owned and managed by a couple named John & Ellen. They also had a course up in North Dakota. I think they would run one during the winter and the other half of the year they were at the other course. Super nice people and John is a player. Don't play him straight up...you'll need to handicap it and take your strokes, especially if you are playing at Wedgewood. They sold the North Dakota course and are here full time now. No tee times needed, just show up and they will take care of you. You can rent pull carts and they have a few electric carts, but it's really a walking course. They've got a couple of par fours and the rest are par threes. Local rules listed on back of scorecard read: 1. ONE tee shot. NO Mulligans 2. Keep Electric Carts 15 feet from greens and OFF Tee areas. 3. Keep pull carts OFF greens, tees and collars. 4. Repair ball marks on greens and replace divots. 5. NO hitting from lawns. Lawns are out of bounds. Drop ball within 2 club lengths from point where ball crosses out of bounds line. One penalty stroke. 6. Lost ball or unplayable lie in woods: Drop ball within 2 club lengths. One penalty stroke. 7. Observe golf etiquette - if there is an open hole ahead, SPEED UP or allow faster players through! 8. CLEAR greens IMMEDIATELY after putting out. 9. Shirts required! Nine simple rules for this awesome little track. These local rules are very fair. In fact, the actual rules of golf are more penal, so go by these when you play and you should score better. It's a bit of a hike to get to, but it's worth playing. It's close to Black Bear and there are several other courses in the area. I would suggest playing Wedgewood either before or after another round at one of the 18 hole layouts nearby like Red Tail or Eagle Dunes. Avid players will really appreciate this course but I recommend it to all players because it is in good shape and the people are nice. Bring your short game or you'll be grinding like you are at any of the championship courses in town. This game is tough no matter what the yardage or target score!
