This course was renamed to The Golf Club at Ocala Preserve a few years ago. It is open to the…read morepublic, although they do have a membership. The pro shop is a small building in the back of the parking lot for the club house. (The clubhouse is gorgeous - huge gym, expansive pool with those flexible stretched out overhead coverings to provide shade, a restaurant and a spa!) There is a unisex bathroom in the pro shop. They sell snacks, drinks, golf merch etc. There's plenty of parking. They have push carts and golf carts available. The golf carts are pretty basic- no gps, no speaker, just a small cooler (and I have never seen an ice machine or ice), no towels, no tees. Call ahead for tee time availability because a lot of people play here. They will go over the course with you as the course changes often. They try to do a lot with a little space and that means changing tee boxes and changing green locations etc to make great use of their course. They have an 18 hole course, par 72, Friday through Sunday and a 9 hole course, par 54, that you can play through twice from Tuesday to Thursday. Fees are $45 with cart, $35 to walk. Walking is actually not bad but sometimes the next hole can be far away; this last time I played, they had to escort me to hole 7 because they had really moved things around. They recommend the cart for that round, but I have walked this course in the past. The course is in really great shape. It's quite beautiful. Some water hazards, a lot of sand traps. There is a bathroom along the course, I'd say which hole but they change it all the time. Pro tip: bring a range finder. This course is not available on 18 Birdies golf app and because they change it so often- there isn't really a distance marked by the tee boxes or on a scorecard. This makes it very challenging! It IS available on the Grint app but I remember the holes being wrongly labeled and not having all of them available.

Please bear with me as I try to guide you through life at Golden Ocala. Home/Villa Rentals: 5 stars! Amazing accommodations for a really reasonable price. Whenever we have larger groups of people visiting this is our first choice. Comparable to a nice hotel, the beautiful villas are lush and abundant in size, with beautiful furniture and full GO access. Spa: 4 stars! I love the massages here and I am a regular during the winter months. The front desk can be a bit slow, but this is mostly due to their faulty technology. The staff member are all super nice. I give 5 stars for the services but 3 stars for the prices, which were recently increased. Worth it for me but definitely on the pricey side. Fitness: 4 stars! Best part is, the fitness center usually isn't too busy. They have some great equipment but could use a few more cardio machines. More space for floor exercises and a few more unique guided classes could up the ante. Tennis Club: 4 stars! 6 Well maintained, gorgeous clay courts. It can be a bit of a hassle to get ahold of the staff (unless you have their cell #) the tennis desk usually isn't receptive to phone calls. Love the women's clinic they offer for members. Lessons are also available and I've had mostly positive experiences with the coaches. Pool: 5 stars! Gorgeous pool- it's so picturesque, located adjacent to the spa and fitness center. Enjoy a drink poolside and take lots of photos. It's definitely instagram worthy! AND you can bring your dog. Pool Food: 3 stars! Decent variety of food, but I've had some pretty sub-par service here. We eat here occasionally for lunch, but the service really could use some improvements. Once, they even refused to add tomatoes to my Caesar salad because "it wasn't on the menu like that" Raspberries: 4.5 stars! Fine dining situated on the upper floor of the gorgeous clubhouse. I love the food and the company here. The staff is outstanding and really take their time to know and love regular patrons like me. The dauphanise potatoes are amazing. Epic Caesar salad, great bread, potent drinks, high end wine list, excellent menu features (flatbread of the week etc) I love dining here! The kitchen staff can sometimes be a bit slow, but this year (so far) I've had nothing but great experiences. Golf: TBD I'm not a golfer! The course is beautiful to walk and the greens seem to be kept in pristine condition. Security: 3.5 stars! The staff mostly consists of retirees working occasional hours. They aren't the most respectful and fail to remember who I am sometimes. Equestrian: TBD can't wait to see The World Equestrian Center South once it's completed. The original equestrian center at GO isn't quite what I would pursue, but the new facility looks grandiose. Overall I love Golden Ocala! A few minor things could be improved. In my 10+ years living here in the winter months and being involved in the dining, social, tennis, and spa scenes, I have had a mostly great experience. A few faux pas and minor altercations with certain staff members have been forgotten and far surpassed by positive interactions. Note: Golden Ocala is a member's only club. They offer social memberships but otherwise you must be member, (or family of one) to enjoy their accommodations. Social memberships are not cheap but can be utilized if you wish to spend lots of time here.

However, tonight my wife and I were enjoying Sunday at the Tiki Bar. Suddenly we smelled the cigarette smoke coming from some folks by the fire pit area. I saw the Manager return from the smokers and claimed he addressed the situation as best he could. My better half is close to requiring an oxygen tank. The last thing she needs is second hand smoke. Please ensure to enforce our "No Smoking" restaurant policy equally amongst those who violate such policies.

Our instructor, Billy Speckman, is fantastic and super encouraging. He got me back on track after years of not playing and is able to make learning golf for my husband not frustrating. The driving range is good also - you can use your credit card at the ball machine to get balls or go inside and pay. If you have a lesson package, you get a free warm up bucket on Sundays for a few weeks, depending on what package you picked. They also have a sand trap to practice from, mat tees, and a grass hitting area. They also have the TopTracer system, so you can download the app on your phone and then see how far you hit each of your clubs. Buckets are $5, $9 and I think $11(not sure on the large bucket). In this heat, a $5 bucket is about all I can handle and I usually end up giving my last few to someone else. They're open until 7 everyday and it hasn't been too crowded, so easy to find a mat - at least the times we go. The shop sells various golf items also and you can setup a club fitting. This is our go to range now.
