His "game" is to ensure you receive the best dental services in the industry. He interacts with his staff as a genuine mentor and coach. Those who don't know him may think he is stern or curt while directing and commanding his team. I can assure you that after being his patient for 10+ years that his primary focus is "The Patient." His staff respects him and never takes his sometimes-assertive counsel. Abby, a dental hygienist, and relatively new team member at the company is my new dental concierge. She is friendly, professional, and hyperaware of the patient's comfort and outcomes. One of my requests before a traditional tooth scaling is to use the Cavitron Ultrasonic Scaler that she was more than happy to use before and after my cleaning. A Cavitron is an electronic device whereby the scaling tip vibrates and follows a pattern depending on power rating and type. Water is energized as it passes over the tip to provide cavitation, which results in a scouring action. The Cavitron produces fantastic results by descaling the teeth, among other uses, that leads to less traditional tooth scaling by the dental instruments that frighten most of the public. It is painless and sometimes tickles as the hygienist touches each tooth for only a few seconds. The next time you are at the dentist, request that the hygienist uses the Cavitron before cleaning your teeth. If your dentist doesn't have the state-of-the-art leading equipment, you chose the wrong dentist. Southern York Smile Care's Shrewsbury, PA, office makes you feel at home. Dr. Haywood and his team help me to maintain my dental health and beautiful, bright white teeth. I found Dr. Haywood on Yelp. I wrote an accurate, descriptive review of Dr. Haywood, his services, personnel, and office on Yelp and Google. I first visited Dr. Haywood about five years ago because I thought I had a cavity because of the sensitivity of a molar, on the right side of my mouth, while chewing food. During the exam, Dr. Haywood reviewed the X-rays and explained to me that he understood why I was experiencing pain while eating food. I said that I had four fractured molars. I suffer from Epilepsy and have nighttime seizures. Over the last few years, I must have fractured my molars during the seizures while I was asleep. Dr. Haywood performed extensive work on the fractured teeth. He made a nightguard for me to wear while I sleep which has prevented any future fractures. In addition to the four crowns, Dr. Haywood completed minor cosmetic work on other teeth to make each tooth perfect visually. Since then, I visited the office for a professional tooth whitening visit. The results were amazing. I got to keep the electronic whitening kit and tubes of professional whitening gel. Whenever I visit the office for cleanings and exams, the hygienist gives me whitening gel at no costs. Although a friendly dentist and team are important to me, competence and expertise trump friendliness. Luckily, Dr. Haywood and his group of professionals combine the best of all worlds.

I arrived at my appointment and indicated that I intended to use my dental insurance. At no time when I scheduled my appointment, nor at any time before I was actually seen by the providers was I advised that this provider is not considered in network for my dental insurance. This is in spite of the fact that I provided my insurance card and indicated on the forms that I intended for my insurance to be the primary payer. I was not advised that I was going to be responsible for the majority of my bill until after the service was provided when I was checking out. This was extremely disappointing. I have had the same dental insurance for three years and have never had to pay out of pocket for a cleaning. I was told by this office that that was because my previous provider was in network. I was advised by this office that they are not in network. I expressed my disappointment in the experience, not necessarily because I was being charged by an out of network provider, but because I feel that they intentionally waited until I was seen to tell me I was going to be on the hook for the bill even though they knew that prior to my being seen. When I asked the front desk staff why I wasn't advised of this before I saw the provider I was told that any such warning would be purely a courtesy. She then insinuated that the woman who checked me in wasn't particularly thorough. I simply don't find this to be very good customer service or very good business practice. My dental services were just fine. If you're paying out-of-pocket I would recommend this provider. However, if you are using insurance I would advise that you make a point to ask the front desk staff outright how much you are going to be responsible for your service before you go back. Otherwise, they obviously are not going to let you know. One additional point I should make: my appointment was scheduled for 1 o'clock. I arrive 10 minutes prior. I was not seen until 1:30. What should've been a rather short experience turned into a very long ordeal.
