This is a long overdue review…read more.. Once I found out that they give cheese tours, I made it a compulsory event on my to do list. They host monthly Saturday cheese tours and it cost $7 per person. Remember to call or email in advance to reserve a spot. My boyfriend and I arrived ~10 mins earlier than the scheduled tour. The ladies in the cheese shop area were super nice and told us to start sampling the cheese whilst we wait for the other parties to arrive. This was the first time I heard and tasted quark. We were told by the staff that it can be used in place of yoghurt - eg. eat it straight up or add it to baking. For the tour, they will give you shoe/boot covers and a hair net. They shut down the production line whilst giving the tour, which makes sense for hygiene reasons. The production area was immaculate! The tour guide told us they clean all the equipments and production area at the end of each day after a batch of cheese is made. The tour was informative and our guide was happy to answer all our questions. Apparently ~4000 liters of milk makes 100kg worth of cheese. Out of all the different production stages/areas, we spent the longest in the impressive "cheese cave". There were so many wheels of cheese!!! Each wheel weighs ~10kg and the net worth of cheese in the aging room were in the millions. After the tour the different parties waited in line to buy cheese. The cheese are all vacuum sealed to prolong storage life. Out of the 6 types of cheese I bought, the truffle flavour was favourite. It had a strong truffle aroma with an underlying milky taste.

HUGE selection of flavoured peanuts the moment you walk in! Usually they have dishes out for you to…read moreactually try the flavours before you buy, but we got in a bit late so they cleaned all that up. They have coated nuts, ones that are roasted in a specific flavouring, etc. So it's a nice variety for you to take home and try / gift to your friends/ family! They also have some unique snacks and candies like banana chips, special kettle chips, home made candy, and I hear they got some popsicles/ ice cream in the summer ;) Nice place to stop by and grab a treat if you're heading for Saint Jacobs! Oh! And everythings quite a nice, decent price.

I have to visit this little peanut shop every time I visit St. Jacobs. It's a landmark in the area…read moreand for a good reason! They have an extensive selection of flavourful nuts and chocolates. I remember seeing peanuts, pecans, cashews, and almonds, and they have different each one in different flavours. They also have chocolate blueberries, cherries, raisins, cranberries, and clusters. Best to just go and check it out for yourself as I can't remember all their products. You won't be disappointed! They're all fairly priced as well. Most items are about 125g to 200g for $2.99. Some products come in a smaller and larger package. Must-try items: peanuts enrobed in a crispy potato chip shell and caramel crisp clusters They're highly addictive! The caramel crisp clusters were so good that I almost finished the entire box in one sitting. Soft chewy caramel dipped in chocolate with little crispy pieces! Craving it from just thinking about it. The crispy potato chip peanuts come in many flavours and I have never seen it being sold anywhere else! Super crispy shell! They have little containers of peanuts on the shelf above some products for you to try before purchasing. They have the crispy potato shell for sunflower seeds too, but there are less flavours to choose from. I believe they also sell ice cream during the summer and the staff are very friendly. St. Jacobs is a beautiful quaint little town near Waterloo so aside from going to Picard's, you can also stop by the town (another 2-3 minute drive). Definitely worth visiting!
