They've got a great selection of malts, hops, flavouring, and equipment. Additionally, they sell homebrew starter kits for a reasonable price for the budding homebrewer. They've got a small selection of great books on homebrewing to help you learn the ins and outs. A great and unique feature here is the bike powered malt grinder! It makes you work a little for your beer, and I think that makes it taste better.

They have an annual wine tasting event which is helpful in deciding what to make. The owners can also recommend wines based on your taste and price range. We've made some wine that was good for making sangria and some that others rave about and still others thought was an expensive wine from the Okanagan. We're awaiting our next batch...

I recommend knowing what you are after before entering the store (selection is overwhelming, in a good way of course) but your head will spin. I had the pleasure of speaking to Flory via email once or twice and placed a few small orders in the past (airlocks, yeast, and a much needed siphon for my one gallon carboys). Pricing & selection can't be beat (I've looked around and they beat all competitor pricing from what I can tell). I will be back!

Bottling your wine at gilander's is an experience in itself, especially when you are a wine lover…read more The staff is very helpful and sweet. Welcome you with a smile and inviting attention. There is alot to know for a first timer like me so be patient with them and let them explain you the whole process of how to get the wine prepared. Basically , they would do everything for you but you got to select the end product and quantity you want. For me the guy went extra mile as i requested the facility tour and learnt about Wine making process from him. As you visit first time , you purchase the juice as per different price range and the quantity. Pay for it and you are off the hook for some weeks. I mean they will do the fermentation,degassed,filteration process for you. And when the finished product is ready , they would call you to come bottle your wine. Now its upto you to get your own bottles or they would provide you with them. Stickers and caps on your wine bottle could also be customized at this very facility. Imagine gifting your friends a bottle of wine with your company logo or just a cute thank you message. I would say it was cost effective too as i got 30 bottles in $253.00 after taxes which makes each bottle worth $8 with taxes. It took almost 2 months for my wine to be prepared so i was called during quarantine time to fill the bottles n i must say the sanitation measures were highly followed. In fact only two people were allowed in the facility at a time. They made sure that everything was sanitized. Infact the bottles are anyways washed and sanitized before being filled with wine. An experience to enjoy at any time of the year. Steps of wine making here as follows: 1. Purchase juice 2. Primary fermentation 3. Degassed 4. Secondary fermentation ( on shelfs) 5. The brand name "Cat and Jack".. saw that a lot. The prices were very, very low for brand new items however on this visit, they were not high quality items. We did see sheets, towels, blankets.. in packages, brand new! Toys.. some nicer than others. Very interested to see what else they bring in. The inventory is supposed to be constantly changing. I didn't buy anything on this visit but we did hear the sales clerk telling customers "Have a McFrugal Day!" With great enthusiasm! I will have to visit again when they are fully stocked.

I had a floor walker security guard approached me accusing me of stealing I go there every week sometimes twice a week I spend large amounts of money in that store. I cannot believe the floor walker security guard tried to make me stay in the store without double checking cameras, then confronting me he just assumed and accused and approached me so long story short I will never spend another dime at MacFrugal's. I'm sorry to all the other customers that were in the store while I put the store on hell on wheels for being accused, but I'm not sorry not even an apology wayyyyy out of protocol
