TJS MAXX is one of my favorite stores. The Dekalb location is just as nice as the others I've…read morevisited. However, I am a little upset with an employee I encountered a few days ago. The girl checking me out was very sweet but another employee behind the counter was very abrupt and not so nic. I needed to break a 100 dollar bill and since I was already there I simply asked if they could break it for me. A woman employee in a red top rudely snapped at me and in a nasty tone told me in no uncertain terms that they couldn't open up their registers. A nicer tone would have been fine. I left that store feeling like I committed a criminal act for merely asking a question. I understand that people try to pass illegal bills but a simple, I'm sorry we can't would have sufficed. Instead I a 73 year old woman was treated like a con artist. TJ Maxx in Dekalb needs to have a talk with this woman. I'm very upset with the way she treated me.

I stopped by again a few weeks ago, shortly before moving out of the area, and was stunned at the…read moreimprovements they made to the store. I had stopped by several times in the past year and a half that I lived in the area, and on each of those occasions, it was as though a tornado passed through. On my most recent visit, almost everything was organized neatly, and the items that were not , or that were clearly tampered with, were all placed in clearance, as they should have been in the first place. I was also pleasantly surprised at the new selection of beauty and hair products they had - including Too Cool for School, and even Dippity Do, which is relatively hard to find in the US. I am giving this update a 3/5 stars, one more than last time, because as impressed as I was with the improvements, it should have never been as bad as it was. Service was still friendly, so I would say its up to par with the other TJ Maxx branches I have visited. Though I moved away, I hope they keep the store as organized as it was on my last visit. I made sure to mention how impressed I was while checking out, and that I hope they keep it this way.

If it was 2 weeks ago before alterations, I would give them a 5-star review. They have a nice…read moreselection of dresses. The teens that work there are very nice. Very limited mirror space for viewing. We did find 2 dresses and I spent nearly $1,000 on 2 prom dresses for my twins. Plus, I love supporting small business and drove 2 hours each way to do this! We drove 70 miles 4x to get dresses and subsequent alterations. On our last visit when we picked up a dress that had been altered, they asked me to pay BEFORE my daughter tried on her altered dress. WHO DOES THIS? Unless they know there is something that you are NOT going to be happy with. Well sure enough, the dress was worse than before it was altered. Yes, they offered to fix it and told me it would be a couple of hours. Again, we live 2 hours away and I wasn't expecting to spend the day in DeKalb. If you're going to charge me $65 for alterations, they should be done by someone who knows how to alter corseted dresses with boning in them. Again, to spend $540 on a dress that looked better before they altered it, I was very upset. They didn't even apologize. I guess once they've made the FINAL SALE - NO RETURNS, they don't care if you come back again.

My group went to the clearance section in the basement, which was very fun until the manager and a worker came down. The manager yelled at us for trying on different dresses, which is not okay. I felt very rushed and uncomfortable near the end as the worker kept trying to yank the dresses out of my hands before I made a decision on whether or not to try it on. Very poor service. Don't go and support them.
