They have been incredibly kind,…read morecompassionate, and supportive while helping us care for our senior cat, Poopoo, through some very difficult health issues. What I appreciate most is that I have always felt like they genuinely care about her quality of life and about us as her family. They have taken the time to answer my many questions, explain what is happening, discuss realistic options, and help us figure out how to care for her at home. I have never felt rushed, dismissed, or judged for asking questions or wanting to understand every option available to us. During a stressful and emotional time, their team has helped make things feel much more manageable. I especially appreciate the honesty and compassion they have shown when discussing her condition. They have celebrated the good signs with us while still being realistic about her health, which means more than they probably realize. Poopoo is incredibly important to our family, and knowing that she is being cared for by people who treat her with kindness and dignity gives us so much peace of mind. Thank you to everyone at Riverpark Pet Hospital for taking such wonderful care of our girl and for being so patient with her very worried humans. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone looking for a veterinary team that truly cares about their patients.

This vet was wonderful until it wasn't; I will not elaborate on the circumstances that caused me to change vets but will give my basic overview below. I would say this vet is okay with normal procedures and basic care; anything more than that I cannot recommend them to anyone. If you have a serious concern/issue and use this vet, please seek a second opinion if you at all feel like your concerns were not addressed or something doesn't feel right. I wish we had; it may have saved our precious girl.

Our first experience was with Greta in July of 2023. 16.5 year old Greta was giving us the heads up that she was ready to go. Dr. Gary came in and Greta went peacefully across the rainbow bridge. Greta's brother Wesley, made it to 17.5 years. Ands just has his sister. He moved on peacefully with the help of Dr. Gary. Bella. Our big girl. Still jumping in the couch and chasing the rc car all the way up to a couple weeks ago. In just three days. She stopped eating and was giving us those eyes that we have seen to often non the last year. I am sure Wesley was calling her to walk with him along the mystical canal. Bella. Also just short of 17 years. Not the most touchy feely girl. She came and laid down on the bed where Dr. Gary and I were sitting. All three are together now.

1-29-25: My cat of 15 years passed at home…read more After about 6pm I was crying and still had her body in my arms. I called and they asked if I needed someone to come out and put her down. I said no, she already passed and I still had her body in my arms and was calling about cremation services and how much it would cost. The person on the other line went silent. I kept saying hello, hello for awhile, but realized they disconnected the call. We went to Cedar Veterinary instead and took her and paid for her cremation. Not a good way to handle a call after a person's pet has crossed the rainbow bridge.

The place is very easily located on Blackstone very close to Hearndon. The practice is physically huge, and extremely well kept up. The lobby is clean, spacious and very client oriented with a phone charging station, coffee, tea and snacks available. Even late at night there were two folks manning the front desk, and let me tell you, they are rock stars: calm, patient and unflappable, friendly and caring. Everyone we dealt with that night was calm, professional and empathetic. Our issue was serious, and got immediate attention. The doctor was calming and knowledgable, and gave us very complete information. We were there a long while that night and into the next morning, and staff was the same with everyone who came in. The hospital is remarkably well equipped. Vet medicine is never quick, but it was clear they were doing their best throughout. We HIGHLY recommend these folks in general, but especially for after hours emergencies. One note: they are very good, but this is not an inexpensive option.

1-Star Review -- Extremely Disappointing Experience…read more I brought my dog Ellie to Fresno Veterinary Specialty and Emergency when she was already extremely sick, and we were very worried about her. The first thing they did was hand us a $780 estimate/authorization to sign so they can perform a triage. We did NOT sign it. We asked for an emergency exam because we needed to know what was wrong with our dog. What was extremely frustrating was that the emergency exam basically consisted of us telling the vet what was wrong. They did not check her vitals or perform any testing until we agreed to additional charges. They then presented us with another charge of about $300 to test for parvo, which we agreed to. It came back negative. They then offered to check her blood sugar, which was another additional charge. Her blood sugar was 28. We were repeatedly told that Ellie would not make it if we didn't hospitalize her. We asked what other options we had, and they offered a dextrose injection, explaining that it might raise her blood sugar within 15 minutes to an hour. But insisted that it would not be enough to help her. We agreed to the injection anyway and signed for the treatment. Afterward, they told us they did not recommend taking her home because she would not make it through the night. We took her home anyway. On the way, we bought a blood glucose meter so we could monitor her ourselves. Ellie continued getting worse, and we were even considering taking her back to euthanize her because we didn't want her suffering. Before doing that, I checked her blood sugar myself. It was over 400. Her blood sugar had been 28 at the hospital and was over 400 after the dextrose injection. I am not a veterinarian, so I cannot say whether the dosage was too much, but seeing such a drastic change while my dog was getting worse was terrifying. I decided not to give up on her. I stayed up with her, syringe-fed her, gave her water, monitored her blood sugar, and cared for her through the night. Ellie survived. She is now doing amazing and is completely fine. What makes this experience even more upsetting is that this was the third time my family experienced something similar at this hospital. The first time was with my brother's dog. He was told essentially the same thing -- that there was no hope for his dog. Unfortunately, he trusted that information and made the heartbreaking decision to euthanize her. The second time was with my sister's dog. She was also told there was little to no hope and was presented with numerous tests and charges. My sister decided to take her dog home instead. Her dog got better. Then it happened to me with Ellie. After what happened with Ellie, this was my last straw. I understand emergency veterinary care is expensive, and I understand that tests and treatment cost money. My issue is feeling like you cannot get real answers or options without continually agreeing to additional charges, while being told your pet has little to no chance. I truly believe Ellie could have died if I had simply accepted what I was told and given up on her. I will never take another pet here again. If you bring your pet here, ask questions, make sure you understand exactly what is included in the exam, ask about alternatives, and don't be afraid to get a second opinion.

I especially want to recognize Dr. Thiels. Over the years, he cared for both of our boys and was consistently compassionate, thoughtful, and incredibly thorough. He always took the time to explain what was happening and our options in a way that made us feel informed and reassured, particularly during some of the most difficult moments of pet ownership. Most recently, our family was faced with an unexpected and heartbreaking situation with our Wheaten. Dr. Thiels helped us navigate an incredibly difficult decision with such kindness, respect, and reassurance. He never made us feel rushed or judged, and the compassion he showed both our dog and our family during his final moments is something I will never forget. He was peaceful, safe, loved, and in my arms when we said goodbye, and I will always be grateful to Dr. Thiels for helping make that possible. The compassion at Waterhouse extends well beyond one veterinarian. From the front desk and technicians to the entire veterinary team, we have consistently felt that our animals were genuinely cared about here, not simply treated as patients. After all these years, what I wrote in my original review still holds true, but I understand it even more now: there are people in veterinary medicine who are clearly doing this work because they truly care about animals and the families who love them. Dr. Thiels and the team at Waterhouse are those people. We are incredibly grateful for the many years of care and compassion they have given our family.

This was my second time bringing my…read moreroughly 3-year-old Bernedoodle mix here, and I knew after our first experience that this was where I wanted to take him for his annual exam and vaccines. Our first visit was actually an emergency about a year ago after he got into human medication. The team at Waterhouse acted quickly and helped save his life, so when it was time for his annual checkup, I felt very comfortable bringing him back. I also really appreciate that they are open on Saturdays, which makes scheduling appointments so much easier with my work schedule. The veterinarian was incredibly thorough. She asked about his energy level, lifestyle, diet, and activities, and carefully checked his eyes, lungs, heart, weight, and overall health. She also took the time to discuss vaccine options beyond his routine rabies vaccine based specifically on our lifestyle. We live in Riverstone, and when we're out walking, my boy is notorious for trying to drink from puddles and being interested in all the pigeons and other wildlife around the neighborhood. She recommended an additional vaccine that could help protect against potential bacterial infections associated with contaminated water and wildlife exposure. I really appreciated that she wasn't just checking boxes with his annual vaccines, she was thinking about what actually made sense for him and the things we do together. They also helped with his anal glands. He wasn't impacted, but they were full and needed some help being expressed. That was an additional $34, but it was absolutely worth it for his comfort. He ended up getting four vaccines plus the anal gland expression, and our entire visit was under $275, including the exam. I felt like he received very thorough, thoughtful care without feeling like I was being pushed into unnecessary services. I left feeling very happy that I chose Waterhouse and confident that my boy was well cared for. I would definitely recommend them to other pet owners!

Veterinarian recommended to schedule TPLO surgery for $5,000+ after reviewing the x-rays I could see that the ligament was half torn. The veterinarian wasn't open to suggestion to rest and healing as an option? After viewing the half torn ligament, the Internet recommended with two months of crate rest with major restriction of movement which could heal with scar tissue. Armstrong to this day has never responded or followed up with me to schedule the TPLO surgery or most importantly to check in to see how Rosie is doing. It's been over two months now since Rosie's movement restriction plan and Rosie is walking and running on all four legs evenly with no favoritism of injured leg! I would not recommend Armstrong Pet hospital and warn clients of our experience should you elect to have TPLO surgery. Their tactic to scare you into invasive pet surgery at a costly rate, very minimal customer service and at least amount caring for the pet. It's my opinion that Armstrong Veterinary is mostly interested in charging emotional pet owners. One bit of advice, or information I received after extensive questioning the veterinarian which did not appreciate in my opinion with his body language and tone towards us! Should you elect to have the TPLO surgery, it is highly for certain that the pet will likely need in time on their other leg because they'll favor the bad leg and create too much stress on their good leg! Recommendation do your research take a chance in my case it worked out wonderful and Rosie are red healer is thriving. It was worth the 2 to 3 months caring! Rosie, our red healer, enjoying a ride, running on all four legs now! Do not let Armstrong Vet Hospital bully you into surgery, especially if the ligament is still intact.
