ZERO STARS! WORST MASSAGE EVER! I found STL Massage on GROUPON. Unfortunately, you cannot write reviews on Groupon or this could of probably been avoided. My therapist was Ken. First, the way this business makes appointments is through EMAIL ONLY! What a pain in the ass! It's a back-and-forth process. You email them your available times and dates then they email you back. It took seven emails before I had a time and a date set!!! Ridiculous! (Because of this, I knew I would never go back) Second, their web page is a bunch of information all bunched together. It's completely unorganized and almost impossible to navigate and comprehend. Third and foremost, IT WAS THE WORST MASSAGE IVE EVER HAD! EVER! I purchased a 90-minute Swedish massage. Ken hardly used any pressure whatsoever! I asked him three different times to apply more pressure during the massage. He would for about 30 seconds to a minute and then go back to what he was doing previously. He did not massage my neck, hands or feet!?!?!?! What kind of massage is that? I had a crick in my neck that I told him about when I got there. He didn't even touch it! When I asked about it, he simply said "I did the best I could." I am frustrated, disappointed and unsatisfied. Never again!!! Fourth, it was dirty! No aromatherapy, no rugs on the floor, a sheet placed on top of the vinyl padding that is it! I had a great experience with Ken! I bought a $36 Groupon for a 50-min massage. First, the scheduling is done via email. I had no issues with this. I got a response within a few hours and was booked 2-weeks later (despite being fully booked a month and a half out!). Note that I was pretty flexible with dates so I'm sure that made scheduling easier. I went to the Clayton location and the only downfall is the parking meters which is no fault of STL Massage. Luckily, got a meter already with 40 min on it haha. Upon arriving, Ken greets you and asks you to fill out a form. The room is pretty small, dark, delightfully warm, and decorated. This was my first professional massage and Ken guided me through what to expect. Also, when talking to him while laying on the table, he would come closer but also politely look a different direction to respect privacy of your position! I found that to be extremely thoughtful! The massage was indeed exactly 50-min, no more, no less. I asked him to focus on my neck and my shoulders due to a recent injury. When I asked him to forgo his usual routine of the lower body to focus on my neck/shoulders, he obliged. When I asked for more pressure, this was applied through the rest of the massage. Bought Groupon. Terrible massage. I've been a member at Massage Envy for 5 years, so I did this as a comparison, and figured I couldn't go wrong with the $20 price tag. The girl I had seemed very new to the business, and that's fine. What's not fine is that she didn't seem to understand the meaning of deep pressure. Even after I requested deeper pressure, I could barely feel her touching me. This was more of a light application of oil to my skin than an actual massage. I'll stick with true professionals at Massage Envy. Updated 4/6/17 in response to Ken's comments... Ken - Not surprised at your comments at all. Rather than taking constructive criticism and using it to improve upon your service, you deflect all blame and fabricate stories like "this must be a Massage Envy employee". I paid Groupon $19.99 (which included a $10 off promotion on that particular day), so yes, you don't market your service at $20, but that's what I paid. Wow! The massage I've been waiting for! I wasn't exactly expecting too much as I've been let down by some top massage places, so I was more than pleasantly surprised. My husband and I went in for a couples massage and we got Katie and Theresa for our masseuses. They were both fantastic. Very professional with the perfect touch. My husband usually has a hard time finding a masseuse that will use the right pressure and he didn't have to ask her to be more firm at all. The waiting room and office were just whatever but the massage room was fantastic. Nice and warm, great lighting, relaxing. Anything that office and waiting room lacked Katie and Theresa more than made up for. Honestly I'd rather get the great value they offer and wait in a plain waiting room! I had an excellent experience at STL Massage. I purchased a living social voucher for a couples massage for $60. The massage was 50 minutes and Chris and Cynthia were incredible. They made us feel comfortable and were very professional. The facility is clean and relaxing. We plan on buying a massage book in order to come back and get excellent massages for a great deal! We recently went for a couple's massage and it was mediocre at best. We get regular therapy so for us low standard therapy was not acceptable, it felt like a sweat shop to me. Nobody there to greet you when you walk up the steps, read the signs and wait. The tables had polyester sheets directly on the vinyl table without any padding or heat, no aromatherapy, no hair bands, and no rugs on the floor which is essential for sanitary purposes. It took the Therapists over 10 min. to come into the room and they stopped our session almost 10 mins. early. The Therapists were conversing and laughing throughout the massage and just felt it wasn't professional enough. We both said we could not get into that relaxed state of letting go. Honestly, we thought it would be a nice couple's thing to do, but now we know we are greatly spoiled by our regular massage therapy place at A Healing Place Massage for Wellness in Richmond Heights and we will continue to go there, the Therapists are highly trained, the place is clean, the bathroom is beautiful, the tables are warmed and the aromatherapy is always included, the second you walk in you feel an amazing healing energy there which was really missing from STL Massage. One last note they did this head scratching thing at the end that was aweful for like 5-7 mins., not massaging or pressure points but head scratching, they need to learn to connect and take their time a bit more. When I got there on time, only 1 therapist was there saying there was a mix up and that no other therapist was contacted to come in. looking at the reviews at both ends of the spectrum here made me wonder if I should take advantage of the groupon. the short answer is yes! and when you come back, there are discounts to get low prices in the future. many groupon companies don't understand why they are failing to bring back customers! i did and my wife and i tried their couples massage. perhaps we had good masseuses, both of them female. it was not the most luxurious, exotic, decked out experience we have ever had. though for a young couple looking on groupon, it was both an excellent value and a good massage. no frills. the only real complaint is that their scheduling process is terrible. i noticed they extended through groupon our expiration date before we said anything. clearly they have problems booking people and could join the computer age. after we sorted how to book, it only took about a month to get in. if you go in with resort expectations, you will be disappointed. though you are not paying for the fully pampered resort prices. maybe somewhere fancier has discounted massage/spa experiences in st louis? hopefully if you try STL Massage, you have a good experience with their therapists like we did. if not, you're really not out much with their low prices. read more

Reading the other "not so pleasant" reviews, I couldn't help but say out loud, "yes! That happened to us, too!" We've had a couple other massages. This experience was odd to say the least. You walk up a flight of stairs and have to follow the signs...no person to greet you, no real clue where you're at. We kept thinking, is this someone's apartment, where are we? We got this couples massage on Groupon. Note to self: pay the extra amount for a legit massage. I don't want to know seconds before you come into our room that you were eating pizza so your breath might smell like ham and pineapple. I don't want to be greeted by you and you have a snotty tissue in your hand. I don't want to hear you clear your throat and sniffle throughout the ENTIRE massage. The oil, which was sparsely used, was ice cold. Why would anyone want cold oil rubbed on them. And use the oil please. They used maybe 2 pumps. Dry skin rubbing dry skin. My husband is a big guy. He can take some roughness. He told me this was the most painful experience of his life. We just kept saying afterwards what did we just do? I wish I was making this up. It was just so bizarre. And on top of this, I scheduled this appointment in December and confirmed with STL Massage the date and time. I got an email sent to my work email the day before it was scheduled that I'd need to confirm again or they will remove the appointment. What? We already confirmed this a month ago. What's happening? Are we being punk'd? The two individuals who gave us the massage were chatty, funny, very care-free. Now those characteristics are great if we're out for drinks, or perhaps at a social event. Apparently she "came in for my appointment only" that day and they had to see if the poiicy was going to be enforced. As one of the earlier reviewers stated, you get what you pay for. I Purchased the Couple's Massage on Groupon back in August. It took MONTHS to get an appointment. I was finally able to secure a Sat afternoon in Jan. With The amount of time it took to make a reservation (because they never answer the phone) I thought hmm this place must be poppin'! Quite the contrary. My boyfriend said his therapist apologized in advance if she wasn't "able to get all the kinks out". This should've been a red flag. My therapist karate chopped my legs and back like he was a ninja, then used his elbow in my back. Now this was the first time for both of us, but when we left we both said, surely massage isn't supposed to be painful. I felt like these were two young interns who needed to complete hours for their certification. I also didn't like the fact that the female therapist jumped up on the table to apply a deeper pressure point, and then my boyfriend said she was massaging his chest and didn't stand far enough away from his head when she was focusing on his neck, practically putting her private area on his head!! She was waaaay to talkative for my taste. She also kept clearing her throat and coughed a few times without washing her hands or using a sanitizer. The sheets looked like the same sheets and blanket used by the people who went before us. We laughed about it after the fact, but both agree we will never patronize this place again. Save your money and go to a nicer place. I was fooled into thinking that because it was a Clayton address it wouldn't be ratchet. I went to STL Massage with a Living Social...After 2 cancelled appoints due to the Ferguson deal the company finally offered me a weekend time. I told my therapist that I needed work on my back and neck only. I had to ask her 3 times to go deeper and even put her fingers on the knots in my neck; which she couldn't find once I let her finger go. I basically got a rub down and was in just as much pain when I left if not more than when I got there. I was VERY stressed and disappointed. First, off I would like to say to not judge a book by its cover. I am always a little bit skeptical about groupons that I buy for massages ever since I ended up showing up at an address that ended up being someones studio apartment. :/ So, when google maps took me to clayton and said I'd arrived and I didn't see a big sign anywhere that said STL Massage and Health I started to get worried the place was in a back alley somewhere. After walking into a nearby restaurant and asking them to point me in the right direction, I found the place in a Suite up some stairs right by Panera. Google maps was close but it took me past the location fyi. Anyways, I've had my share of massages and by far, this was the BEST massage I have ever gotten and I've had some good ones. To be fair, this is my first 120 minute massage but I have a feeling the hour long massage would be just as good. My masseuse's name was Theresa. I told her straight up that I needed a whole hour for my legs since I do boxing, kickboxing, softball, volleyball, running and weightlifting. She chuckled in her head I'm sure but after that 20 minutes just dedicated to my left hamstring, she believed me. She got out knots I didn't know I had and worked on a behind the knee problem I've been suffering with for almost a year now that other masseuse's couldn't find or fix. I was shocked by this massage experience, and not in a good way. I went to the Clayton location, not St. Peters. First, the store/office/whatever is peculiar - the carpet is dingy in a such way leading you wonder what insects it is festering, the handrail is unattached, there are fruit flies in the restrooms as the trash had not been taken out in a while. All of that I could have dismissed, if the massage were quality. It was not. I have received better massages from my SO. There was no technique, the pressure was non-existent despite asking for increased pressure; movements were erratic, no fluidity to the session, and the headrest smelled odd. It was the opposite of relaxation and seemed more like the type of place in which someone woke up that morning, thought "Gee, I should set up a "website" and pose as a massage service for some extra cash." It was the kind of place I began wondering what I was exposing myself to - bed bugs, lice, god knows what else. Horrible experience!
