What an awesome experience!! Kimmy was a fantastic teacher. She imparted a lot of knowledge and detail in a thorough but interesting manner while keeping it fun. I was a little intimidated by the idea of machine sewing before I came but they make it really approachable. I am already signed up for my next class! The whole place feels very welcoming, friendly, and judgement free. read more

This past Saturday I had a Sewing class, signed up through Renaissance Club. The reason I was excited for the class is that I have a wrist issue and it's hard to use my fingers, so sewing by hand is getting cumbersome to fix things and I was excited to learn how to use a sewing machine. On arrival I parked on the street which is 2 hour street parking and walked up to the door, only 5 minutes before 4pm which was the start of the class and I rang the doorbell. I was greeted at the door by someone who said I have to wait outside and they will unlock the door at 4pm. I thought this was strange but I said ok and went to wait in my car because it's so hot and humid outside I did not want to just stand outside. At 1 minute to 4 I got back out of my car and saw people were already inside and the door was once again locked so I had to ring the doorbell again. I personally feel this door lock policy is strange, but perhaps the area isn't safe so maybe they are protecting themselves from anybody just walking in but it feels impersonable. Upon entering I was directed immediately to wash my hands, as was everyone else, which is a good policy I like it that they want everyone to have clean hands before beginning. Our class of 4 was going to learn how to make a pillow. We were asked to choose 5 pieces of cloth so I of course got excited when I saw sparkly ones and got all the ones that had sparkles and then the 5th didn't because there were no other variations with sparkles. Then we sat in front of the sewing machine and I remember feeling so overwhelmed looking at it that I couldn't imagine that I'm going to be able to learn. Well, if you feel like me, then have no fear, because the instructor was kind and thorough. She goes through the process twice while you watch, and the third time you do it yourself and then she has you repeat it 3 times to get muscle memory. This was quite effective and I got it fast, and now a few days later I was talking to a friend and I was able to verbalize to her what the steps were so I remember! First we did some practice stitches on some scraps, and then we got to sewing our cloth! For a few minutes I had a feeling like maybe my cloth will not look good together why did I choose these, but after they were sewn together it suddenly transformed into something that was meant to be. Despite different designs and colors, it just flows. After those 5 scraps are sewn together to make a square or rectangle, then you get to choose a larger cloth to use as the back of the pillow. After we sewed the whole pillow except for the hole to add stuffing, we then could stuff our pillows with as much filling as we want. Some want thicker pillows some like them softer. I have a thing where I hate when the corners of my pillows aren't all filled with stuffing, so I was horrified when right before sewing the rest of the pillow shut all my hard work to get all 4 corners perfectly filled with stuffing were removed because they pulled all the stuffing downwards to empty the top to sew the hole and then they shook it out to refluff the stuffing. But now that the pillow was sewn shut, I could no longer reach in to make the perfect corners. If I may give some advice, I think that pushing it down so drastically was too much, we could have still easily sewn that hole shut if we only pushed down the middle stuffing and left the corners stuffed in my opinion. I still until now keep fidgeting with it to try to get the corners filled back in the way I had it but what I may end up having to do is cut open the hole again to fix it and then reclose it. Overall an extremely fun class. I never thought I would have so much fun and a feeling of gratification after using a sewing machine. The stitches come out so beautifully perfect and so fast. I do hope to take some of the other classes, the 2nd class in the series would be to make a reversible bag, the 3rd class is pajama pants, and the 4th class in the series is a little kit bag. I really do want to take these classes especially the pajamas class. I love that they measured us in anticipation for the future so we know how much material we will need to make our pants. read more

My daughter went in to the store to ask to reschedule her $55 sewing class (NOT ask for a refund). She found the door locked, with a note to ring the bell for service. When she did, she was met by an extremely rude woman who made it seem like my daughter had ruined her whole day. Long story short, this woman flat out refused to reschedule my daughter's class and did absolutely nothing to attempt to accommodate her. Her attitude was abhorrent. Not someone I'd want working for me! Rude employees and ZERO customer service. Absolutely unacceptable! They've lost what would have been an excellent repeat customer. read more

These people are amazing! My teacher was so good at explaining everything about sewing machines. I went into class thinking I would be terrible at sewing and probably make something that looks lumpy and crooked- instead, I left with a professional looking pillow with perfect corners and boosted confidence. I'm returning next week and bringing a friend! I am very grateful for Stitch Space- places like this are so special. If you need a fun and inspiring activity with friends or kids, bring them here! read more

I took many classs here and would love to start off with avoid this place and go somewhere else, They treat you differently based on who you are and beliefs I know the owner has different beliefs than me and was treated differently and also being Latin played a bigger role. Also they would not finish your project in a matter of time if they have others using the space up why would you book many clients at once in a small space knowing that you won't finish the project and have to keep scheduling classes and when you ask for help they just ignored many times I know exactly why too. They will judge you, and take your money and not help stay away from here. read more

I've been coming here for classes for a long time and have learned so much (and made some really good friends)! Everyone who works here is so helpful and knowledgeable--I'm pretty sure between all of them there isn't a question they wouldn't know the answer to. They've helped me make shirts and pants, hem garments and replace buttons, and I even made one of my wedding dresses here! If there's anything about sewing or knitting or crochet that you've ever wanted to learn, sign up for a class! Their special events are super fun, too, and would make a great friends night out. I just love, love, love this place. :) read more

I loved going to their classes. I didn't know anything about sewing and took the beginner classes where I learned all the basics and discovered a new community within LA. The people here are very nice and patient who all have a love for sewing. I went from being intimidated by my sewing machine to busting out bags for friends and bucket hats. Definitely go here if you need that spark to get started with a dream to sew. read more

I can't say enough about StitchSpace! It is a true gem! The owners, Miss Amy and Samantha are wonderful! Learning how to use a sewing machine can be frustrating and it takes some time to get it right; if you're looking for a place to learn without stress, this is it! Everyone is so patient and helpful. Our daughter is 14, and she's a pro at sewing thanks to Miss Amy. There's also all sorts of hand stitch, crotchet, and knitting projects you can learn to make. The camps are also a great way to create and finish more in-depth projects. Adults, you're welcome too! This is an all ages affair! One caution, cancellations are I believe on a 72 hour prior basis. And classes/workshops also fill up fast. But don't let these things deter you or your child from an absolutely fantastic experience! read more

Had an absolutely perfect first-time experience as a beginner learning to use a sewing machine. I signed up for their adult evening beginner class and was really impressed at the level of instruction and what we were able to accomplish in 2 hours. I learned to setup and thread the machine, how all the different parts work, how to back-stitch, regular stitches, how to pivot, and seam allowance. I went from 0 to completing a little project (making a pillow from scrap fabric) in just 2 hours and had a wonderful time. There were a lot of instructors, the space was warm and welcoming, everyone was kind and patient, and it was just a really good time. I look forward to taking some more classes there and making my way through the beginner projects. I highly recommend StichSpace if you are interested in having a crafting space and amazing personal instruction - I'm so grateful that I found this place! read more

The instructors are amazing honestly. Highly recommend taking classes here for machine, hand sewing, knitting and crochet.

My goodness, StitchSpace is a little oasis of magic. We brought our 10 Daisy Girl Scouts for a 2 hour embroidery class today and everything was so fun, beautiful and accessible for these young girls. The staff was incredible. Patient & knowledgeable. The project was so sweet and well thought out. They embroidered the Girl Scouts logo with cute buttons. Even the scheduling was easy. The moms are already planning to be back for a sip and sew moms night. Highly recommend this lovely spot. read more

I took a machine sewing machine class as part of the Renaissance Club activities, which sends you on "surprise" activities once a month. It was a decent hike for me from West LA but it was a very fun and educational afternoon. I hadn't touched a sewing machine since home ec class in junior high, but I've had a brewing desire to learn how to make some of my own tops. The instructor, Morgan, was so sweet and made things easy to learn. And I felt proud of myself that I was able to make a little pillow in my first go. I plan on coming back! read more

If I could give this place more than 5 stars I would, Samantha and Amy are really the nicest instructors ever along with the rest of their team. As a kid my dream has always been to make clothes and this place is really helping me pursue my dreams. I have taken 2 classes so far and the amount of things I have learned in a short amount of time is amazing. Whenever I was unsure about something or felt uncomfortable in a step they guided me in the right direction. If you are thinking about taking a class here I promise you won't regret it , I always leave my class feeling accomplished and more confident in my sewing journey each time. I am super happy to have found this place my only regret is not coming sooner! read more

Awful customer service, just awful. This is the second time we've had an issue. Last time we were a few minutes late, my daughter was saying goodbye to me and they were like chop, chop we have to get started. Today, the lady with the two tone reddish and black hair refused to let me stay with my daughter for her class because she was scared. There was a recent lockdown at her school because of a shooting at the park across the street. ZERO compassion, ZERO willingness to make an exception and instead said in a nasty tone, "yeah that's not our policy..." and "we can't allow you to do that..." I explained I'd sit on the bench by the window and read, but again, she was HORRIBLE. My daughter in tears. 0/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND! Giving it 1 star only because it's the lowest you can select. read more

The ownerAmy Is one if the nicest teachers I've ever had. Kind Caring and always willing to help. She is excited to see her students exceed and progress. She wants the success of all of her students. You can't go wrong if you study at this place. Man Roman big of girl it doesn't matter all are made to feel welcome. I had never seen anything before studying with Amy, after which I went out and bought my own machine and took great pleasure in being able to repair drapes and clothing that were too good to throw away but proud to know I could fix them myself , knowing that if I got into a jam I could call Amy and she would gladly give me help to accomplish my goal. My first project was a authentic cowboy duster overcoat. And it was better than anything I could have purchased in a store. read more

If you need a beginning space for you to learn, this is it! I had little to no sewing machine experience, and they've built up my knowledge so much! Sherman Oaks is lucky to have such a sweet and open space to be creative, learn new things, and connect with people.

I have been selfishly holding out for the past week on posting a 5 STAR review for Stitch Space because my experience was so great and I don't want the place to be overrun and not receive the same attention and care that I did on my first visit, while simultaneously needing this place to thrive and remain open until I am a bonified seamstress ;) I had the best first sewing machine class ($40) last Friday evening and I can't wait to return. I didn't purchase the package deal up front because I wanted to stop in and sort of feel things out first. I had purchased some fall print fabric that I wanted to make scrunchies with and when I arrived and was told I'd be making a pillow I was not very excited, now having made the pillow (and one scrunchie) I am over the moon with the fact that I, Cands, made a pillow. I had so much fun, and haven't felt so present in a moment or space in as long as I can recall. In this day and age of always being behind a screen or even when I'm gymming, walking, hiking, running I am so in my head. Learning a new skill such as sewing had 100% of my attention. It was incredible! The next project I was told would be a tote bag, and then pajama bottoms. I think I'll sign up and start going each Friday or more often if I can. I already want my own sewing machine and just in the past week I've seen so many dresses, tops, and pants that I've said to myself I can literally make this myself - wishful thinking! Since I've become obsessed with the fabric store it's a great thing that I'm now obsessed with learning how to sew on a machine as well, because what's a girl to do with yards and yards of gorgeous fabric if she can't sew something beautiful with it. And yes, I still want to make a ton more scrunchies but I see now how learning how to first make the pillow taught me so much more than making a scrunchie would. This place is quite honestly my childhood dream, it's so cute and comfortable and safe feeling with fabrics, and yarn, nooks and crannies filled with yarns and thread. It's really just so relaxing and calm, a peaceful neighborhood gem. I haven't been this excited about learning something new in quite awhile. Let's please keep this small business in business. This place is perfect for learning a new skill, they offer tons of different classes at so many different times that work great with any schedule. Perfect for a solo project, girls night, family night, girl scouts, boy scouts, any scouts, date night, you name it! While I was there, they had around 6 young girls and I thought it was amazing that these young girls already know how to make very impressive projects. I was in awww of them the entire evening and thought it was the cutest thing ever. They were all very confident and focused on their projects, this really said a lot to me about the type of teachers the owners have been to them although I noticed the same care and attention while I received my lesson it was so nice to see just how confident one can become in this skill after receiving lessons. I can't wait to return! I walked from home, but there is metered street parking out front. Hope you enjoy as much as I did! read more

My stepdaughter would like to make her own clothing, so my husband and I gifted her classes at StitchSpaceLA for her birthday. My mother-in-law used to teach sewing for a living in Holland, so we were very excited to learn together and share what we've learned with Grandma overseas. I'm beyond impressed with StitchSpaceLA. As a small business owner myself, I have somewhat high expectations for boutique customer service. And I notice when other businesses fall short. Samantha and Amy exceeded my expectations. They returned my phone call right away and answered my questions. They've crafted a series of intro classes that teach the basics of machine sewing and send you home with completed projects to keep you excited to learn more. They are both warm and engaging people, and they foster a supportive and fun learning environment. My stepdaughter and I both loved our first class. And we have the cute pillows to prove it! I really appreciated having some time away from my own business to be creative and spend one-on-one time with my stepdaughter. And she was so excited, she insisted on going shopping for all of our supplies for the intro series right away. The supplies list is easy to follow, which makes the shopping trip fun and stress-free. I loved the stitch space LA staff so much. I came in a beginner, having issues with my machine. I really love StitchSpace and I'm so glad they've opened up near me so recently! Amy, one of the teachers and owners, was so sweet and patient with me. I wanted to start sewing and I have so many big ideas, but I had no idea where to start. Amy listened to what I had in mind and we started cutting and sewing immediately! She even worked with me to change some parts of the pattern I brought in to work with my ideas better. She's amazing!! I honestly can't stress how awesome this place is. Both the owners are super nice, the space is so big and I felt so motivated to create once I stepped inside. I can't wait to keep coming back and learn more! I'm totally hooked. read more

If you're interested in sewing or any other "fiber art" I highly recommend StitchSpace LA! My nine year old has been taking sewing classes from Miss Amy for several years now and, while she's always loved them, her enthusiasm is 10x since Amy opened her new space. I just finished the tote bag today and love it. I may Posh it! Amy and Samantha are just amazing people and teachers, who make you feel extremely comfortable and are very easy to learn from. Not judgmental in any way shape or form...they are both very knowledgeable and fun to learn from. They go out of their way to help you teach you the right way to learn the new skill, which in my case is sewing.
