I wasn't going to even say anything about this, but I recently saw her make a post advertising her services on Facebook and want others to be warned about her to avoid any mistreatment like I experienced. There is some minor TMI, but it's my reality, so it is what it is. SEAMSTRESS KATIE PETERS SEWING SERVICES 31044 Utica Rd, Fraser, MI 48026 DONT WASTE YOUR TIME! I brought in my wedding dress to Katie to have hemmed, the top brought in and a bustle added to the back. When first meeting Katie, she made my Mom and myself feel very uncomfortable as no one was wearing masks inside of her establishment and she does not separate her dogs from where she keeps the dresses/items she is working on. We typically do not have an issue with dogs, but were upset over the fact that my wedding dress was going to be in contact with them daily and in the same room. We decided to still go with Katie because of her wonderful reviews on Google and Facebook. I explained to Katie upon my first visit that I have a genetic condition called, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. Part of my condition causes me to have extremely fragile, loose and sagging skin which, as a woman, I'm sure you can understand what part of my body that mostly affects. When I went in for my fitting, the cups Katie added were much too large, placed much too high and the top hadn't been taken in. The bustle hadn't been installed yet either so I called after we left and asked her to just not add it in to which she called back 2 minutes later and said, "you're not going to cheat on me and take it elsewhere are you?" This in and of itself made me feel very uncomfortable and ultimately became the deciding factor in getting my dress back from her. My Mom went to pick up my dress that morning from her since she was already on her way to my house to watch my Daughter so I could make it to my Specialist appointment. Katie was not there and my Mom spoke to the 2 other girls that were there as they asked for feedback about the situation and they were very, very understanding. Katie still wanted to be paid $50 additional on top of the $50 deposit I had already put down to which we did pay. Once my Mom arrived at my house, she had me try the dress on for her and the original pads for the dress were installed much too high, which was something Katie knew needed to be brought down and the top hadn't been taken in at all. My Mom called Katie on my behalf, so I could make it to my appointment, to speak with her directly and explain to her why we decided to take the dress elsewhere and what our concerns were. This upset Katie and she said, "you better not spend much money on the wedding because she will never be happy and that money you saved can go to her divorce." Not only is this highly unprofessional, but I am disabled and have a genetic condition that causes a multitude of issues. I simply did not want to feel as though I was going to have a top malfunction or that my breasts were going to fall out underneath the cups; which is what they were doing. Katie, at my fitting, also suggested I get sticky cups to hold my breasts up in, but I am allergic to adhesives and the sticky cups don't work for me due to the way my skin is. Overall, she just made it seem as if she didn't actually want to do what was being asked of her. ONE day. ONE very special day, I want to feel beautiful and not have to worry about the things my disability and it's comorbidities cause. The new seamstress I brought my dress to confirmed that the work Katie claimed to have done to the top was not actually done and she had just placed MASSIVE cups in it to make it seem as if she did; which we already knew. I am very disappointed and quite appalled by my experience with Katie. My dress now fits perfectly and I couldn't be any more pleased with the results! She has since gone on to harass me by messaging me from multiple accounts, calling me more than once through Instagram Messenger, lied and said I was unable to afford my alterations, sent people to harass me, wished violence on myself/children and wished cancer on myself as well. I hope, throughout all of this, that she treats future clients better, does the work she is asked of, listens to her customers and overall heals from whatever is hurting her so deeply so these things don't happen again.

Let me start by saying I love my wedding dress, and I want to give Freda a better review because…read moreshe was very kind and sweet, but unfortunately there were several things during my experience that are preventing me from doing so. I was recommended to Freda by my sister-in-law. At the 1st appointment I requested to add fabric underneath the top - it was see-through and I didn't want so much of my skin to show. Freda recommended against this and instead suggested I find shapewear that could help with coverage. Services we decided on were: hem, bustle, taken-in, replacing built-in cups, shortening the off-the-shoulder sleeves, and securing the buttons on the back - they were loose and even 1 fell off. Freda said she would have everything but the hem completed by the 2nd fitting. She broke down the price for each component and I paid the deposit. At the end she asked that I call a day before my next appointment to remind her, which I thought was a bit odd since I watched her write it in her calendar. Between the 1st and 2nd fittings I decided against altering the sleeves, so I contacted Freda to remove this. Also, in this time between appointments, I'd searched for shapewear per her recommendation and came up empty - I could not find anything that would work with the low plunge and lack of sleeves. 2nd fitting: the only part of the dress completed was the bustle - none of the other things she promised to have done at this point. I told Freda that I had searched for shapewear and could not find any and asked again to add fabric underneath. Freda declined this request again and said it's because "it would make the dress tighter". I thought this was odd because 1) she hadn't taken it in yet and there was plenty of room to work with and 2) shapewear would also make the dress tighter. At that point I realized I was going to feel more exposed than I was comfortable with on my wedding day. When I was getting measured for the hem, we had issues with me stepping on the bottom and Freda seemed to get frustrated and took all the pins out and started cutting off the bottom while I was in it. This startled me and I had to be very still so that it was cut evenly. She kept making comments about "once it's cut it can't be made longer" and this was making me very nervous. At the end of the 2nd fitting, Freda reminded me of the balance, but it still reflected the total with sleeve shortening so I had to remind her to remove that. She again asked me to call before the next appointment. 3rd fitting: I noticed that 2 buttons on the back were super close together - the 1 that had fallen off at the 1st fitting was not evenly spaced. When I put my dress on, I saw the hem on the first few layers was a good inch or more off the floor and could see the underneath layers. When doing up the buttons one fell off (not the one that had been re-attached) and there were others that were very loose. Then, I saw a very noticeable dimple/dent above one of the cups -we agreed to remove and replace them again. When they were removed, Freda said she thought it looked better without any cups. Reminder - the entire upper part of my dress was SEE THROUGH, I could clearly see the nipple cover I was wearing! I said absolutely not! It seemed like she didn't want to do more work, but obliged and fit me for 2 more cups. I waited about 20-30 minutes while she fixed the cups and (finally) secured all the buttons. If everything that was completed as promised prior to my 2nd fitting, this issue could have been avoided during the end of my last fitting. Lastly, Freda said because of the fabric I wouldn't have to steam my dress again before wedding day which I was excited about, but this ended up being untrue. The day before my wedding day, I noticed some wrinkles and decided to do some touching-up with the steamer. I'm glad I did because once I started, I noticed a LOT more wrinkles as well as some hair/debris stuck between the layers. On wedding day, once my dress was on, we noticed multiple stray strings coming off the details - one of my bridesmaids cut them all off. Then at the end of the night when I was taking my dress off, one of the buttons came off easily again. Overall, my take-away is that Freda is a very busy, tired and likely burned-out business owner. She shared on multiple occasions that she is always booked and hasn't had any breaks. I think that due to this she is missing key details and does not want to do more work for each item than the bare minimum. I did research online and everything I found supported my assumption that a seamstress is responsible for working with their customer's desired vision, and that adding fabric underneath garments is both common and simple. Additionally, the sister-in-law who recommended me has also revisited Freda and reported noticing a clear difference in workmanship and attitude. The pictures included show the overall dress, the difference in lengths in the layers, and the dent in the cup prior to fixing.

Very unfortunate encounter this afternoon when picking up a varsity jacket which was having an…read moreadditional sport added to the back. The original work on this jacket by this business was Grade-A so we returned for an update to have "Volleyball" added underneath an existing "Softball".... The existing "Softball" embroidery was in a 2.5 inch high font. What we picked up was "Volleyball" in a 2.25 inch font, and the letters from the new embroidery were overlapping the existing. When this unacceptable condition was pointed out, a bizarre exchange of not accepting fault started. * When asked for a ruler or tape measure to point this out, the owner refused. Other owner suggested "measure it at home". * When asked about the layout and 'kerning' the owner claimed to not be aware of the term. Suspicious for an embroiderer working with letters and layouts on a daily basis. * When pointing out the overlapping stitching, the owner suggested we should have had both sports put on at the same time, apparently unaware that perhaps a student may earn a varsity letter in a later year than the original sport that was embroidered prior. * It was suggested by the owner that because of the ascending and descending parts of the font there were no options other than overlap. We were never informed that this could be a problem beforehand and would have appreciated a call to at least discuss this issue before the deed was done. We've also seen plenty of jackets with multiple sports that don't seem to have this problem, and they too have names with letters that have ascenders and descenders. * When we insisted that this needs to be remedied because it was unacceptable, the owner remarked "get out of my store, I'm too busy and have no time to talk to you anymore". What sort of customer service is this? Bizarre. Buyer beware. See for yourself.
