The academy's structured approach--requiring specific skills to be mastered at each stage--has clearly paid off. She's athletic and attentive, and the instructors have done a fantastic job channeling those strengths into steady improvement. Each level seems to take her about 5-6 weeks to complete, which speaks volumes about both her effort and the academy's teaching methods. With only two levels left after Manta Rays, she's well on her way to being ready for our HOA's competitive summer swim team, which runs six intense weeks with six tournaments. The difference in her confidence and ability in the water is easy to see. Honestly, I may not be able to swim away from her when she chases me in the pool next summer! Watching her master the different strokes has been exciting, and I'm grateful for the academy's clear progression system and supportive environment. Upon arrival, I was asked whether the private instructor had reached out to confirm the lesson. I explained that they had not and even asked whether that was part of their normal protocol. I was told that it was not. Based on that information, I proceeded to get my child changed and prepared for the lesson. After my child was changed and ready, I was then informed that the instructor had to leave due to an emergency. While I completely understand that emergencies happen, the issue was the lack of communication. I should have been notified before driving 45 minutes to the facility and getting my child ready for a lesson that was ultimately canceled. What was even more disappointing was that there was no follow-up communication or effort to address the inconvenience after the canceled lesson. The entire experience was extremely unprofessional and a complete waste of my time. I would not recommend this location. If you value your time and expect basic communication and professionalism, I would strongly suggest going elsewhere.

The environment is welcoming for a little one who is easily stressed. We have Coach John, who I can't say enough positive things about, his patience soars to the sky. My son has had many whining episodes with tears and purely wanting to quit but Coach John never gives up. He has a way with children to make them excited about learning. He has gained my son's trust and always finds a way to make him successful. There is nothing more rewarding as a parent watching my son get out of the water beaming with pride because he accomplished a skill that he thought was unobtainable. I was surprised to read the post on here describing a terrible trip to Crystal River, Florida. We were on the same trip and had a completely opposite experience. We had a memorable and fantastic time. I appreciated the time that Coach John and the owners of Sharkie's prepared us with a well thought out itinerary and for insuring that we had all the equipment necessary. On the day of each activity, I knew exactly where to go and never had to run out to get something we forgot to bring. The particular weekend we visited was the annual Manatee festival so the area was quite busy. I appreciated the block of rooms set aside for us so I didn't have to worry about hotels being full. Coach John was thorough to explain everything to be expected that our son didn't shed a single tear out of fear. His expertise and passion for scuba has made my husband and son excited to participate in the sport. I always say, we are grooming the next Jacques Cousteau. Sharkie's has taught my son valuable life lessons to enjoy and respect the water safely. I can't say enough about this facility, the staff, and the owners. They are such a great part of our community.

When we arrived (my 10 yo granddaughter & I), we went to a lap lane - I grabbed some flippers & when I returned she had jumped into the lane in front of us. When I asked her to move over to share she said "I'm not swimming with a man." So I asked my granddaughter to move into another lane & I would share with Ellen. She tried to bully me & say she wouldn't share the lane. I talked to staff who explained to her that the rules ARE to share if crowded. Other guests said she regularly bullies them. This behavior is absolutely unacceptable. Thanks to staff for trying to address it (she moved over but pushed someone out of their lane) - but it seems a Manager needs to stop her intimidating other guests. Thanks!

The woman overseeing the party area was incredibly rude and confrontational with us throughout the party. Our guests obviously didn't all arrive at the exact same time, so some kids were swimming while others were getting food. We made sure the kids dried off before coming into the eating area, but she repeatedly became upset with us and insisted that the children needed to either ALL be swimming or ALL be eating and could not go back and forth between the pool and party area. It made what should have been a fun, relaxed birthday party feel stressful from the beginning. The most upsetting part involved one of our 11-year-old guests, who wears pants while swimming for religious reasons. She made him get out of the pool because his pants had pockets and told us they were a safety concern because they could "weigh his legs down." We explained that this is how he regularly swims, that he was comfortable and capable in the water, and that this attire was important to him. Instead of handling the situation discreetly and respectfully, it turned into roughly 15 minutes of back and forth while this poor child stood there embarrassed and uncomfortable. My daughter became so upset seeing her friend excluded from her birthday party that she started crying because she felt terrible that he couldn't participate. We eventually got the situation resolved and he was allowed back in, but by then the damage was done. A child should never be made to feel singled out or embarrassed like that, especially over something connected to his religious practices. The entire experience was so uncomfortable that we actually chose to leave before our reserved party time was even over because we were simply done dealing with the hostility. I completely understand that a public pool needs rules, especially when it comes to safety. What I do not understand is why those rules couldn't have been communicated to us respectfully, reasonably, and with some compassion, especially when dealing with children. We came here to celebrate our kids' birthdays and make happy memories with their friends. Instead, we spent a large portion of the party feeling like we were being scolded and monitored, and one of our young guests was made to feel embarrassed and singled out. We will not be returning, and I would strongly encourage other parents considering a birthday party here to ask very specific questions about their party and swim policies before booking.

Wow! I learned to swim in a month!!!…read more Learning how to swim has been on my bucket list for many years. As a grown adult with friends who like water sports and going to the beach, not knowing how to swim has always been socially awkward. I was also so nervous when I took my child to the pool that I really didn't enjoy it. I really wanted to learn to swim and group lessons did not work with my schedule. I was able to commit 4 weeks to learning how to swim and took three sets of private lessons during this time. Leslie was super flexible with the time and days of my private lessons. Leslie has a natural gift to teach people how to swim. I was so nervous about putting my face in the water and would get super anxious. Leslie took her time with my breathing while still moving forward with other elements of learning how to swim. While I still have a ways to go to be a strong swimmer, the fact that I can even get in an Olympic pool without a flotation device or flippers and actually move my way through the water...with my face in the water...is pretty awesome. I look forward to continuing occasional lessons so that I can get even better.
